Kossek, who studied the ecological perspective and the innovations in the study of the work-family interface states that having family support and higher commitment to caregiving see themselves caring for the future and applying more structure in their life. Having family support can change the resources that rob Ralph of his power.

While oppression is highly racially influenced due to the power given to minority groups, oppression can be from individuals from similar racial groups. Ralph for example is oppressed by his socio-economic status not only from his family but his parole officer as well. 
Nnawulezi, who conducted a study to foster ecological perspectives on power, privilege, and oppression stated the failure to incorporate ecological frameworks leads to the adoption of world views such as belief in a just world, viewing that everyone has access to social resources, most importantly that people are solely responsible for their destiny. Just from his socio economic status, Ralph experiences little to no privilege and power due to the privilege and power of his family and parole officer. 
Nnawulezi's study enforces how ones  power from the beginning calls the shots and plays the game.
