Interesting tree - Michael Badali

This is a tree I pass by each day when I walk my dog. It is five minutes away from my home and it is unlike any other tree in the area. I am not the first person to have been drawn to it. I have seen other people walk by and stare as well as there is something unique about it. The shape, its size and the number of branches all get your attention and hold your gaze for just long enough that it makes an impression on you. In the spring it is even more beautiful as you can see all the leaves on the tree.

Colourful Winter Sunset (Solomia)

This is a photo of a beautiful sunset I took on my way home. During the long winter months, it has been relatively grey and cloudy. There were times when there wasn't a single sunny day in more than 3 weeks. However, recently with spring just around the corner, there have been some beautiful sunsets. The sky and the colours of this particular sunset were so bold and vibrant. Possible questions and opportunities for inquiry might be related to the sun, sunsets, the sky and clouds. It just so happens that this is directly related to what some of my Grade 4 students were talking about just a couple of weeks ago: Why the sky changes colours when the sun sets or when the sun rises? Why do the colours of sunsets vary from day to day? Why are some sunsets so colourful?
