Views on society and how society has shaped the aging process

American society has generally valued youth over age. This can make it very difficult to not only accept one is aging, but as you age, it can start to feel like you’re becoming less seen, heard, appreciated, or respected. This can often become evident in the workplace, as the experience that older workers have can often be disregarded or seen as “out of touch.” This can make the aging process feel lonely and isolating for many older adults, especially if you don’t have a partner or spouse to grow old with and experience this next stage in life.

Today, older adults are now working longer than they used to, which means there are many more older adults in our workplaces today than before. Technology has enabled older adults to live longer in their own home longer, delaying and sometime eliminating the need to move into a senior living care facility. Also, life expectancy has increased for both men and women, and thus, keeping the body moving and healthy is important to long, quality life. Because older adults are living longer than ever before, saving money for retirement and focusing on health and wellness has never been more important.

I would also show off as my mom had company. I would swing from the limbs right in front of the picture window. T o the amazement of her guests."

"One of the most impactful coaches I ever had was the late Hubert Vogelsinger. He was a no -nonsense Austrian soccer player who taught me about having confidence in one’s abilities. He would regularly call me up to demonstrate skills in front of the group. During high school he visited as a guest to speak to our school. He remembered me and called me up to demonstrate a kick in front of the entire school. My first attempt I was so nervous I hit the ball and it went way wide of the target. He told me to relax and have confidence. I took a deep breath and stepped up to take the kick. It went straight to the target all I remembered was the crowd cheering. It felt great! I developed a love for the game and have played ever since. I now own my own business where we teach young children to play."

One song that was linked to a special memory for my grandpa was this song by Guns N' Roses called "Knockin' On Heaven's Door". He was in his teenage years and this was one of the first concerts my grandpa ever went to. He remembered being so beyond excited for this concert because of the fact he had front row tickets. This was his favorite song and the one he was most excited for.
