Light and heat travel from the sun to the earth in eight minutes. This is super crazy because earth is 150 million miles away! Lightbulbs and stars are very similiar when it comes to shining. Stars and light bulbs alike can have different brightnesses. But if a star is farther away, and shines brighter like Betelgeuse than the sun you can not see it like you can see the sun even though the sun is smaller and not as bright. Lastly luminous means that a star is shining or letting of light like the sun. THe sun is luminescent.

Those videos amazed me! who knew light could travel so fast with such a great distance, I didn't.
Betelgeuse is so much bigger but sun is closer, Betelgeuse must be REALLY far away. the brightness and heat and distance are all really important factors in apparent and true brightness. if Betelgeuse was one of the stars at night I would never think it was 400 times bigger than Sol. I wonder what earth would feel like if Betelgeuse was our star, would it all be summer?

I really think it is interesting that our sun can be sooooooo much smaller than other stars even though it looks so big and bright!
1. Luminous is the measure of light.
2. Woah!!! what would happen if you touched the sun? You would probably just burst into a puff of smoke.
3. Light takes only about 8 minutes to reach us even though it is millions of miles away.
4.The brightness of a star is similar to the brightness of a lightbulb because all stars glow differently and all lightbulbs glow differently.
5. You think the sun is big? If the sun is big, Betelgeuse is enormous!!!It is about 400 times as big!
These videos today were very interesting!

luminous means the all the brightness, of light coming out of the surface, kind of like how light you turn your lamp on. On my lamp, how many times you turn the switch, it gets brighter. So, its total brightens. For a star, It is way brighter! I do think it is interesting that it takes us so long to get to the earth, but it takes the speed of light 8 min.! Wow, I almost wish it did not. The other day, addy said that when the sun burned out, it would take 8 min. to get to us. If it took longer, who knows? it might be better. So, 7 billion people on earth. Wow that is so big. You could only fit like, 4 BILLION times that on Betelgeuse.
That is incredible!
