The website, stemteachingtools.org, is loaded with numerous resources on science instruction as well as guide teachers on teaching math, engineering and technology. There are multiple tools in the website that focus on a specific tool to aid in teaching STEM. There are also different types of PD videos that will guide teachers on what to do to solve a specific issue with teaching STEM. One article I read is titled, “How Can I Get My Students to Learn Science by Productively Talking with Each Other?” In this article, teachers learn the importance of communicating and talking to solve problems instead of just presenting to share information. Suggestions are provided to keep students engaged while encouraging scientific talk as classroom norms are developed and practiced.

Placed Based Learning is an amazing way to teach STEM to students by allowing students to dive deeper into local history, environment, culture and the local economy. As students work on stem challenges that involve their community, they become more aware of their surroundings and have more of a connection when finding solutions to local problems. There are several links in edutopia that guide teachers in creating outdoor spaces for learning to take place. I would like to use this resource to reach out to some social studies teachers in my area to do some team planning and in class field trips.

I would like to incorporate the STEM GEM Club into our West GYSTC Summer Camp schedule.

I will incorporate that into my Vertical Unit next semester.

Because my vertical assignment is on electricity and magnetism, I filtered the simulations to show only electricity, magnets and Circuits. I found 25 results and plan to share the charges and Fields simulation to show the magnetic and electric fields simulation to show the forces around the objects. https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulations/charges-and-fields

I am working on a vertical alignment project with a focus on electricity and magnetism. I searched in teachengineering.org by typing in electricity and magnetism in the search box and checked the curriculum type I wanted. I found multiple lessons grade level appropriate as well as a full unit. I plan to use the “What Is Electricity?” lesson for grade level 5 for my next electricity in class field trip.
