For the first time on the POCC main stage I felt represented and seen. Dr Barakat was honest, despite the courage that took, and shared an impactful talk on the dangers of Islamophobia and anti-Arab hate. She referenced many credible sources and gave us helpful information we could take back to our school.

I was inspired and moved by Dr. Barakat's strength and presence at the POCC. I have worked at an NAIS school for 20 years, and it was the first time I saw my family reflected on stage. Our family’s suffering finally felt like it mattered. I have never had an educator (all the way through grad school) who looked like me and shared my culture. To have a speaker represent my family’s story through sharing her family's tragedy generated hope.

Thank you, from the deepest point of my soul! Thank you for lifting the voices of your family, and amplifying the voices of so many present. Your words landed heavily on my ears, and I see so many of my loved ones reflected in your message. Never stop working for justice and peace!

Although I did not attend POCC this past December, I am verry close to my three coworkers who did attend, and I went last years. All three of them acclaimed Dr. Barakat's difficult and deeply touching speech. At least one said she was moced to tears. All three expressed admiration for the tough topics that Dr. Barakat covered and especially fairmindedly and throughly she covered them.
