The Five Pillars of Islam are basic acts of worship that the Qur'an commands Muslims to take part in. The first Pillar of Islam is called shahadah, the declaration of faith. To show belief in the Islam religion, Muslims make a statement that shows they believe in monotheism, which means one god, and identifies Muhammad as G-d's messenger. The second Pillar is salat, which is daily ritual prayer. Muslims are called to prayer five times a day: at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and night fall. The third Pillar is zakat, which is charity. The teachings of Islam say that Muslims must share ar least 2.5% of their wealth each year. Siyam is the fourth Pillar of Islam. The Qur'an instructs Muslims to from dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadan, which is the month where the message from G-d was first revealed to Muhamed. The last Pillar of Islam is hajj, and is expected to be performed at least once in a lifetime. Hajj is when Muslims travel to Makka to perform rituals to follow in the footsteps of Abraham and Muhamed.

Muslim know what to do by reading the Qur'an and Sunnah. Sunnah means practice in Arabic. The Sunnah tells more about how to live and gives details, while the Qur'an only gives general commands. Some
of the things Muslims are told to do is never leave a guest hungry, to show them how important hospitality is. Also, he tells them to honor their parents, most importantly mothers. One more is that they should take care of all living things, so God would be nice to them. Some other things that they believe in, same as Jews and Christians, are that they should be kind to their neighbors, work for justice, and forgive others. One more thing they believe is that all people are created equal in God's eyes.
