- They are bossing around with their maids.
- White people are afraid of being contaminated by the black peoples "deceases" 
Where the maids uses the toilet in the house, and then hilly gets very mad and says something about that it could contaminate her daughter and therefor she is building a toilet only for the black people/Maid. - They are treating them as animals and worthless.

Also hilly won't do any thing to anybody, unless it has a benefit to her self. She thinks only about her benefit.
-  She is aggressive, emotionless and a cold hearted woman. She does not have sympathy to other people. When she fired her maid, because she used her toilet.  --she did not take any consideration for Elizabeth her friend, When she fired Abilleen. Abilleen was Elizabeth's maid. Her friend wanted to keep the maid, but she insisted at fire her and accused her of stealing the silver ware. 
-Hilly is a manipulating and  controlling freak. She did not give a chance for Elizabeth to make a decision to keep or fire her maid.
- Hilly also send her mum to the Retirement Home after the incident with the chocolate pie. It was very easy for her to send her mother to Retirement Home.
- Hilly is jealous of Celia, because she thinks, that Celia cheated with her ex-boyfriend. 
-Hilly is racist, because she looks down to black people.

Skeeter is a non-typical upper-class woman. She starts showing sympathy towards the maids and starts talking to the help – Skeeter asks Abileen nicely for help with some letters. 

Skeeter later visits Abileen, where she starts writing her book. (Abileen is kind of stunned about the visit -and explains that is the first time she has had a white person in her house). 

When Constantine gets fired, Skeeter gets emotional. Skeeter considers Constantine her "other mother". When Skeeter finds out that her mother has fired Constantine she says "You broke her heart" (= dies).

Skeeter is friendly towards the help – she offers to drive someone home. 

She donates the money she earns from the book to them. 

 

Skeeter wants to tell the true story about how black woman is treated – She wants to get the story out there and if some kind of a riot starts – lives could change.

- Married to Johnny (Hilly's ex)
- Married into the "upper-class", because she got pregnant. She lost the child (3 children) 
- Celia and Hilly has a falling out, because Johnny is Hilly's ex.
- She does not want to be an "upper-class wife".
- Happy about her first maid Minny.
- She welcomes "the help" as equals. She wants to eat with Minny in the kitchen, and help her cook. 
- She doesn't like to be in the upper-class because it's lonely and she is an outcast. 
- The other upper-class women thinks that Celia is white trash.
- Very positive and happy
-  She had a very scandalous dress on at the benefit (compared to the other women).
- She is very caring about other people.
- She is very grateful to have Minny in her life.

They built a separate toilet for the maid Aibileen Clark relating to the Jim Crow Laws, because of "the coloured situation" and "we have to protect our children.

 Skeeter borrows the "Jim Crow Law" at the library and she notices that it's not allowed to write about black peoples' rights.
