As the coordinator for the Adolescent Generalist Special Education program I strive to provide a seamless experience for my students. One that challenges them cognitively but that also fuels their hearts and passion for teaching.

I'm originally from Miami and relocated here thanks to a tenure track position at Hunter. I definitely miss the Miami sun and heat but LOVE Hunter students.

Some goals this summer include:
Making SPED 771 students fall in love with literacy and culturally responsive instruction.

Enjoying the beach (any beach) with my hubby and 10 year old son.

I look forward in beginning these courses because I want to learn how to effectively teach reading, writing and content subjects to secondary students with disabilities. Since, I have only been familiar teaching elementary students.

My summer goals is have fun with loved ones, rest and do well in these summer courses to prepare myself to teach in the fall.

During my undergrad studies, I fell in love with teaching students with disabilities. This course will help me to improve my knowledge of facilitating learning for students with varied needs, as well as, assist in forging the path to teach secondary school students.

I am from the Island of Jamaica, where I spent all of my childhood years. Originally, I came to Pennsylvania, spent some time on long Island, and finally relocated to Brooklyn within the same year. I have lived in Brooklyn for the pass 16 years.

My summer goal is to prepare myself for the classroom come September.

I am a 2006 Teaching Fellow. I began my full time teaching career at the elementary level from 2006-2010. In 2008, I graduated from Mercy College with a MS in Education. Due to uncontrollable circumstances I became a substitute teacher in 2010. I am currently working as a Sub Assigned Special Education Teacher at the High School for Violin and Dance.

I am originally from St. Croix U.S Virgin Islands. I enjoy traveling, shopping and spending time with my 8 year old son and 17 year old daughter.

My summer challenges are teaching 3 periods of summer school and successfully completing 6 credits in 6 weeks.

Hi everyone! My name is Stephanie Finkler. I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York. I graduated from Saint Joseph’s College last year with a Child Study degree and a minor in psychology. I am currently in the process of getting a Master degree in Education to further my knowledge in the field to better myself as an educator. I am also looking forward to extending my teaching license and taking classes at Hunter College! I am currently taking 5 college classes so this is my challenge for the summer. I am also looking for a fulltime teaching job. I am interested in working with special needs students, as I have a family member who was a child with special needs. Last year I was a fulltime substitute teacher in a fourth-grade general education classroom. The students in my classroom were all English Language Learners.

I believe that every child can learn and make progress. But they need the right person to help them achieve their goals. I want to be that educator to help children achieve their goals. I believe that every child is capable of establishing a bright and promising future for themselves. With the right guidance, love, and support they will be able to believe in themselves, and realize that anything is possible. It will be my job to establish a safe and welcoming community based classroom where students can feel comfortable and confident about who they are and of who they have potential to be. It will also be my goal to teach them to show respect and love for themselves, their classmates, others, and their community.

At the end of the course I hope to learn more techniques with working with adolescence. I want to take chances and test my limits as an educator so that I can see what works and does not. I hope to strengthen the structure of my lessons. Also, I would like to be exposed to ways of how to differentiate instruction for different types of learners.

I am hoping that I am able to complete all assignments and other requirements for this course and my other classes. I am concerned that the work load will be intense. I will need to pace myself throughout the semester. Overall, I am looking forwards to the semester and the knowledge and experience that I will gain along the way.
