Share your favorite ways to use AI in the designated sections. Write a little about what you do and its benefits for you. Include a link to a specific tool when appropriate. There’s also a section to debate the ethical merit of AI, and how we can balance our educational obligations to prepare our learners with the ethical use of a problematic technology.

At the ASTE conference one of the keynote speakers showed us how school AI can be used with students using the example of a class working on a science fair project idea. We were students and were able to chat with AI within that platform to pick a science fair topic. My partner and I chose gardening and then decided to show interest in growing marijuana plants. School AI guided us to the legalities of that and led us to other options. The teacher (speaker) was able to be informed of what we all were doing with positive or negative reactions to help her guide us and keep us all on track. I have not explored it more, but School AI seems like it could be a great tool for students to use with built in guidance.

A shortcut can save time, or it can rob us of a valuable struggle. So much of education is creating valuable struggle. Having students identify which struggles bring gifts and which ones just cost time might need to be part of this education for them. No, I don't have all the answers for how to get kids to internalize these ideas. Or adults, for that matter. I mean, I seem to really like doing hard things for very little money, apparently... Am I a relic now? Is it hopeless?

Many student apps have AI components even our google searches do now. I was just looking into Beanstack and they have an AI reading accountability buddy that students can talk to and he will evaluate if they are actually reading and comprehending the book they are logging minutes for.

I have seen students paste a reading passage into ai and change the reading level so that they can understand it better.

I feel like we have opened Pandora's box and will never be able to go back and that makes it very important for me to teach student personal and community responsibility, how to sus out fake news, and how to verify their research. I think teaching them to navigate what is out there and what it means for their future is where I want to camp for a while.
