Install storage units at the end of each street, with access via a key for which we pay a small monthly or yearly fee. This would encourage more cycling and tidy-up the streets (and our gardens!).

There are two perfect triangular shaped spots for some greening on the corner of QPR and Southover by the block of flats. This would discourage fly tipping/use by dogs and bring some much needed greenery to the top of Southover. A Copenhagen crossing there would also discourage drivers from taking the corner very quickly as well as prevent people parking on the double yellow lines.
On QPR, widening the pavements would improve accessibility, the road is wide enough to accommodate this and perhaps a cycle super highway down one side as well and/or making part of the street one way as it is currently a thoroughfare for a lot of heavy traffic (buses, plant machinery and cars). The bins currently make it very difficult for pram and wheelchair users to easily navigate the pavement. A pedestrian crossing between Islingword and the Cherry Tree would also be beneficial to improve access to the park.

I attended this zoom meeting last night. There were some interesting presentations. One suggested that the concept of the 15 minute city would mean you would not need to travel as everything will be in Hanover! IMO it is important to get out - for this we need an affordable and reliable bus network as well. Furthermore there were no counter arguments to any statements - children playing in the street may sound great but this is not the only purpose of this scheme and could well be dangerous + we have parks etc in close proximity anyway. For this scheme to work and be successful it needs the support of all residents not just the ones the Greens choose to talk to. People have cars for a reason (getting to work etc) and this cannot be ignored. Please note I am not against this scheme per se I just think it needs proper consultation and real thought which was not apparent last night. Hanover is not Waltham Forest : narrow streets, predominantly residential, it is on a steep hillside!

Late Night Noise

A simple and cheap way to improve the liveable quality of Hanover should be to prioritise peace and quiet late at night. With the best will in the world the constant revolution of students, who are the main contributors of noise, adds to this problem — and sadly a polite conversation rarely sticks. Some consideration has to be taken into account for people raising families, those who feel trapped in their own homes, and everyone who needs a good night sleep! Pubs can’t create noise outside after 11pm so why should others be allowed to? Working closely with the uni to help enforce a noise ban after a certain hour could make a huge difference.

Underground Street Bins

A number of cities around the world have implemented underground street bins. The attached YouTube video shows how they work. They look great and could solve pretty much all the issues regarding bins in Hanover (eg. cluttered footpaths, fly-tipping, smelly bins). Liverpool City Council installed some last year (https://www.apse.org.uk/apse/index.cfm/news/articles/2020/bringing-the-benefits-of-underground-bins-to-the-uk/).

Brighton Council' Transport Strategy

This is probably worth supporting as it takes a strategic view for the whole of Brighton and prioritises those schemes that will make a real impact. eg traffic on elm grove and QP Road. There is an exhibition in the library but no mention is made of the Hanover LN Plan. Which IMO is not a priority when money is tight.
https://www.brightonhove.gov.uk/onejourneybetter#

There is no real case for the Hanover project as we are well placed to walk to local opportunities - shops, open green space etc. Traffic is not on the scale of London. Cycling is not an option for all so should only be promoted if other modes eg buses are made more affordable. Cycling without proper planning can also impact negatively on other groups eg pedestrians. I hope the green councilors promoting this scheme finally undertake some real consultation with all local residents and not just with those they are in agreement with.

Some great ideas already posted.

What I would like to see is a master plan that can be rolled out over the next few years. Controlling traffic flow, adding planters, new bike parking, dipped kerbs are great short term hits. What about thinking more deeply for the future? Some ideas; electric car charging points mass roll out, underground bins as on the continent and now Cambridge, mass renovation of housing to bring up to modern insulation standards, removal of wood stoves, roll out of a community heat network, mass community fitment of roof mounted solar. As a community we can use our numbers to achieve much more cost effectively.

Please make a better plan for Carlyle Street and Bentham Road!! These must be two of the busiest walking routes in Hannover for children going to school each day (either walking done the hill to Elm Grove or up the hill to St Lukes and the Orchard). Yet the current plans for a “low traffic” zone are going to dramatically increase the amount in of pollution and dangerous traffic on tese roads.
