When HIV patients come for dialysis, three main questions to consider are:

1. What is the patient's current viral load and CD4 count?

Understanding the patient's HIV status helps determine the risk of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) and guides management of antiretroviral therapy (ART) during dialysis.

2. What is the patient's current antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen?

Knowing the patient's ART regimen helps identify potential drug interactions with dialysis-related medications and ensures that the patient's HIV treatment plan is not compromised during dialysis.

3. What are the patient's vascular access options, and how will they be managed?

HIV patients on dialysis are at higher risk of developing infections and vascular access complications. Careful planning and management of vascular access options, such as arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) or central venous catheters (CVCs), are crucial to minimize these risks.
