By keeping an active lifestyle and relatively healthy diet, my bones, arteries and muscles will keep strong and healthy. Encouraging others of all ages to do this same will have a longer lasting impact on the older generations. I will do this through encouraging my students to get their parents and grandparents, aunties and uncles, involved in active challenges, such as walking, cycling or even running certain distances throughout different weeks and months of the year. This will bring not only the family together in some friendly competition, but will increase levels of activity in all ages. Educating my students on healthy, active lifestyles and diets for all ages, not just their own, may help with their older generations knowledge and understanding.

Encouraging the older generation to keep active as they get older is key as it promotes a much healthier life and better chances of living longer. Activity and a good diet reduces the chances of so many diseases and mobility issues that significantly affect the older generation. Another thing to promote is the use of social groups and frequent visits to see family as social isolation and depression are increasing in the elderly and can lead to early death. The constant need for support and reassurance is so important and as healthcare professionals it is our job to ensure the elderly know all the options and everything they can do to improve their health and lifestyle.

I think it is important for everyone to stay active and positive, following conversations with some of my family members daily activities whether it be a 5 minute walk to the shops for a paper or a bike ride, any form of activity and exercise can make the best difference to both their physical and mental health. when working in a school we could support older people for students that may be living with grandparents, whether it be providing extra support for students returning home or making social situations in schools such as parents evenings can be accessible to everyone.
