Jonathan Livingston Seagull

By Thomas Batzakis

It was morning and Jonathan Livingston Seagull out by himself was practicing alone because he loved to fly. His mother always asked him why it was so hard to be like the rest of the flock but Jonathan wanted to know what he could do in the air and what he couldn΄t. For a few days he tried to behave like the other gulls but he couldn΄t make it work. It wasn΄t long before Jonathan Gull was off by himself again learning. The subject was speed so he tried again and this time it worked. In ten seconds he has blurred through ninety miles per hour. But the victory was short because the gulls cast him out of gullsociety. Now he would have the solitary life.

One day Jonathan was gliding peaceful and alone though his beloved sky. He saw two gulls like him and followed them into a perfect dark sky far away. He thought that was heaven with only few gulls like him. For a long time Jonathan had forgotten about the world that he had come from and for a long time all together had spent hour after hour every day practicing flight. Once he asked his instructor if their purpose for living was to find that perfection and show it forth. The elder told him that he would begin to touch heaven in the moment that he could touch perfect speed. After that he learned more and more till he became instructor himself. He stayed there and worked with the new birds coming in. But in his heart he wanted to go back and teach the others about flying. He was an outcast but he decided to give it a try. So he went. The only true law was that which leads to freedom, So he had a few students although the law of the flock was to set aside all this.

The only true law is that which leads to freedom

The tale of Jonathan Livingston Seagull is that of a rebel; a gull that wanted nothing but to experience freedom in the concept of flying, in a society where such extremities are thought of as redundant.
Jonathan was persistent and precise in his efforts to obtain knowledge about flight and its mechanics. He calculated, applied and failed. And he tried again. Even when rejection from his folks took the best of him.
Once confronted by the hierachy of the flock, the elder seagulls, he became outcast. He still wouldn't give up his dream of flying simply for the sake of doing it and not just to search for food.
Jonathan eventually came to be in a heavenly state, along with other like-minded birds, a "gull paradise" if you will, where he obtained all sorts of wisdom. He "perfected" his flying performance and he started to see life from a whole new perspective.
As much as he'd become accustomed to heaven, his work on earth wasn't done, he felt. And so he came back. He wanted to teach other gulls to fly. He had to spread his message of freedom and that nothing mattered more in life.
Ultimately, he gathered a small group of outcast seagulls just like him and went to face the "breakfast flock" once again. Only this time he wasn't alone and he knew better; he spoke little but he spoke wisdom. More and more "outcasts" gathered by Jonathan Suagull's side wanting to be free themselves, some of them not even knowing why; as if it was ingrained in them all along.
It didn't matter that these seagulls chose to break a made-up flock rule, for the only true law is that which leads to freedom.
                                             - ioli.g

Impressions on Jonathan Livingston - Seagull by Danai Konnafi

Dear diary,
Yesterday I finished a book, which I think was splendid. The symbolism was very relevant to what's happening in our society nowadays, so I wanted to share my impressions on it. A seagull by the name ofJonathan Livingston has a major optimistic point of view. The book, overall, tells the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a gull who believes that seagulls are not only meant for fighting about food. He stronly believes in himself and doesn't give up, meaning that he keeps flying and learning. Meanwhile, the other gulls are still struggling to find their food and a place to live. I find this book very life-inspiring because it teaches you that you can overcome your upcoming obstacles if you keep working. Like Livingston, who was living for the moment and fighting for achieving new levels, we can metaphorically try to become a ''seagull'' by ourselves and change the stereotypical world we live in.

Love,
Danai

The story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull is about a persistent, brave and a dynamic seagull which his passion was to fly and be free. He was distinguished for his concentration and most importantly because he never let go of his dreams. Within a society where he was confronted with judgement and rejection he managed to achieve his goal and not just search for food and be like everyone else. Also ,despite the fact that he failed he kept on fighting, and eventually he improved in his flying skills.Jonathan's body was growing brighter and then he began to touch perfection. He wanted to discover heaven and to know the feeling of it. During that time he was nearly a perfect flight student .In conclusion Jonathan is a real life example of not giving up and of not losing hope.He fought for his dreams and became a perfect unlimited gull. We have to put aside everything that limit us because there is a reason for life as Jonathan said.

by Katerina Kazantzidou

Dear diary,

Today I read a book named “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”. This is a story about a seagull which does not conform to the norms of society to live a life that consists only of eating and surviving. Instead, Jonathan follows his own dream to fly for the joy of flying. For him, flying is life, a higher purpose and he doesn't give up besides the difficulties he deals with.

This whole story makes me realize that we should go after our dreams in order to achieve our goals. Against the will of society, we must believe in ourselves and make the most of our lives. We should stand for our beliefs, even though there might be nobody to support us.

by Vasileia Amaniou

Things that clicked on me… It is a story about a seagull going up against the social rules of seagull society, but it is really just referring to human society. What makes Jonathan Livingston Seagull so admirable, is that he not only stood up “against” his “bird society” and the seagull rules, but also his own family. He did not compromise and he even embarks on his own journey of self-discovery, this book really left me speechless.

