They were very poor, and Malin's mother worked hard to support them. Malin was a diligent and ambitious boy who dreamed of becoming rich and successful to lift his mother out of poverty.</p>]]></description>

However, when his mother came to greet him, Malin was ashamed of her and denied knowing her. He refused to acknowledge her as his mother, fearing it would tarnish his reputation.</p>]]></description>

Malin himself was turned into stone as a result of his mother's curse. To this day, a rock formation resembling a man can be found on the coast of Sumatra, believed to be the petrified remains of Malin Kundang.</p>]]></description>

When Sangkuriang proposed to her, she set an impossible condition to avoid the marriage: he must build a large boat and a lake in one night.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Sangkuriang accepted the challenge and used his supernatural powers to summon spirits to help him. As dawn approached, Dayang Sumbi saw that Sangkuriang was about to complete the task. She prayed to the gods to stop him, and they created a false dawn. Thinking he had failed, Sangkuriang kicked the unfinished boat in frustration, which turned into a mountain called Tangkuban Perahu, meaning "upturned boat." The mountain still stands today, reminding people of the legend.</p>]]></description>
