The end of the 2020 school year was like none I had ever experienced. The beginning of the 2020/21 school year was equally monumental as we worked to meet state and federal guidelines for health and safety while also adequately programing for students in the least restrictive environment. This lead to much discussion, trial and error, and proactive learning. This course would help to continue with that ongoing focus of providing remote learning, as needed, via remote, which has proved effective.  Being able to navigate best practices when preparing for remote, hybrid, and/or in-person teaching and learning is highly appropriate, needed, and welcomed.
By the end of this course, I hope to become more proficient in programing for students regardless of setting while promoting student gains and effectiveness of approach and curriculum. I also want to be a support for students and staff as they work with students in meeting both programming and individual goals.

I have the goals to not understand understand it through student's eyes but also teachers. As a school counselor I have many roles and one is to be able to collaborate with instructors. Seeing their perspective will help me advocate for them if need be. Another goal I have is to learn best practices for students in an environment that they may not be comfortable in but also may be too comfortable in. It is easy to lose motivation online learning and I want to be able to motivate my students to have insight to/reach their potential.

I am hoping to add a lot more to my "tool kit" in terms of technology and ways of engaging students in a remote setting. I think it will be beneficial to take a step back and reflect on what worked in the remote setting, what didn't, and strategize in a proactive (rather than reactive) way as to how to best meet the needs of students in this setting. Everything that was done over the last 1+ year was reactionary and without enough training. It will be refreshing to look at these resources without feeling the pressure of needing to implement them immediately.

Over the past year , I have enjoyed connecting with students digitally as well as creating the activities that use technology to help students learn. I want to learn more about making lessons that include more elements of effective lessons with objectives and assessments. I also hope to be able to help teachers continue an online presence for their classroom.

The first module alone has been an eye-opening experience.
