This questioning progresses into writing in his diary. At first, it is pointless and he doesn't know what he is writing about. As well as recognizing that the proles are the only hope “If there is hope it lies in the proles.” they just need to become conscious
4. He gains the understanding that true freedom is freedom of thought “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”
5. He meets Julia, sex as a political act
6. He tries to join Goldstein. He reads the book (but gets arrested after 2 chapters)
7.
