When I began to start doing my daily walk a couple of weeks ago, there were already some daffodils in full bloom by the Charles River. Within the past two weeks, the weather has been all over the place, yet the daffodils are still going strong. I find this to be kind of ironic. Something like flowers, seen as so fragile, flourishing, even in harsh times, while we as humans are so deeply struggling right now.

We all, somehow or another, have had to adjust our way of living, finding a "new normal". For me, that's having a very structured schedule, but rarely leaving my house. I normally spend as little time in my house as possible because to be honest, the energy drives me insane. So when I go out on my walks (which are always between 11 and 12) I have started to become more and more familiar with my path. I've already talked about the daffodils, although I do continue to write about them everyday in my journal, but my newer discovery is this painted birdhouse. I had never noticed it before, but now I intentionally observe it blow in the wind every single day. It's child like (probably because a child painted it) painting design brings me a sense of comfort.

There were a bunch of people hanging out, some working out on the fields, playing soccer, but for the first time, I noticed the distance in between people, and groups of people. The space that was intentionally created. There were no pickup soccer games, no practices, only small groups of people, spaced out from each other. Being so conscious about that space was something I hadn't really experienced before.

I couldn't focus at all. So, I decided to (kind of) clear off my desk that I hadn't sat at in at least 7 years. It is still partially covered with a bunch of random crap from all different times in my life (including a whoopie cushion from god knows when), but now there is room for a computer and my breakfast.

It was a beautiful day. The parts where no one else was around, it felt absolutely normal, however when we did occasionally run into people on the trails, navigating space was an incredibly weird experience. Everyone would immediately put a mask on and move to the side when they saw other people.

I went on a short hike with my dad the other day at Tippling Rock, a hill in Sudbury with a beautiful peak. When we made it up there, we soaked in some sun and talked for awhile. As he looked around at the budding trees and green surroundings, he started a conversation about how the world does not exist because of us or for us. We are just a small part of it. Yesterday, with the wonderful weather, I was thinking about this a lot. It felt like summer. Everything in life feels so still, yet the seasons are changing, the earth is doing its thing as it always does, even if we, as humans, are greatly adjusting our lives. Yesterday's light sparked inspiration for a series of self portraits.
