Since Sir Zainureen has explained briefly on the assessments, the second class continues with a thorough explanation regarding lesson plans. First, sir shows examples of lesson plans that have been done by previous students while explaining in depth on the elements necessarily to be included. Then, he explains why it is important and goes through the format of the lesson plan so we will have a clearer idea regarding the format. Next, sir explains one by one on the elements in the lesson plan including what is needed in learning outcomes, content, language skills (listening reading writing speaking), values, and everything up until extended works. Every single explanation on each part was elucidated very nicely and it helps a lot as it gives a clear image on what I need to do later for the assessments. Only then, sir asked us to proceed with our lesson plan for group mini-teaching. Apart from that, I must say that it is such a great start for us since we have been given detailed instructions on what needs to be done so we will not get lost along the way. Plus, Sir Zainureen has already prepared us with the materials, recordings, and past year frequently asked questions so we can easily refer to that material at any time.

This session is the continuation from the second class regarding Lesson Plan since we only have covered until Content Development. So, for this class, Sir Zainureen further explained the other elements in the Lesson Plan which are conclusion, extended work and Lesson evaluation. I have learned a lot during this session as I just know that for the conclusion, the students are the ones who need to reemphasize the lesson on that day, instead of the teachers. The teacher must act as a prompter to make them speak out if they did not have a clear understanding of any parts of the lesson. Only then, the teacher will give some reexplanation or conclusion to make them clearer. As for the extended work and lesson evaluation part, it was the same as what I already learned so I don't really have any problems with it except that I will become more aware of that part and will apply the knowledge that I got from this session in the future. Once we are done with the lesson plan, Sir Zainureen continues to teach about the nature and purpose of writing, what are the aspects of writing, the purpose, audience, function and more. Besides, we also learned about the approaches to writing, the types of students, their focus and so on. This is among the most important parts that we need to know before we can actually teach the students on how to write effectively. We need to know the root so we would be able to tackle them from scratch.

We briefly discussed the lesson plan since there are lots of improvements needed to be done with the lesson plan. Next, we go into the lesson for that day which is “Lesson Planning”. There are four important elements of Lesson Planning that we have learned in depth that day including duration, content, instructional aids and learning outcomes. For the duration, we are advised to adhere to the time and plan the lesson very carefully so we get to cover what we have to teach. Sir Zainureen also focused on the contents or linguistic aspects such as vocabulary, sound system, grammar and writing genre. Thus, I am aware that the English language covers so many aspects other than writing that I need to cover. That was why, planning very well so the objectives of the learning can be achieved. Sir Zainureen also tells us about the source of the materials, such as textbooks which needed very minimal modification rather than the other sources. But, we also need to adhere to the school’s instructions and recommendations. The next point is regarding Learning outcomes. Previously, I already knew what the elements that need to be included in the LO. However, Sir Zainureen has made it more clearer by explaining the ABCD elements which are Audience, Behavior, Condition and Degree. These information are really helpful as guidelines for me before planning for learning outcomes in the near future. Sir Zainureen has explained very explicitly what are the do’s and don'ts so we would not repeat the same trivial mistakes again.

From this session, I learned about the controlled to free approach. Sir explained that we need to be more alert and careful with the students and (their proficiency needs). Besides, Sir Zainureen also emphasized on general principles to teaching writing which are free writing approach, communicative approach and process approach. The most important thing to know about process approach is that writing involves so many stages and it requires a constructive plan and need to generate the ideas before writing by doing mindmapping, outlining or diagramming. After that, we need to know how to draw connection between the idea. Next is I learned about the differences between product and process approach. Sir Zainureen taught us on how to choose the appropriate approach to teach the students by guiding us to take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of the two approaches with a very detailed explanation.

I learned the ways to teach the students the process of these writings effectively since writing takes time and is a lengthy process so we need to help guide them in any way we could. We need to tell them the proper ways on how to write a good summary such as be very objective, remove the unnecessary points to make it becomes more concise.

After that, they explained why is it important to use idioms in our writings and how to include idioms in the writings. Besides, they also share some crucial tips on how to incorporate the idioms. Last but not least, they also taught us how to make narrative essays more interesting, including idioms, which is one of the elements that will make the writing more meaningful. For me, their set induction was very engaging where they shows a set of emoticons that represents the idioms and we have to think and brainstorm our minds for that! Students will surely love something like this to be incorporated in their lesson.

Their set induction was interesting and I love the way they show the same set of photos to indicate the conjunction of "and" and two different pictures to show two different ideas which is "but". Their ways of conveying the teaching of conjunction and how to apply them in a biographical essay were good and easy to grasp for Form 1 students. Overall, it can be seen that their lesson was simple and suitable for Form 1 students.

This week's mini teaching goes to Aqilah, Irfan, and Jalil's group. They started their teaching by showing us a video on Youtube regarding how people before us communicate. Aqilah further elaborates on how people use the telegraph, and send letters through pigeons. I learned a lot of new ways on how they actually communicate. They are also using pony express (using horses to deliver letters and newspapers). The induction was interesting as it makes us think and brainstorm our minds into the lesson. They started the lesson after the induction by introducing the format of informal letters. Based on the feedback given to my group before, it is best to let students explore the essay first before we actually show them the formats. Nevertheless, their teaching was interesting and very informative except it was too teacher-centered as the teacher talked too much. The criteria given for each information should be included in the body paragraph also sufficient to make the students understand what they should think of when they are about to write letters informally to their family, friends, or acquaintances. Overall, their mini-teaching was informative and easy to grasp.
