I feel like most of Kenya's identity is made up of the hundreds of tribes that live it in. With all these different cultural practices, customs and traditions I feel like that's what Kenya's culture is, many different african customs mixed into one. 
Their art is also quite distinct, and Kenyans are very experienced in wood-carving. I think this shapes Kenya's identity because it stands out as being one of the art from that Keyan's are really good at. 
The last factor, is the folklore and legends that have been passed down from a generation to the next. Aside from their customs and their cultural practices, I believe that their folklore is another big factor that plays a part in shaping Kenya's culture. This is because the people who listen to these stories would tend to believe in it, thus shaping the way they act, speak, and affects their mindset on some things. 

2. In my opinion, Kenya's identity is torn in two. The first half is staying true to their roots, trying to keep their rituals and their customs intact, remembered and pure. This is proving to be quite difficult, as more western influences are gaining momentum in converting many of the people in Kenya to practice their customs. Kenya's preservation of nature would make a kenyan feel proud to belong to the country as Kenya is playing a key role in protecting the wildlife. Q.2 Kenyan identity today may be hard to be identified by due to the influence of many other civilisations and the cultures and practices that have been brought forth by them to the kenyan people. Unlike singapore where our identities have a a few fixed characteristics, kenyan's have many factors that make up who they are.     Religion shapes the identity as it influences their actions and what they should abide by. The Kenyan people have to follow certain rituals in order to become ‘holy’ and ‘clean’. (eg. circumcision in The River Betweeb) 
    Next, culture shapes their identity as it plays a vital role in the customs, beliefs and behavior of the Kenyan people. For eg.They have celebrations and songs which they would sing when they mourn or rejoice. 
    Relationships between the environment and the people also play a significant role in shaping the Kenyan identity as they rely on the wildlife for food or even company. As for the environment, the Kenyan people usually live in huts alongside the hills and valleys. They have a close connection with the land because of the daily activities that they do there. 


    I have learnt that the Kenyan identity is slowly evolving and changing into a more “British like” identity and culture because of colonization.     Kenyan culture itself is unique and one-of-a kind. It instead consists of various cultures practiced by the country's different communities such as their cuisine, their literacy work, media and theatre work. Each consists of Kenya's unique way of it.
    Their religion mainly consist of Christianity followed by Islam, Buddhismand Hinduism and Christianity is the dominant religion due to the Whites who colonised Kenya back then.
    Their identity are unique as it consist of their own tradition clothing and music.

    I have learnt about the state of the Kenyan identity from the presentations are still well maintained even though they had been colonised before as they still maintained their traditional culture,as if kenya had not be colonised before. What intrigues me is that they still preserve their tradition believes well and this is uncommon as most colonised countries will generally follow the culture of those who colonised their country. I feel that Kenya’s Village Life, Myths and Legends and The Role of Wonem and Men makes up Kenya’s identity.
    Kenya’s Village Life is what the people in Kenya face every day. Their different lifestyles, practices and different believes shapes what they do in their daily lives. 
    Myths and Legends will affect what Kenyans believe in as the stories are passed down from their ancestors which is also their origin. This factor is also quite largely emphasised in the book, The Rivers Between. 
    The Role of Women and Men tells us the difference between Men and Women in Kenya. Unlike most of the modern society nowadays, men and women now, are viewed as equal. The fact that they still have a different role in Kenya shows the unique culture that they have. 

    2. I have learnt about the different traditions the Kenyans have. Some of the interesting rituals they have are that the newborn children in Meru are held up to face Mount Kenya to recieve blessings, red and white are bad colours and black is associated with god. Besides I have also learnt about how the British Colonisation affected Kenya’s culture. 
    I personally liked the Arts and Culture of Kenya because it showcased a rather different and new type of Visual Art, Music and Dance that does not exist in the modern cities.
