Summary: Animal Farm is a story about animals who overthrow their human Farmer, Mr. Jones, due to his negligence and establish the 'new farm', Animal Farm. The animals are now in charge, governed by Animalism, which has established a set of seven commandments that grant equality and freedom for all animals. "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." (Orwell 134) The pigs, specifically Nepolian and Snowball, begin to take over, and they are in charge of the new society formed. Snowball and Nepolian often disagree, and Snowball is banished. Nepolian begins exploiting all of the other animals and restricting their resources. Because of this, the pigs start to adapt human qualities and move into the farmhouse. At the end of the Novel, the society is even more oppressive than when the humans governed the farm, and the pigs are now indistinguishable from the human workers and rulers. "The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which." (Orwell 141) The novel reflects the Russian Revolution throughout the book.

Theme: Power and Corruption

Explanation: Throughout the Novel, the pigs slowly start to exploit the other animals and gain power. Slowly, throughout the book, the commandments are being altered and twisted. "No animal shall kill any other animal without cause." (Orwell 91) Due to the power Nepolian has, he is becoming corrupt and corrupting the society around him. The pigs are using propaganda and fear to maintain control, and this leads to the pigs being indistinguishable from the humans. Today, we receive much misinformation and are faced with propaganda daily, especially on and through social media.

Textual Evidence: "The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others."

The book Fahrenheit 451 follows Guy Montag, a fireman who burns books and sets fire to them instead of ridding of fires. Montag's society is oppressive and very controlled. He starts to question society and the rules shortly after meeting Clarrise. At first, she is very confused and asks confusing questions. Montag begins to question is he is really happy. He is not happy. "He was not happy." (Bradbury 10) He comes home to see his wife overdosing on sleeping pills. She is so unfazed that Montag sees her as sleeping even when she is awake. This shows how dormant their society is. He then begins to question deeper things after seeing a woman want to rather die than have her books taken. He then takes a book home. Beatty, the captain of the firemen, comes to Montag and gives him a speech to deter him from reading, but it makes Montag want to read even more. Mildred tells on him, and he is ordered to burn his house. He happily does, after this, he runs away, finds a man named Granger, and they start a new life and society. Their society was very controlled, and the top people wanted power, much like animal farm.

This song is heard and sung many times throughout the book. This song represents them wanting to create a freer and independant society; however, we see as the book progresses how the society becomes the opposite of that. This song was used as the anthem for rebellion during the beginning of the book, and it sets clear expectations for the rebellion that are soon demolished.

Both books focus on control and authoritarianism; however, Animal Farm focuses more on Revolution, and Fahrenheit 451 focuses more on censorship and media consumption. Both books contain a controlled society and many symbols. In Animal Farm, the pigs use propaganda and manipulation to gain followers and create their own individual society, and they promise them a better life by following them. Fahrenheit focuses on how a society needs leadership and rules because we can not be independent without falling apart. In both books, some characters gain consciousness and realize the truth. Montags rebellion was about gaining individual freedom and beliefs, unlike Animal farm. The animals in Animal Farm carried out a failed resistance and ended up worse than they were before. Both books show how power corrupts societies under given circumstances.
