Unauthorised persons in restricted areas?
All ground personnel should be ready to challenge anyone who does not have authorised access. They could be planting something they shouldn't
Gates and security doors left open and unmanned?
Do not leave gates and doors open, ensure that these doors and gates are fully closed behind you after entering or leaving. You do not want unauthorised personnel in those areas.
Lending ID badges to colleagues / friends?
some one will always be checking staff ID badges through the scanner and visually compare the person to the image on the ID. If someone is using another person's ID they will be reported to the police.
Fake passports and travel documents?
When checking-in PAX someone will ensure to check all passports to ensure it is valid and that the name is the same. they will make sure the name is the same as the ticket. If any passports have been tampered with or the PAX leave any suspicions staff will call a supervisor and report it and security or police will be called.
Passengers attempting to get dangerous goods or weapons into the passenger cabin?
All PAX bags and personal items will be screened for weapons or dangerous items that could be used against security. Airlines have a page of items that can be taken on-board on their websites so look before you risk anything.
Carrying items through for an unknown person?
PA’s will be made to remind PAX not to accept or carry anything through the airport for anybody else. Any items such as a letter or card to post could contain dangerous information.
Leaving bags unattended?
PA’s are also being made in the airport to remind PAX not to leave their unattended baggage.
If you are watching a bag that is unattended you must call the airport police or security.
The area will be taped off and the bag inspected for a name, sound, smell or any suspicious movements.

Ground personnel should be ready to catch the unauthorised person in these areas. If someone has the wrong passport and boarding pass ground personnel should call the police or security to come and help sort this out. Same for staff IDs if they aren't matching the person wearing the ID you should call police and security.

If ground personnel notice that someone is trying to carry through suspicious items they should immediately pull this person over and the items will be confiscated and the person will potentially be arrested. If someone was to leave a bag unattended ground staff will isolate this bag and a PA will be made to ask if anyone recognises this bag. If no one claims this bag then the bag will be assessed for smell, noise and if there was a name.

As an airport worker you must follow security protocols and procedures.

Always report anything strange or suspicious ensuring to call security or police. Never turn a blind eye to anything as that could be detrimental.

As a passenger you need to follow instructions from any airport personnel. You must answer any and all security questions honestly and seriously. if you see any suspicious behaviour or items you should be reporting this to security or airport police.

The Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 is an Act of Parliament made by the United Kingdom and formally introduced into Parliament on 19 November 2001 only two

months after the terrorist attack in the United States on the 11th of September.

Whereas the Maritime operations (where security is regulated by DfT) prior to the

attacks on the USA on 11 September 2001, the UK's maritime security

regime was provided by the Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990. It

also applies to passenger vessels and roll-on/roll off services and the

ports that serve them.

When the PAX arrives at the check in desk all passports are checked for validity and authenticity and check your names on the tickets match. A person working on the check in desk will ask the following questions:

Did you pack your own bags today
Has anyone given something for you to carry through from them
Have you left your bags unattended at any point

Once you have declared your bags and suitcase, the next step would be to go through security and get your carry-on screened. All PAX that have a boarding pass and passport will be asked to see their documents and they will be checked to ensure that the passenger is real their names match up and to see if they have a real flight to get. Shortly after the PAX will go through a metal detector most PAX go through a 360 body scanner and if you're unlucky you could be one of the random PAX that will be body frisked. That could also lead to bags being searched if there was a suspicious item or if the person is acting suspicious.

It is crutial that all staff members that work within the airport follow the procedures and protocols that is outlined by the CAA and Legislation.

It is extremely important that all PAX have had themselves and bags screened for restricted items from being taken on the A/C. All PAX are checked muliple times before being permitted to board the A/C. For example at the check-in desk, security, screeing and at the boarding gate. The A/C must not take off with too many missing PAX without the situation being investigated.This would result to bags being offloaded, delays and PAX missing their flights.

AAA stands for A- Authorised,

A- accountable and A- authentic.

Tripple A is the security process of Accounting and Authorising for baggage/cargo on the A/C. It ia a legal requirement for airlines to ensure that all baggage loaded onto a aircraft is safe and alowed outside of the UK. This became a legal requirement in the fight against terrorism within the aviation industry on July 4th 1994.

All ground staff must be authorised to work airside. They will have to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check that must be carried out on every staff member who works in the aviation industry weather they are on the ground or in the air. The DBS will look into a 10 year history for adults and a 5 year history for young adults.

Ground staff working alongside the A/C unit must ensure that they are reading and signing authentic documents. For example load sheets, cargo documents or PIL’s. Although ground personnel who work as PSA’s in the airport will play a vital role for checking all PAX passports are truely authentic and that all PAX have a valid boarding pass to board the A/C. Any PAX that are not in possession of a valid boarding pass will not be allowed to board the A/C under any circumstance and will be investigated.