Samantha and her big brother went out to play with the snow, since this time of the year is their favorite. As they were going to find their friends, they saw a blackbird on the ground. Jim, Samantha’s brother, ran to see if it was okay. The kids realized that the blackbird was about to die due to the cold weather. They took it to their house and tried to make it warm, by putting it next to the fire. When the blackbird opened its eyes, Jim gave it a slice of bread and some water to drink. After a while, the bird started flying all over the house, when it found an opened window, it flew away. The kids were happy for helping it but sad for not having the chance to give it the love they wanted.

by Elisavet Petraki

There was a blackbird at once, which was very solitary. It perched on the branches of its favourite tree and never flew away. One day, as it was singing, it looked up. A flock of birds was flying in formation. It dreamt of itself being one of them, but it was almost impossible to fly so high so it was upset. Suddenly, a bird saw him upset and asked him what happened. It told it what happened and the other bird said to him that when it has younger it could not fly too but it tried hard and finally it was able to fly. The other's bird had damaged its wings when it was younger but someone said to him ' take these broken wings and fly'. That gave the blackbird courage and it tried to follow this advice. After a lot of hard work its wings got stronger and it was able to arise and fly.

However, it wasn’t mourning. The old tree that it was sitting on and had been sitting on for his whole life wasn’t holding it back anymore. It was free. This magical feeling made it start to sing a beautiful melody, one he hadn’t sung before. While it was singing, it looked up and saw a flock of birds flying in formation. The blackbird could not resist gazing at them. Without a second thought, it made up its mind. It started flying, higher and higher, higher than it had ever flown before. No past experience could compare to this. Sadly, it didn’t last very long. It lost control and fell. Thankfully, it wasn’t harmed badly, just a few scratches. His nature was against him, but it was determined to fly high again. And so it did from then and on.

by Pelagia Trigoni

There was once a little blackbird. Its dream was to learn how to fly high, so it could travel the world. However, its family always told it that it would be extremely dangerous, and that it should stay on their tree, for its own safety. The little blackbird had spent its whole life sitting on those branches, it could not continue living like that, stuck on the ground. One day, though, while it was looking up the sky daydreaming, it noticed a flock of beautiful, white birds flying in formations. It got jealous as they seemed so happy and free. It really wanted to feel that free. So, it thought, that maybe if it would fly that high, it would become sο beautiful as those birds and it would liberate itself. And that is exactly what it did. It started flying higher and higher, to the point where trees where only dots to it. For the first time in its whole life, it felt excited about something, it felt like the whole world was right in front of it. Suddenly, it got extremely tired. It lost control of its wings and then it realized it was about to start falling. It tried to keep clapping its little wings but it was hopeless. It thought that this was unfair. The ground was far down and there was nothing it could do in order to save itself. This small moment of freedom had cost it a lot more than it could have ever imagineδ. And that was the last thought that ran its mind right before it crashed the ground.

by Aggeliki Tzoumerka

Once upon a time there was this uniquely beautiful blackbird sitting on the branch of a tree. Because of the young of his age his parents were overprotective and constantly worried for him. One day he expressed his need to fly to his parents and their reaction to that idea was far from receptive. Sadness took over his soul due to the fact that he wasn’t allowed to act his thoughts. After days and nights of flirting with the idea of opening his wings and flying to the sky free of all his restraints and obligations, he decided to disobey his parents and try. He stood at the end of a thick branch staring at the ground, only now did he understand his parents’ warnings “flying is dangerous”, “your wings are weak”, “you are going to fall”. He opened his wings, only to close them seconds after. It wasn’t that scary in my dreams he thought to himself, but he also couldn’t stop himself from thinking how amazing it felt. Try, all you got to do is try, and with that said, he opened his wings again, more determined this time and suddenly his small legs weren’t touching the tree. He was flying. He was a little unsteady in the beginning, something that scared him deeply but he didn’t stop. I can do it, and he did it. He kept flying and flying till he reached the clouds and saw the beauty of the world he was living in from another point of view. And then he sang. He sang for the green forests; he sang for the blue color of the sky and the softness of the clouds that surrounded him. He sang for his dreams that now had come true.

by Dimitris Pourikas

There was a blackbird once, very long ago, which was very solitary. It perched on the branches of its favourite tree and never flew away. One day, as it was singing it looked up. A flock of birds was flying in formation. It had never seen anything so beautiful before! It plunged into thinking. 'Perhaps I should try to fly, at least once'. And the thought became action, so for the first time the blackbird started to fly higher and higher in the sky. Someone could have said that it disappeared between the stars. It was feeling so powerful, so free, it felt like an eagle. Suddenly it stopped. 'No I'm not an eagle' it said. 'I'm a blackbird! And I can fly higher than any eagle ever could'. The next day it started travelling. Searching for blackbirds from all around the world to teach them how to fly like itself... It wasn't easy. A lot of blackbirds didn't want to believe it and never tried. But our blackbird knew the truth and never stopped to spread it world wide. They say, that if you stay up late at night, when everybody else is sleeping, you can hear his beautiful singing in the sky.

by Maria Alexandropoulou

Once upon a time there were two blackbirds. The two birds were living together in their nest and they were very happy. They were singing together every morning and they were telling stories to each other every night. Unfortunately, all the good things end at some point, so their wonderful life stopped being so wonderful as well.

One day, as they were singing their usual morning song, they heard some strange and loud voices. As time went on, the blackbirds realized that the voices were coming towards them. After a while they could see some children coming to their tree holding stones. The birds panicked. They didn’t know if they should leave their nest and fly away or stay to defend it. By the time they decided, the kids had already started attacking them and laughing. This lasted for a few minutes. However, they were enough to destroy the nest.

