Since they were fighting on their home ground and knew their land well, they were more comfortable using a risky strategy.

That's what it was for many Americans, especially towards the beginning of the war. It was for the containment of the pinkos, and the guarantee of Vietnamese democracy. I'd like to learn about anti-war protesting in more detail. The counterculture movement during the 60s and 70s is very interesting and covers many broad topics including the Vietnam War.

The Vietminh were the original patriot force standing behind Ho Chi Minh, which later evolved into the Viet Cong, the patriot force fighting Diem. Other reoccurring terms are the names of the two Vietnamese leaders, Ho Chi Minh (communism) and Diem (democracy/Christianity), and the names of the various American presidents involved in the war, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, as well as the US military advisor, McNamara. The terms "Tet Offensive" and "Saigon" also reoccur, as Saigon was an important government installation in South Vietnam, which the Viet Cong launched a major offensive against during the Vietnamese holiday Tet, which is why it has become known as the Tet Offensive.

Something I would be interested in learning more about is the home front during the Vietnam war, more specifically, the peace protests.

From the start of the 1950s, the US intervened in numerous wars to prevent the spread of communism. This idea of communistic expansion became known as the Domino Theory.  As a result, was Us involvement necessary? According to the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, it was certainly vital in Johnson's eyes.

I would like know more about the Hardships that the North and South Vietnamese needed to face from the war. This may include the effects of bombings, search and destroy tactics, and expelled chemicals.

The U.S. intervened in the war in Vietnam because of the threat of the spread of Communism. The Viet Cong was formed to fight against Diem's forces and unite North and South Vietnam under Communist rule. Guerrilla warfare was the military strategy used by the Viet Cong.

I would be interested in learning more about how the Vietnamese peasants were affected by the United States through things like chemicals being sprayed on their crops and bombing raids destroying their homes and killing their families.

The United State's involvement in the Vietnam War was due to the oppressive nature of Diem's dictatorship and the spread of communism throughout this region. Kennedy, however still supported Diem whose value's disagreed with the U.S. Kennedy's justified his support for Diem through his fear of other nations falling at the hands of communism.

The whole point of the war from an American's point of view was to stop the spread of communism thoughout Asia. Peasants in Vietnam were the ones being caught in the crossfire. On one hand, if they were suspected of helping US troops, they would be severely punished. On the other, American bombing missions often destroyed their homes and even killed friends and family. AS the war grew old, and America threw more soldiers and materials into the fire, the citizens back home grew less and less supportive of the war effort. I large antiwar movement arose. This ultimately cause the US to pull out of the conflict.

I would like to know more about the side effects of Agent Orange. I understand the US used it to destroy wildlife to give the Vietcong less places to hide and ambush troops, but what effects did this have on everyone involved? The American soldiers, the Vietcong, and the citizens? What did this substance do to them?

Guerrilla warfare is the tactic that was used by the Viet Cong to fight the United States. They would hide and ambush our troops in order to have the element of surprise when fighting. Communism was one of the main reasons the United States even entered the war. We were nervous about the spreading of it and felt we needed to step in. The peasants of Vietnam were treated poorly and many were killed due to the effects of the war.
Something I'd be interested to learn more about would be the effects of all the chemicals the United States used against the Viet Cong that also ultimately affected anyone who was living in the area, like Napalm and Agent Orange.

The U.S would rather support Diem, a vicious totalitarian dictator, than allow Vietnam to become a Communist government. One topic that was interesting was the fact that people were forced to fight. American men, averaging at 22, were drafted into the conflict, and Vietnamese peasants were forced to assist the Vietcong. One interesting thing that I would like to learn more about is the My Lai Massacre.
