1.Stevenson sees himself in John. He sees how the town in John's story put hope in him and Stevenson sees this in himself like how Walter's family puts hope in him. The John story says that the community put everything they had into John and sent him to school in hopes that he can better their town when he comes back. Just like John, loved one's of Walter has put their hopes into Stevenson to bring justice to Walter's case.
2. I felt hopeless when I saw the black lives matter protest and how violent it was getting. It broken my heart when I read that the police were shooting rubber bullets and tear gas at the people who were protesting. What they were protesting for made perfect sense, what they were standing up for, was the right thing to stand up for. So it doesn't make sense to me why it was met with hatred. I hope that the people will vote for people who stand up for equality and justice. The people the represent us, need to do what is right, and they only way that will happen is if we vote for those who believe in (like I said) justice and equality.

1.I think he identifies with it since he is up against nearly an entire town with a judge who has his own bias against the defendant with no evidence. In the short story john and the community are ignored and walked over similar to Walters family being ignored when they say Walter was at the fish fry and has an alibi.
2.Not exactly hopeless but there have definitely been some times where I've questioned our existence and if we are doomed to repeat our failures. In history there have been much death and pain all for unnecessary reasons and the fact that this has happened multiple times makes me think that we don't learn from mistakes the definition of insanity is repeating the same action and expecting a different result. Also whenever I hear about a mass shooting or people dying when they shouldn't makes me question the world. I think the biggest thing we can do is just be there. Help those who needed it and be aware of those who wont ask for help but need it.

1. I think that Stevenson identifies with this story because he is basically John right now, he is the hope for the community of people of color. Everyone is counting on him to get Walter out, just like the people were counting on John to graduate and for him to be able to bring education to his community. Also, I think he feels the same pressure that John did, because everyone is counting on him to make justice for their community.
2. The state of the world has made me feel not only hopeless but disappointed. A few things that have made me feel this way are for example, the black lives matter movement, just the fact that people of color still have to stand up for their rights and to be treated like anybody else in this world is very upsetting to me. Also, the discrimination that transgender people have been facing lately has been really sad to see because they are just trying to live their lives as who they are and people discriminate them for that. Everyone deserves the same treatment of respect because we are all human beings at the end of the day. I think that the only way that we can try to change this is by becoming more educated on these subjects, also by not being so ignorant, selfish, because a lot of people only worry about what's going on with them and not worry about how other people are being affected by all of this. Discrimination and racism are two things that are going to be hard to get rid of because some people were raised by seeing this as normal, but all we can try to do is get more educated and aware about the problems that other people are facing so we can try to make a difference.

1. i feel like he relates to the story because he's experienced similar injustices and has been fighting and bringing hope into Walters case same way john is bring hope to his town
2. Yes, honestly a lot of things have made me feel hopeless these few years. watching Australia and the Cali fires and all types of climate change issues and we cant help to stop this by being more aware to the harm we cause with our selfish disposing . The stop Asian hate movement not to mention right after the black lives matter movement. I think it will be hard to get the racism out of people who grew up when it was seen as normal. but for new generations we need to work on teaching Diversity in love and not teach our children to be so hateful to people who arent even bothering them

I think he identifies with this story because he knows all about how racist the justice system can be and knowing that even though it was so long ago it's still the same way at this point in time.

2.I don't feel hopeless about the way the world is because i know it can be better but it does suck right now. All the protests are good but sometimes it gets violent and either side uses what the others did against them making it that much harder to move on. The hope is knowing that if you've come this far with this much improvement that means it's not impossible and worth fighting for.

1. Stevenson identifies with the story because he is fighting against the injustice, oppression of the systemic power from the judge and bringing hope for the defendants and their families just like how John is trying to create a brighter future for his black community.
2. I don't feel hopeless in the state of the world but multiple times find myself asking the question “What’s the point of doing this”. People fight so much for equality and justice, lots of sacrifices have been made to pay the price of justice to just once again repeat our errors. We all know prejudice is a matter of attitude and discrimination is a matter of action. They have been formed by history and going on for centuries. This is not something that can be changed by today or tomorrow but for a better future we can all live with, we can change this by having a better education on racism, discrimination. Moreover, with all things that happened last year, we have seen the consequences to raise awareness and showed the impact with many movements, actions to support and to send help to the community through social media and other platforms which reminds us that there’s always somebody there for you.