Thus, the two birds were left homeless. They were so sad that they couldn’t stop crying. They knew that they had to find a new place to stay. As if by magic, as long as the poor blackbirds did not know what to do to survive, a larger bird approached them. It was an owl. She told them that she rarely leaves her nest but this time she wanted to visit them as she heard that they were attacked in such a terrible way. She saw their damaged nest and felt really sad for them. So, she promised to find them a new home.

So, it happened! The owl talked to all her friends and informed them that the two birds needed a nest. So, the whole forest ran to help them build a new one. By nightfall everything was ready and they all had dinner together while telling stories.

Jonathan isn’t an ordinary Seagull <<for this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight>>. He tried very hard to be good at flying. He had a lot of failures, such as me, but this forced him to try harder regardless of the body ‘’chains’’and discovered that boredom and fear and anger are the reason that a gull's life is so short. Also, by following his dream of flying, Jonathan is able to achieve true happiness, the ‘’heaven’’. But his thought was on Earth because he wanted to teach others what he had learned the unlimitless of Seagull. My diary I hope one day I will be like Jonathan Livingston Seagull!

by Anastasia Thomopoulou

Once upon a time there was a blackbird which was very happy with its life because it was free and it could fly all over the word. Its name was Black. One day, it saw a swan in a lake, and it was so white and beautiful that it stole its heart. Black asked the swan if he was the happiest bird in the world because of his beauty. The swan replied that he wasn’t because he saw a parrot with multiple colours, and thought that he was the most beautiful bird in the world. So, Black flew far away in order to find a beautiful parrot and ask him what he feels about that.

After many days he found one and asked him. He answered that he wasn’t the most beautiful bird in the world because he saw a peacock. All these birds felt sad about themselves, because even though they actually thought they had been beautiful at first, afterwards, they found something more beautiful. Black was flying for days in order to find the most beautiful and, as a consequence, the happiest of all the birds.

He found a peacock in a cage in a big zoo and many people around it in order to admire its beauty. When he listened to its answer, his mentality changed forever. Yes, peacock was one of the most beautiful birds in the world, but it was also one of the saddest. Because of his beauty it was forced to live in a cage for its entire life. So, it felt jealous of Black and his freedom.

After his adventure Black realized that freedom is the most important value of all and that he made comparisons with others for no reason. In the end, he understood that he was the happiest bird not because of his beauty but because of his free life.

He couldn’t behave like the other gulls because he wanted to spend all of his time learning to fly. Jonathan, after a lot of attempts, had set a world speed record for seagulls. After his failure, he decided to give up and be just another one of the seagulls, but he broke his promise and achieved to fly at two hundred fourteen miles per hour. Jonathan also learned a lot of techniques that no other gull was able to do. However, one day the gulls were flocked into the council and accused him for his reckless irresponsibility and the other gulls refused to believe his glory. After that he found a different life and a purpose for living and began to touch heaven. Also, he helped new birds flying. One day he decided to return back on earth where he trained Fletcher and other birds. He advised his students that ‘’everything that limits them they have to put aside. He couldn't stay any longer so he started practicing and attempting to fly higher and higher. Flying is the feeling of freedom. It's when you can do whatever you want, listen to your heart and follow your dreams. Flying is when you feel powerful and alive. In my life I've passed through a lot of times when flying away could be an option. Now, while we're in lockdown, a lot of people would choose to fly and some of them try it in so many different ways. Unfortunately, we can't fly. But that's not always negative. Staying on the ground makes you stronger and creates your character. Walking makes you appreciate flying a lot more. Even pilots are happy when they land on their destination. We have to be satisfied with what we have, however, always setting goals and chasing them. That's the only way to success and happiness. Appreciate your property and try to increase it legally. And don't forget, after your flight, teach others the way to fly, because company makes even the greatest better.

by Pelagia Trigoni

Dear Diary,

today I read the narrative version of a well known book called Jonathan Livingston Seagull. The story of the book is about a young seagull, which could not accept the standards given to him by his species and which always wanted to accomplish a lot more. While the rest of his flock only tried to find food, and lived a limited life, Jonathan would experiment flying in order to learn new methods, new techniques and surpass everything he was just expected or supposed to do. His determination made him ignore everyone telling him what to do, even when his own parents did not believe in him. And despite all the obstacles and the difficulties he made his dream come true. He managed to learn how to fly perfectly and even have students ready to learn from him. I was really impressed and touched by this story. It showed me how anyone is capable of achieving their goals even if no one supports them. It makes perfectly clear how hard work, determination and believing in yourself can bring you to success. By the simplest example the writer is trying to make us never give up on our goals and dreams and always do our best, and in that way we can make everything possible. It was a story I will always have in mind when I face any kind of obstacles in my life and let it remind me to never give up and always keep going.

