With factories and mills, Americans were able to create larger industries in shorter periods of time and develop clothing, tools that helped workers improve upon their work, and the high-pressure steam engine that was adaptable to complete a large variety of industrial needs. One example could be Oliver Evans, who developed the high-pressure steam engine in 1804. His steam engine was capable of powering ships, sawmills, printing presses, and textile factories. His steam engine allowed people to complete tasks more efficiently and therefore gain more profits for the user.
