We have no choice but to protest. Our method will be that of persuasion, not coercion ... If you protest courageously, but also  with dignity and with Christian love, historians will have to say in the future: a great people lived there, a black people, who injected new meaning and dignity into the veins of civilization. "  The culmination of the movement occurred on August 28, 1963 during the March on Washington when King made his most famous speech "I have a dream ...." ("I have a dream").  In 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.]]> 2020-01-22 15:42:58 UTC https://padlet.com/marioinsogna051/625i4rsq9pa4/wish/434600055 marioinsogna051 https://padlet.com/marioinsogna051/625i4rsq9pa4/wish/434605278 During the years of the struggle, King is arrested several times and many demonstrations organized by him end with violence and mass arrests;  he continues to preach nonviolence despite suffering threats and attacks.In 1966 he moved to Chicago and changed part of his political approach: he declared himself contrary to the Vietnam war and refrained from condemning the violence of extremist organizations, denouncing the conditions of misery and degradation of the metropolitan ghettos, thus coming into direct conflict with  the White House.In April 1968 Luther King went to Memphis to participate in a march in favor of the city scavengers (black and white), who were on strike.  While he was talking on the veranda of the hotel with his collaborators, a few rifle shots were fired from the house opposite: King fell on the railing, a few minutes later he was dead.  Taking advantage of the panic moments that followed, the killer moved away undisturbed.  It was nineteen on April 4.  The killer was arrested in London about two months later, his name was James Earl Ray, but revealed that he had not been King's killer;  rather, he claimed to know who the real culprit was.  Name he could never make because he was stabbed the following night in the cell in which he was locked up.