A lot of kisses, your friend Pelagia

by Eleftheria Saide
Dear diary,
Many days ago I heard a narration from the book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". It is about a seagull who spent most of his days trying to fly and know what does he want to do in the air. Even though he went through failures he didn't stop trying until he made it. Well, I have to say that it gave a lot of inspiration and the message of this is that we should never give up on our dreams. My diary, everyone should be like Jonathan, a non-stop dream chaser. I hope this boosts everyone's confidence.
Bye bye, my diary!

by Xanthippi Panagiotidou

There was a blackbird sitting all alone and having dreams about it flying at great heights in order to travel all around the world. So it did. One day, while it was flying, a great noise by a thunder scared it and after that it didn’t want to fly ever again. After a long time, it decided to give a try at itself and fly again, which was completed with success. From then on, the blackbird was followed by a flock of birds and it was never alone.

by Eleni Karatzouli

Dear diary,

I know I haven’t written to you for a while now, but something happened today and I would like to share it with you. A friend of mine proposed to me to hear the narration of a story titled “Jonathan Livingston Seagull». The truth is that I am quite impressed by the story, even though it is simple one. It’s about a seagull, whose only dream was to fly while his family was only interested in finding food and surviving. So, Jonathan was feeling disappointed because of his life and started the efforts in order to fly. Despite the failures, the bird didn’t give up on its only true desire. Finally, Jonathan did it and felt free eventually! Without doubt this story is inspiring especially for young people who need to follow their dreams in spite of the difficulties and obstacles. I think that it would be useful for all of us to take into consideration this example of true effort and persistence. I hope I will become someone that sure and persistent concerning my dreams and plans.

A Lot of kisses my favorite thing on earth!

by Thanos Stergioulas

Phew! It’s been a long day. Homework to do, lessons to attend, you know. However I was able to finish an audio book I’ve started listening to a couple days ago. It’s named “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” and it’s about an outcast, a dreamer. Jonathan, the main character of the story, is a seagull that’s different from his flock. He wants to learn how to fly unlike the other seagulls that just care about surviving. They try to stop him and eventually kick him out from their flock. After learning about the possibilities of flight that defy the laws of nature he comes back to teach other outcasts and his flock how to truly fly. I really like this book because it showcases the struggle that people chasing their dreams face which is always kinda relatable. Also I found very interesting and inspiring Jonathan’s love for his flock despite what they’ve done to him and how tough teaching them was. This book is so philosophical and it really makes me think about life and my true fate, if there is such thing as fate. Goodnight!

It rested on the branches of a tree near the seaside and was watching the sunset. Its mind wondered why it was lonely. Why was he abandoned? Too much into its thoughts that were surrounding its mind he wondered where it all went wrong. Where were his friends? Where were his parents? And with the same thoughts surrounding its mind it fell asleep wondering when all this will stop. The next morning it woke up to a flock of birds flying in the sky. It looked up and said "Perhaps I should try to fly, at least once." The next thing it knew it was flying and finally it felt alive

It feels so lonely. Whenever I went to school I always saw that one blackbird sitting on the branches of our school, Ms.Tsironi told us that blackbirds couldn’t fly but they were great singers and so I always felt bad about it, why couldn’t it fly? What was so different about it that it couldn’t do such a common thing for birds? I mean aren’t all birds meant to fly?

This blackbird seemed to have something in common with me, we were both different from others. See, I was always getting picked on for the color of my skin and I always wondered what I was doing wrong? Why am I being judged because of my skin tone? Just because I didn’t have the same skin complexion with them didn’t mean they had absolutely any right to talk me down. Same goes for the blackbird, just because it can’t fly doesn’t mean it is worth any less than any other bird, sometimes being different is what makes you unique, or so that’s what Ms.Tsironi told me.

Being a person of color doesn’t make me any less of a worthy person, not being able to fly doesn’t mean the blackbird is useless, we are all human, they are all birds, that’s by far the most common thing we all have. My thoughts were interrupted when my mom stopped at our garage, giving me the sign to go back in my house so we could eat.

As I was getting out, I saw the same blackbird that was on our school’s tree branches, now sitting on my balcony’s table chirping cheerfully a nice melody, I smiled. Maybe not flying isn’t that bad after all.

Beautiful story, Marianna!!!

The entire night sky reflected crimson from the majesty of the all-dominating summer moon. Below a dispersed flock of clouds, the two youngsters searched with their blazing eyes throughout the dry olive orchard for something close to representing their hopes of the future. The overwhelming emptiness insisted on giving no awnsers to their burning hearts, their heated bodies. It was the love they held for each other, the ethereal bond that tied them together which finally summoned a response from the all-encompassing natural spirit. A black bird singing in the dead of night, a miracle. This was what they needed, what they desired in moving forward. Finally, the distant singing took form and appeared in front of them. This only encouraged the newfound understanding between the youngsters and the seemingly pathetic little creature, trying oh-so-desperately to deny its destiny. The world shouted at its ears, it threatened to chop off its ugly wings. You are not meant for this, return to your nest, seal your lips! But the impossible mental bond between the two entirely different species would not break now. You were only waiting for this moment to arise, fly blackbird fly! It was nature itself against two mere of its pawns, fighting to either make the blackbird bury or uncover its abilities. Suddenly, it disappeared. Maybe it was never actually there after all. But what it attempted, what it yearned to achieve, oh that was all there. It still is, waiting to appear, to defy, to change. This, in the end, is the strongest of them all.

There was once a lonesome blackbird sitting on the branch of a tree, sunken deep in its thoughts. It was concerned for what the future holds and whether it can truly be a beautiful creature of the night. All of a sudden it heard a majestic song in the vicinity, coming from a small green bird, it also carried a red scar on its belly, nonetheless, it seemed very proud and carefree. The singing bird took notice of the solitary and shy blackbird and approached it.

“Why are you sitting all by yourself my friend? Why aren’t you flying in the beautiful dark sky?”

