You can use your flashlight by pretending to be a firefly! Flash it on in off in a pattern you see while you are outside. Aim it at the sky and not directly at the fireflies so you don't scare them off.
You can also use your light to help you see at night to catch the fireflies. When doing this, you should flash fast so you don't scare them away. (Try watching the "GLOW BUGS! - How to Build a Lightning Bug Lantern for an example). You can consider using blue paper or cellophane to be taped over your flashlight. Fireflies can't see blue, so they will not be scared away.

You can try catching fireflies as soon as the sun sets and put them in a jar! Then go out later in the evening and catch more to put in the jar. You may notice the first ones you caught glow more green, while the fireflies you catch later in the night will glow yellow!
