Apparently, the concept of virtual reality derives from both ' virtual ' and ' reality ' concepts. The definition of ' virtual ' is close and what we experience as human beings is reality. So basically the term ' virtual reality ' means ' near-reality.

Virtual reality is the term used to describe a computer-generated, three-dimensional world which a person can enter and communicate with. The person becomes a part of this virtual world or is submerged in this environment and is capable of controlling objects or carrying out a series of actions while there.
(Virtual Reality Society, n.d.)

Vision simulation is the primary topic of virtual reality. Each headset is intended to perfect its approach to creating an interactive 3D world. Each VR headset thus puts a screen (or two-one for each eye) before the eyes, preventing all contact with the real world.

In general, two autofocus lenses are positioned between the screen and the eyes, which change based on individual eye movement and positioning. The head-tracking system of VR headsets tracks the head's motions to sides and angles. It assigns directions and motions to the X, Y, Z axis, and contains devices such as the accelerometer, gyroscope, a circle of LEDs (around the headset to make the camera outside). Some headsets contain an infrared controller that tracks the direction of your eyes inside a virtual environment. The major benefit of this technology is to get a more realistic and deeper field of view. The on-screen graphics are made either using a mobile phone or HDMI cable connected to a Laptop.
(Newgenapps.com, 2018)
(Thinkmobiles, n.d., Lamkin, 2016)

The main benefit of having virtual reality in our daily lives it that it is more than just an immersive expereince , it is realistic and provide users with an interactive approach . For instance , while watching a movie a user will feel and see the characters moving around which wont be limited to a flat screen . Another great advantage is that virtual reality also helps in training purposes such as for military exercises where a user will be presented with almost exactly the same scenario as real life . Moreover , virtual reality is also helpful in surgical training and the education sector as well as it increases the students interest in a particular topic/subject.

While there are alot of advantages for having virtual reality in our lives , it is also argued that virtual reality often results in users getting addicted to the virtual world . In addition , the simulations presented in virtual reality donot always mean that a user will expereince the exact same thing in real life . Another disadvantage is that it is still experimental and has not yet been finalised and not every other person can have it because it is very expensive to maintain,

Virtual reality innovations of today draw on concepts goes back to the 1800s, almost to the very beginning of realistic photography. The first stereoscope had been invented in 1838, using twin mirrors to project a single image. That eventually developed into the View-Master, which was patented in 1939 and still manufactured today.

However, the use of the word "virtual reality" was first used in the mid-1980s when Jaron Lanier, founder of VPL (Virtual Programming Languages) Science, started to create the equipment you needed to explore what he called "virtual reality," including goggles and gloves.

By 1965, another inventor, Ivan Sutherland, proposed "the ultimate show," a head-mounted computer that he said would act as a "window into a virtual world." Optical developments were running parallel to projects working on haptic devices and other technologies that would allow you to walk around in virtual space.

For example, the NASA Ames Research Center, in the mid-80s, combined a head mounting system with a gloves in order to allow the haptic contact with the Virtual Interface Environment Workstation (VIEW).
(History of Virtual Reality, 2020)