“I have no idea of where I belong in this vast and endless night, I keep wondering where I must fly to, where my place is in this world and to be frank when I ask myself these kinds of questions I get very anxious and frustrated, maybe flying isn’t for me.”

“You fool take these broken wings that you have and learn to fly!, once you fly all of your problems will vanish.”

“ I guess it’s worth a shot, but it will end very badly.“

“My friend you’ve been waiting for this moment to arise, now do me a favour and just fly!”

Encouraged by the kind words of its fellow bird, the blackbird was now ready to finally fly. It took a moment for it to realize that it was in the air. Excitement, joy and adrenaline surged in its veins. It was curious to see what it couldn’t for so long. It thanked the green bird for enhancing its view of the world. They both said goodbye to one another and both went on their way. The green bird gazed one final time at the blackbird and said to itself : “ Blackbird fly, blackbird fly. Into the light of the dark night.”

The small bird was determined to try something that was spinning in its mind for a couple of weeks;since the day it saw some shallow birds crossing the endless blue above with their wings. On the other hand, it was feeling upset since it never had the opportunity to use its pair of wings; to learn how to fly.

As it started singing in the dead of night, it felt the urge to free itself from the prejudice that was keeping it behind; to be just a bird that had to survive by staying forever in that tree. The small bird turned its head to look at the moon, and spread its wings widely as if it was only waiting for this moment to arise. Then, it happened…

The little bird jumped off the tree into the light of the dark black night, and was flapping its wings at the sight of the moon. It never thought it was going to be that easy at first, yet it felt amazing. Until… before it was able to direct anywhere, it fell off. Scared to death, the small bird kept flapping as fast as it could. It wasn’t going to give up yet. This happened multiple times, thus it kept practicing more and more…

In the end, the blackbird’s dream finally came true (after a lot of practice) as it was flying gracefully across the sky, singing in joy and happiness…

                                                                                       THE END

Lovely story!!!

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Dear diary,
this afternoon I had one of the best book experiences ever and I thought I'd love to share it. I listened to the book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" narrated by Richard Harris. It touched my heart. Jonathan is a very special seagull. He has his own dreams, he does his best and he tries hard to make them come true. For him, flying doesn't mean "find food and survive", but "freedom". His parents, however, disagree with him and they are trying to make him feel guilty. Neither they believe in their son , nor they support him. Despite all difficulties, Jonathan doesn't give up and that is the point of the story. The writer is trying to persuade young people to follow their dreams, believe to themselves and work hard, so everything can be possible.
The story of this book made me think that obstacles enstrong people and offer them unique experiences. It also taught me that keep going against the wind is what matters in life.
Be like this seagull. Never give up.

Love, Dimitra

Recently, a friend of mine recommended me to hear the narration of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a young seagull with no ordinary desires. Unlike all the others seagulls that fight for food, Jonathan wasn’t interesting in finding food but he wanted to learn how flight perfectly. But instead of encouraging him both his parents and the others seagulls were mocking him for his dreams and for trying to do something different.

Dear diary,
A while ago I finished a book called ''Jonathan Living Seagull'' narrated by Richard Harris, which I think was very impressive. It depicts on the life of a seagull called Jonathan, who had a different perspective on life from the others. He believes that the word flying isnt meant for fighting about food and surviving, but about freedom. Despite the hardships he had to go through, he doesn't give up on his destiny which is learning to fly. The main point of the book is that, we shouldnt give up on what we love and we should be different from the others.

Your friend,
Marianthi

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Dear diary,

I know I haven't written to you for a while, but I didn't have the time. Today something special happened and I want to share it with you. A friend of mine recommended reading a book named "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach. The truth is that I am impressed by the story, even if it's a simple one.

First of all, the book tells the story of a seagull, who is bored with daily squabbles over food. Seized by a passion for flight, he pushes himself and learns everything he can about flying. His increasing unwillingness to conform finally results in his expulsion from the flock. Jonathan violates all the unwritten laws of nature - hangs in the air, flies low over the water and develops tremendous speed. He is trying to bring his flying skills to perfection.

I consider that "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" is a story with a profound message. The message is that we can all be so much more than we believe, or are given to believe if we try hard and do our best. That God - or fortune, is on the side of the bold, the adventurous and the free in spirit.

This book had a great impact on me and made me have greater faith in myself and try to fulfil my dreams.

Your friend,
Anna Maria

Dear Diary,

Hey its me again. I know that recently i have taken a break from keeping you updated on what’s going on in my life and im sorry. See, the hectic rythms of reality found a way to keep me busy most of the day. However, something happened this week that i am beyond excited to share with you. A close friend of mine suggested me reading a book called ‘’ Jonathan Livingston Seagull ‘’ by Richard Bach. To be honest, it’s been a while since i held a book in my hands. It felt like greeting an old friend. The story itself stood out to me mostly from its title. Was i going to really read about a seagull? Arent all of them the same?. Turns out i was greatly wrong. The book is all about Jonathan ,a seagull that does not engage himself with simple matters of food and quarrels with other gulls of the Flock he belongs. Instead, he practice harder and harder each day to accomplice his one goal. Flying. Go beyond any boundaries and reach the perfect speed. This results to him getting kicked out of the Flock with that not stopping him whatsoever. He makes new friends and also teaches flying to other gulls.

