The lesson is easy to learn as some of it was already discussed last semester, and it is also very informative, and I learned a lot about genetics. Also, the lesson is interesting as it's about genes and heredity.

The lesson is taught to us by Sir Isaias Villanueva very well. He is a great teacher as the lessons are well explained and he makes it easy for us to understand. In short, the way Sir Isaias teaches is effective.

History of Genetics

I was able to learn the history of genetics. I learned about different theories, and one of them is the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, which is a theory by Charles Darwin (1859). He proposed a different mechanism of inheritance, which is natural selection. Whereas natural selection is the adaptation and change of populations of living organisms. Organisms that are better adapted to their surroundings have a higher chance of surviving and passing on the genes that helped them succeed.

Genetic Interactions

I also learned about gene interactions, which are the different expressions of genes due to different interplays between genes. The interesting part for me is the lesson about the different allelic interactions, as it is kind of easy to learn since I was also able to learn that during my junior high school year, as well as the Punnett square. Genetic interaction is important as it is where we can understand the structure and function of genetic pathways.

I was able to learn again about the structure of DNA as it was discussed last semester, and my knowledge of it has been refreshed because of the lesson. DNA is found in the nucleus of cells, and DNA is made up of a series of monomers called nucleotides. I was also able to review the nitrogenous bases, which are Adenine, Guanine, Thymine, and Cytosine, wherein Adenine must pair with Thymine, and Guanine must pair with Cytosine.

DNA Replication

I was able to learn the process of DNA replication, which is the process of making two identical copies of DNA from the original DNA molecules. I was able to learn the three major processes of DNA replication, which are: first is the opening of the double helix and the separation of the DNA strands; second is the priming of the template strand; and lastly, is the assembly of the new DNA segments. DNA replication is important because it creates the next copy of DNA that has to go into one of the two daughter cells when a cell divides, and without replication, cell division could not occur.
