Corona-Virus took a big toll on all of our lives. I chose this picture because this is a great example of contemporary social change that is going on in the world right now. Covid has affected many people's lives in the past year whether it is school, work, or even deaths in families, it has really taken a big toll on all of us. In the book, it states “Social change has many causes. In a world linked by sophisticated communication and transportation technology, change in one place often sets off change elsewhere."
( Macionis pg. 527 )

sources:
https://www.google.com/search?q=coronavirus&sxsrf=AOaemvI_EXyf6OlTux9WuyIWGuY4eU4xdQ:1639467523937&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiq7Ym75OL0AhURlGoFHUgiAYIQ_AUoBHoECAEQBg&biw=1585&bih=1222&dpr=1#imgrc=71jCyfEpk1FO6M&imgdii=f6xXMyMtokqo-M

I believe this tik tok video is a great example of collective behavior, a Palestine lives matter protest gathered by many people. Hundreds of individuals gathered together to fight for a change, which is a remarkable example of collective behavior. As stated in the nook “ Collective behavior is activity involving a large number of people that is unplanned, often controversial, and can bring about change.” ( Macionis p. 528 )

Source: video from tik tok

Structural-Functional perspective: Modernity as a mass Society

As stated in the book “ The face-to-face communication of the village was eventually replaced by the impersonal mass media: newspapers, radio, television, and the computer-based social media that link people throughout the world.” ( Macionis p. 540 ). I thought this would be a perfect example that I also witness on a daily basis. Nowadays people forget how to have face-to-face conversations and always have to be distracted while having conversations with one another.

sources:
https://www.google.com/search?q=cartoon+face+to+face&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjaqOW85OL0AhVija0KHVDKBVYQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=cartoon+face+to+face&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBggAEAUQHjIGCAAQCBAeMgYIABAIEB4yBggAEAgQHjIGCAAQCBAeOgcIIxDvAxAnOgcIABCxAxBDOgQIABBDOgsIABCABBCxAxCDAToICAAQgAQQsQM6BAgAEBhQvg1Y4ixgzi1oAHAAeACAAYcBiAGzEZIBBDEuMTmYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZ8ABAQ&sclient=img&ei=B0q4YZqJIOKatgXQlJewBQ&bih=1222&biw=1585#imgrc=Djl4jOl-OuOkKM

In the book it states that “ Modernization theory claims that in the past, the entire world was poor and that technological change, especially the Industrial Revolution, enhanced human productivity and raised living standards in many nations.” ( Macionis 546).
Social-Conflict Theory: Modernity as Class Society

This image from the book speaks for itself. The people that need the most help are not receiving it. A change needs to happen and start thinking about those in need more often and doing what we really can. In the book it states that “ The United States may face a number of social problems—from unemployment to hunger and industrial pollution to war—but these problems are also found in socialist nations.” ( Macionis p. 542 ). This is a good cartoon image of how they are being ignored

Source:
https://www.google.com/search?q=when+the+homless+guy+walks+towards+you+car+meme&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwj0-6Kb5-L0AhWyQUIHHQLbDdkQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=when+the+homless+guy+walks+towards+you+car+meme&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzoHCCMQ7wMQJzoFCAAQgAQ6BAgAEEM6CAgAEIAEELEDOgoIABCxAxCDARBDOgsIABCABBCxAxCDAVDfCFihUmCmU2gAcAB4AoAB1gWIAeY9kgEONS4zNi4wLjMuMi4xLjGYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZ8ABAQ&sclient=img&ei=5ky4YfTwILKDieoPgra3yA0&bih=1240&biw=2560#imgrc=U6XPwefiow_ZiM

This image shows a great cycle of Modernity and the individual. In the book it states that “ As a result, many people shuttle from one identity to another, changing their lifestyles, relationships, and even religions in search of an elusive “true self.” With how the generation is today, the majority of the people are having a hard time being true to themselves and changing everything about them.

Source:
https://www.google.com/search?q=fashion+trends&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwi7tpG25-L0AhUBXlMKHZezDskQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=fashion+tr&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQARgBMggIABCABBCxAzIICAAQgAQQsQMyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDILCAAQgAQQsQMQgwEyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyCwgAEIAEELEDEIMBMgUIABCABDoHCCMQ7wMQJzoECAAQQzoHCAAQsQMQQzoKCCMQ7wMQ6gIQJ1C3CFjmJGDpOGgEcAB4AIABmgGIAc8LkgEEMC4xMZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nsAEKwAEB&sclient=img&ei=Hk24YbuvNYG8zQKX57rIDA&bih=1240&biw=2560#imgrc=AiiWUqQNwnnzDM

This chart here is a great example of postmodernity, the comparison between the modern age and the postmodern age. In the book it states that “ Science no longer holds the answers. The defining trait of the modern era was a scientific outlook and a confident belief that technology would make life better.” ( Macionis p 546 ) In this generation, time is really changing and people are not believing but used to be believed.

Source :
https://www.google.com/search?q=Postmodernity&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjIn62J4OL0AhXj8lMKHb7zCpYQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=Postmodernity&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIGCAAQBRAeMgYIABAFEB4yBAgAEBgyBggAEAoQGDoHCAAQsQMQQzoECAAQQ1D-BVj-BWCoCWgAcAB4AIABjQGIAYMCkgEDMC4ymAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=aUW4YYjHN-PlzwK-56uwCQ&bih=1279&biw=1585#imgrc=RIZ58ZlAxKphnM