This book really made me finish it one sitting. The moment i put it down it helped me realise. All this time, i tried to much to be perfect by the means of the world forgetting that being perfect is being different and finding comfort in your own self. Also, it left me a great impact on friendship matters between Jonathan and Sullivan, with most memorable part being when Jonathan promises them to meet again when they will both overcome space and time.

Until we meet again,

Your friend,

Basileia.

Dear Diary,
It's been a very long time since I've written to you. So I'm coming back with great news. During this past week, I read an exciting book with the title "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". I didn't expect it to be so nice and meaningful.
In summary, the book was about a seagull named Jonathan, who constantly tried to learn to fly high up in the sky, while other seagulls were searching for food. His parents were a little disappointed watching their son refusing to find food or try to actually survive. Also, many other seagulls were laughing at him for trying effortlessly, as they thought. But one day, after so many tries, Jonathan managed to fly and he was really happy for it. He really felt free in the end.
So, as soon as I finished the book, I understood its message. By the story of Jonathan's dream to achieve his goal, I realized that nothing is impossible in life, if you really go for it and believe in yourself. And I think that, that's the exact point of the history-fighting for your dreams and never give up on your goals-because life is short and nothing is unachievable.
I'm so glad for sharing these news with you. I can't wait for the next time of writing to you such as exciting experiences as this one.

Kisses, Maria

Dear Diary,
I haven't written to you for a long time. I was very busy and I had too little time, but today there is a perfect opportunity to continue my old habit. Our teacher recommended us to read the book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach, and i have to admit that it was really exciting. In the beginning, i thought that it would be a very childish and boring book, mostly due to it's topic. I believed that a book about Seagulls wouldn't be interesting for me. But as soon as I understood it's symbolic meaning, I felt amused by the way the author tried to express himself about such a complicated matter. The main character, Jonathan, is very different from the other Seagulls. Jonathan's main concern isn't food or how to survive, his only goal is becoming perfect at flying. He has been marginalized and isolated from the rest of the Flock and the other seagulls are constantly teasing him. But in the end, he makes up flying, teaches other seagulls how to fly and makes new friends. Through this story, Bach tries to encourage young people to follow their dreams, and being persistent. That's something that really touched me, I really found this book amazing and deeply moving.
Your friend,
Dimitris

Dear Diary,

I wanted to tell you about a new book I read by Richart Bach author Jonathan Livingston Seagull tells the story of a seagull who, in the rest of his flock that is content to fight over food, loves to spend time experimenting. flight. The higher and faster he flies, the more his herd disapproves of his behavior. Even when Jonathan discovers a way to get better food, the herd will not listen to him. Eventually the herd chases him away and Jonathan lives a life of loneliness. At the end of the First Part, two "star gulls" appear and take him "home". He ascends to the dark sky and disappears.

In the second part, Jonathan thinks he is in paradise, but he is in a place that is very similar to the place he just left. His body shines and he can fly faster but he discovers that he still has limits. In this new place he is among gulls who share his passion for flying and even has a trainer. Jonathan learns how to handle space and time, "flying at perfect speed". He basically learns how to teleport and his instructor tells him to learn the meaning of kindness and love. Jonathan decides that he must return to his flock on Earth to see if there are any young seagulls that want to learn to fly like him. He returns and begins to teach a young gull that has been expelled from the herd. This place, I thought, is very reminiscent of the idea of the resurrection of Jesus.

In the third part, Jonathan acquires more and more faithful students and tries to teach them everything he learned from his previous teacher. However, he finds that his students are much more interested in practicing flight than in thinking about flying and what it means. They return to the herd and although they ignore them, they continue to practice. When Jonathan appears to be making a seagull's wing, allowing that seagull to fly, most of the flock comes to listen to Jonathan's teachings. Again, this is very reminiscent of Jesus' idea of healing a paralytic. The herd begins to fear and idolize Jonathan and Jonathan decides to leave and allow one of his students to continue teaching.

In Part Four, Jonathan's disciples continue his teachings, but eventually move on to the next life and become sacred figures for the flock. Fewer and fewer seagulls are interested in practicing flying, and more and more are interested in remembering what Jonathan said word for word. They call Jonathan's students "Big Seagulls" and Jonathan's "Divine Gull". As time goes on the herd begins to perform rituals and sermons to honor Jonathan and his disciples. Some in the herd are beginning to believe that Jonathan is just a myth and never really existed. At the end of Part Four, the majority of the herd no longer flies for fun, but a seagull flies, and as he experiments with the joy of flying, Jonathan appears for him and offers to teach him more.

I really enjoyed reading this myth, and every time I put it down, I found myself. There are many hidden meanings and metaphors everywhere and I think I will probably notice something new every time I read it again. Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a thought-provoking reading with a surreal, imaginative story.

And so as all the good things have an end I have to say goodbye to you also I promise when I read another book to know you will be the first to know.
Friendly Andronikos

Jonathan Leavingstone Seagull

Olympia Liakou

Dear Diary,

I recently found myself in a huge vintage bookstore full of books of any kind. I was holding my breath while searching for the perfect, interesting, new book to read during spring break. After some hours I found on the back of a dusty bookshelf a small book with a weird title “Jonathan Livingstone Seagull”. I instantly wondered “is this really about seagulls or does it have another meaning?” Without having another thought, I rushed to the cash register and bought it.

