         <description><![CDATA[<div>Artist: Red Grooms<br><br>Lesson idea: The teacher will bring up this piece of art to the class and tell how this is more of a silly depiction of humanity. We will then discuss what makes this piece of art "silly" (facial expression, hand placement, etc.). Then once discussion is over, the students will create a self-portrait of themselves being silly, whatever that means to them. We will have them focus mostly on the face, but can add a full body if desired.&nbsp;<br><br>Grade level: 4-6<br><br>Key concepts: Realism,&nbsp;self-portrait, proportion<br><br>Materials explored:&nbsp;White paper, crayons, oil pastels, paints, colored pencils, etc. The students may use whatever they would like to create their piece of art. <br><br>Cross-curricular connections:&nbsp;In a way, this can relate to a science class.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Artist: Joanne Claxton<br><br>Lesson idea: After learning a lesson about the bones of the body, the teacher will show the class this painting which depicts humanity in a different way. They will also try to identify the different bones that are shown in the painting.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Artist: Susan Cohen Thompson<br><br>Lesson idea: After reading the folk tale "Why Trees Whisper", the teachers would show the students this painting. They would discuss the humanity in inanimate objects. We would talk about what parts of the tree make up the person, and discuss how humanity and nature can help each other in the world. Afterwards, we would have the students create a painting of themselves as one with nature. They can also have the option of using colored pencils if they so choose.<br><br>Grade level: 5-6<br><br>Key concepts: Contrast, form, one with nature<br><br>Materials explored: Oil pastels, watercolors, colored pencils. <br><br>Cross-curricular connections: The students are learning about folk-tales, which can be a part of a certain aspect of history.<br><br>Historical events: See above.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Artist: Nick Cave (1959-present)<br><br>Lesson idea: The teacher would show the students this painting, and discuss with them how this is a representation of humanity. They would discuss the human body silhouette, and reasons they think that the artist added all of the extra features onto the piece.
