These are from some of the plants in my garden. I just arranged them to add colour and brightness. The plants in my garden attract so many birds and other wildlife and that brings happiness to me as I sit and watch them fly around and enjoy the benefits of the gardens. So whilst the flowers and plants look lovely they are also helping to keep the wildlife alive and well.

WHAT? I am slowly collecting things that I can use. It's actually been a really rough couple of weeks for me. My son had a very bad dirt bike accident which resulted in a totally broken in half wrist, a fractured T1 vertebrae and a chipped hip bone. With that and the recent floods, yes we have been affected, but not too bad on our property, it has been chaotic to say the least. So my what is just gathering right now and trying to get my head sorted into some sort of artistic, creative way.
SO WHAT? I have had some ideas around my creation but not enough to create just yet. I need to go back and reread the Wallace model to be able to somehow gain some focus on my ideas.
NOW WHAT? Well get creative is pretty much the key!!!

heart_outline

1

comment_outline

1

Katie Burke

3mo

Hi Bec, you've done amazingly just to post something here! You're actually right in the thick of the "preparation" phase, gathering the materials and thinking of ways that you might use it. This is really important, and my own experience showed me how important allowing time for creative thinking can be in providing a "way forward". Remember also, family comes first, so if study has to fall behind for a bit - that is what has to happen! You might consider applying for an extension to take off the pressure too, given that circumstances outside your control were a big factor in your life.

My animation is showing how recycling waste in the garden can help the environment by breaking down and helping things to grow. The flowers then attract creatures like butterflies and bees. These creatures then go on to help other flowers to bloom. The life cycle then continues.
I really struggled with the last two weeks as I am not a very creative person. I had issues with the music as well.
Instead of using paint and purchased glue, I used food colouring and made my own glue as it is better for the environment.
Whilst my diorama is not great, I feel this exercise could be fun with a whole class and could also be crossed over into science and life cycles.

heart_outline

0

comment_outline

1

Katie Burke

2mo

Hi Bec, I was really interested to read that you see yourself as "not creative", because this moving artwork suggests that you are indeed creative! I love how you told the story using items you had, that you added really suitable and powerful music (I didn't even do that!) and you even thought about sustainable ways of colouring the paper items. So, I hope that this helps you to not only consider opportunities for the classroom, but also to help you see your own personal creativity. It's there! You just need to let it flourish (like the flowers in your animation)!

Kardinsky's 1923 "Circles in a circle" gives me a feeling of being busy. For instance, the large circle is the space with which the family unit fits inside of. The smaller circles are the individual family members. The circles on the outer are of members that live further away, whilst the ones in the middle are of members who live closer. The larger black circle to me represents the family member that hold everyone together. Being circular gives me the feeling of life being busy and just continuing to go around and around.
When recording my voice I started fast and then slowed down to enhance that we need to sometimes slow down in life and catch up with our loved ones.

Attached is a copy of my graphic score. It made sense to me last night but I am just as confused now as I was yesterday afternoon. I found this to be rather difficult and now my head hurts, :).
I attempted to do it a few times and found it challenging. I also had my 14 year old son attempt it. We had some fun and laughs.
It is safe to say that I will never be a music teacher.
The most challenging part was integrating music with math.
I am unsure if I have completed this task correctly and encourage positive feedback.

heart_outline

0

comment_outline

3

Katie Burke

11d

Well done (Bec?) on persevering! I can see that some corrections are required to ensure that each "bar" adds up to 1 whole. It just goes to show that this task is really tricky, and I think that teaching it in person would be much easier than online. So, if you add up the various fractions in each line or bar, they should add up to one whole. Therefore, the first line should probably have a 1/2 where you have 1. The second line should again have 1/2 where you have a quarter.

Katie Burke

11d

The third line is spot on, and the fourth line should have 1.4 where you have 1/2. This will ensure that each line equals one. I hope that makes sense! I've really reflected on my teaching of this and see ways for me to improve it! For example, instead of putting each beat as a circle, I'm going to put it as parts of a pie next time. That should help us to see how the beats add up to form one "whole".

Anonymous

1d

Thank you Katie. I didn't think that I had it correct, but confused myself even more whilst I tried to fix it. Bec

more_vertical

Green Tree Frog dance

I chose the Australian Green Tree Frog as they are common in our area and I feel that many of the children would have seen one in their lives.

Tree Frogs prefer cool, dark places. They have a habit of taking up residence in and around suburban houses, in drain pipes, water tanks, letterboxes and even toilet bowls.

Frogs are nocturnal and they are often found around lit areas that attract various types of bugs and insects to them.

Frogs are more often heard than seen. Only males call but both sexes may give shorter warning calls or screams when danger threatens.

In regards to the dance, students would be dressed in all green. On the "stage" there would be drain pipes, a letter box and water tanks, all made by the students. Students would be hiding in these items and as the light dims (night approaching) they would slowly come out of their hiding spots. There is a window with a lamp shining through it and there are bugs (moths) sitting on the window. As frogs walk more than jump, the students will slowly crawl to the window, stopping from time to time and wipe their eyes with one hand at a time. (I have witnessed the frogs at my house doing this.) As they approach the window they will then jump fast to catch a bug and then sit waiting, looking, finding more bugs, then jump again. The lamp then gets turned off and the frogs are just sitting. The light is then turned up slowly (sunlight approaching) and the frogs slowly move back to their hide out holes to sleep the day away.

This task took a bit of thought, but then I took some time to think about how I have seen the frogs here behave.

I found this task interesting.

I feel that this is an engaging way to integrate HaSS and Drama and that students would defiantly benefit from learning this way.

Most of these drama experiences are rather impromptu and may be a little daunting at first, however I believe that after being done a few times the students would get over their fears and nerves and would become very involved.