When I reached home, I ran into my room and started reading it. I don’t really know what time I finished it. A brow of contempt was formed on my face. I expected a more interesting plot, but it was an anticlimax. I didn’t like it at all. At the beginning of the story there was a seagull who wanted to fly high up in the sky, but because of the shape of his body and his wings he couldn’t achieve his goal. Despite the many failures he kept trying again and again till he managed to fly without falling like a feather bomb in the sea. During all his time of practicing he didn’t care about things gulls usually do and infringed the rules of the Flock, that’s why he lived as an outcast.

I can’t imagine what person does not care about food and life. Everybody in his life does anything possible in order to make a living. I do not understand why the seagull in the book did not care about food, about the most important thing gulls need in order to survive. I think that this is something reckless, because if he doesn’t try to find food, he won’t be able to continue being alive.

I am sure that I spent my whole evening reading something pointless and useless. I highly do not recommend it to anybody. In my opinion it is a book different from the ones I’m used to reading, because it is an allegory.

Unfortunately, my dear diary I have to go now, cause I spent my whole afternoon reading this book. A friendly advice to myself: DON’T EVER READ A BOOK AGAIN, IF IT DOES NOT HAVE A MINI SUMMARY ON THE BACK COVER

He wants to find something new and more meaningful things. Even if he faces many obstacles in achieving his dream, he still walks on his way.

By using seagull, Bach tried to relate it with human being and how people deal with their life. Sometime they are faced to a problem, whether to follow their deep desires or society opinion. Some people may succeed and some are not...

We all need to explore our passion and develop it through hard work just like Jonathan the Seagull did. This is what I keep!

Good night my dear💗

Dear diary

I know that lately I don't write to you. That's because i am very busy with school and I don't have very much free time. However, today after reading one of the best bookS that I have read, I knew that I had to write to you. The book is called Johnathan Livingston seagull and it's a book about a seagull who wants to perfect flying. However, he doesn't have the approval of the flock because he is different. Even though his flock puts him in exile, he still remains happy, because he learned how to fly in many different ways. And that is, in my opinion, the main point of the book. It means that in life you are free and that, if you have purpose, you can do anything even though some people make fun of you. From now on that is the rule that I will live by. Now I have to go. I will talk to you later.

Bye

Dear diary,
It's been a while since I have written something in here. The reason why I am writing to you right now, is because I found a book called '' Johnathan Livingstone seagull '' in my mum's bookcase, written by Richard Bach.
Judging it by the cover it didn't really make a big impression on me. But when I opened the first page of the book, I saw that it was dedicated to my mum by my grandmother. It said '' Believe in yourself and keep dreaming ''. After that, I had to read it.
The plot was about a seagull, Jonathan Livingstone, who desired to fly high up in the sky. He wanted to be different from the other seagulls which were only interested in finding food to survive. Jonathan couldn't live an ordinary life, he couldn't follow the same boring daily routine. His ambition was to be independent and to do what the others couldn't do. His behavior caused much disapprovement and mocking from his friends and parents, but it didn't put him down. Although he nearly killed himself in the process, he kept trying and in the end, he managed to fulfill his goal.
The message is that he shouldn't follow the trends of society, we ought not comply and give in. We have to stand by our beliefs, our future ambitions, our dreams.
That's all for now dear diary. Can't wait to get my hands on another amazing book.
Yours Elena

Dear dairy,

It’s really been a while since I wrote something here, isn’t it? Being busy with school and stuff can do that to a person, I guess. So, to begin with, days ago I was given a special present by a special friend; a book called Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach. At first, I have to admit that I had never heard about that novel before and I became more confused when I was told that it was about an actual seagull! So, I read it...

It is a wonderful novel about the meaning of dreams and independence in someone’s life. Jonathan, the main character of the story, pictures the life of someone who is considered different-in Jonathan’s case by his family members- just because he is trying to achieve his dreams in an environment of prejudice and restriction. Jonathan taught me that regardless of what others may think about you, you should always follow your heart and focus on your goals.

Personally, I think that it is an amazing story, but unfortunately, I lost the book a few days after I finished reading it. I hope I’ll find it soon and I really hope my friend doesn’t find out that I lost her book. Yours,

                                                                          Eurydice

Excellent!!!

Dear diary,
I know its been a while since i last wrote to you, but recently i finished a book called "Jonathan Living Seagull" and i decided to tell you my impressions of it.The book is about a seagull named Jonathan that feels like it does not have any purpose of living based on his boring daily routine. It does not even know how to fly like the other flock of seagulls and it is left wandering alone. That does not let it give up and tries even harder to achieve its goal and after a long time of practising it finally learned how to fly. This book relates to humans too convincing them not to give up their goals so they can reach their limits knowing they tried hard enough.I agree with the perspective of the book and i will try to enforce this rule in my life too.Thats all for now!

Yours,
Vaggelis

Dear diary,
Even though i have a lot of things to do during the day, i feel the need to express my personal point of view about a book called '' Jonathan Leavingstone Seagull. Firstly, taking into conideration the book cover, i think that everyone would be discouraged for dedicating their free time in orfer to pay attention to the details of the book. But having anything better to do, i took the initiative and started reading it. Turning the pages, i realized it was a bird that it cannot find the way to achieve his ulterior goal, which it was how to fly, due to his body shape. Jonathan, instead of giving up and accepting the fact that he didnt have the ability to make his dream come true, he put his disappointment into motive, by overcoming the potential difficulties and focusing on what makes him happy and proud of himself.
I totally believe that the writer try to sensitize the human being with a both effective and unique way ( PRESENTING SOMEONE THAT HE IS DETERMINED TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY AND FOLLOWING HIS STEPS, RATHER THAN COMPLAINING AND STAY AWAY OF HIS DREAMS). So, as Jonathan very well proved, we have to create a decisive character that nobody could ever change our minds and ambitions. Life is a road full of obstacles and unexpected falls, in which we have to learn how to deal with everyday problems, create the appropriate mentality and most of all believe in our capabilities.
P.S. : BEHIND A STRONG PERSONALITY, THERE IS SOMEONE WHO TURNS THE BAD DAYS INTO FUEL IN ORDER TO BE IN THE POSITION HE WANTS IN THE FUTURE. WHAT I CAN SAY FROM MY OWN PERSPECTIVE, IS THAT IT IS PREFERABLE NOT TO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER, BUT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE GENERAL IDEA

At first I thought it was really weird but soon I found out that the story has a deeper meaning. Jonathan is a really brave seagull that focuses on what makes him happy and overcomes his difficulties no matter what . He didn't give up and he chose to follow his own path. He put his appointment and sadness into motive to do something that makes him happy and proud. The story is so much more than just a seagull it's about dreams and independence and I think that that's important

Book review
The Hobbit

The Hobbit is considered one of the most influential books in the fantasy fiction genre, as it introduces the reader to an entirely unique world, named Middle Earth, full of mythical creatures like Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Hobbits, Trolls and giant eagles, while it unfolds an outstanding tale of an unexpected and thrilling journey. Written by J.R.R. Tolkien, professor at Oxford University and renowned academic and scholar, The Hobbit was published at 1937 for the first time. The work has never been out of print. Its ongoing legacy encompasses many adaptations for stage, screen, radio, board games, and video games.

The story revolves around Bilbo Baggins, a respectable and home-loving hobbit- a species resembling that of gnomes- who starts a quest to the Lonely Mountain after meeting a wizard, named Gandalf the Grey. In this quest he will face many dangers such as huge spiders, mountain Trolls and a dragon. His main goal is to reach the dragon’s lair and help a company of Dwarves retrieve stolen by the dragon. Bilbo is small and does not possess massive strength or magical abilities, so he appears unequipped for such a journey. However, throughout the story he gains wisdom and maturity by putting his wits and common sense in use and overcoming many dangers, aiding his friends and himself.

Much can be said about professor Tolkien’s use of language to introduce the dream-like world of Middle Earth to the reader and making him anxious when the heroes are in peril and feel amazed by the descriptions of breathtaking locations, like Riverdale or the Shire. He has created characters that stick to mind and are kept forever in the hearts of the readers. Characters like the wise and old wizard, Gandalf, the bold and daring Dwarf-king, Thorin Oakenshield and the horrifying and powerful dragon Smaug. Over the years, Tolkien has added books upon books of lore in his fictional universe, like the epic trilogy of The Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion. The Hobbit alone, is an excellent example of Tolkien’s style of writing, having been called “the father of high fantasy literature”.

The book is appealing to all ages and can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Its simplicity makes it great for young readers, while its adventure, mystery and action themes make it a great choice for adults, proving its timelessness. All in all, it is an amazing book and I believe it should be introduced to everyone.

Excellent!!

He has already confessed to two heinous murders of children, but is now held in the maximum security ward of a psychiatric hospital and refuses to talk.

Max's father, Till, is left with only one way to finally learn the truth: He must dive into the bowels of Hell and become an inmate himself with the use of a fake medical record. This leaves the reader with doubts on who is who.

The story puts you off a little, but not enough to put it down.

In the heart of a bustling city, amidst the towering skyscrapers and the constant hum of traffic, there lived a solitary blackbird named Midnight. With feathers as dark as the night sky and eyes that gleamed like stars, Midnight found solace in the quiet corners of the urban jungle.

Every morning, before the sun cast its first light upon the city, Midnight would soar above the rooftops, his melodious song piercing through the early morning stillness. His music carried a hint of melancholy, a reflection of the city's hustle and bustle that often drowned out the beauty of life.

One day, as Midnight perched on a lamppost, he noticed a young girl sitting on a bench in the park below. She wore a sorrowful expression, her eyes filled with tears that mirrored Midnight's own sadness. Intrigued, Midnight fluttered down and landed beside her.

"Why are you crying, little one?" Midnight asked, his voice soft and gentle.

The girl looked up, surprised to see a talking blackbird. "I miss my grandmother," she replied, her voice trembling with emotion. "She used to sit with me here in the park and tell me stories. But now she's gone, and I feel so alone."

Midnight understood the pain of loss all too well. He had lost his own family long ago, and the memories still haunted him. But he also knew the power of companionship and the healing balm of friendship.

With a flutter of his wings, Midnight began to sing. His song was unlike anything the girl had ever heard before. It was a song of hope and resilience, a melody that spoke of love and loss, and the beauty of life's journey.

As Midnight sang, the girl's tears slowly dried, replaced by a sense of peace and comfort. She smiled through her sorrow, grateful for the unexpected gift of the blackbird's song.

From that day on, Midnight and the girl became inseparable companions. They would spend their days exploring the city together, sharing stories and laughter, and finding solace in each other's company.

And though Midnight's wings were bound to the earth, his spirit soared higher than ever before, buoyed by the power of friendship and the enduring beauty of the human heart.
