With a great sense of satisfaction and gratitude this course has come to an end. What I really liked were the various aspects of culture and internationalization offered. Following the example of the creation of “modern” Guadeloupe one may wonder what we can learn from that in a rapidly changing Europe. What I have definitely learnt here is that when you are open to understand and welcome other cultures, you also have to know where you yourself come from. What are my traditions, cultural background etc. In addition, everyone should respectfully embrace their own identity and yet do their utmost to find common grounds with people for other cultures.

A number of aspects of the course were not new to me as I have had over 20 years of experience designing projects and setting up student exchanges. However, taking into account what I mentioned above, a slight, yet important change will take place.

What I would suggest Rita, the course leader, to consider is to incorporate the view of non-westerners, why not Philip??, since the focal point of internationalization, funded by Erasmus is of course very western. The world entirely of course, is not.

For me the organizational side of the project was perfect from the beginning. Our host Rita was always in contact and the tasks before going to Guadeloupe were very helpful for knowing our course members a little bit before we actually met. The same impression for the time we spent in Guadeloupe. Rita was always helping us with our questions and worries.

The course exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Before this course I´d never been in a training where there are the useful lessons, studying, experiencing, analyzing and reflecting so well planned into fun activities.

For me, the strengths of the course were:

· Well planned activities and smooth moving between subjects

· Unforgettable experiences

· Analyzing yourself

· Finding my personal and cultural identity and after that diving into the local culture through experience

· Our host and team members

· Different work places

· Discussions

· The materials and work we are going to take home with us

Rita could talk about everything that surrounded us, wherever we were. So the work she had done before hosting us was very remarkable

The only thing I could think of is maybe I would have liked to know beforehand what the traditional cuisine here is. But I’m ready to try new things, so almost everything was very delicious and it comes down to my personal preferences. Trying to live without the three CCC-s, and feels much better. Thanks, Rita!

The advise for a future participant would be, if possible, come one or two days earlier to get used to the time difference. Secondly bring a sun cream and anti-mosquito spray. You don’t need anything warm or long-sleeved, except a raincoat. If possible, for accommodation choose a bangalo. They are very nice, private and comfortable.

Going to miss Guadeloupe!
Mariann

Everything was well organized. The local nature and culture was skillfully tied to the course. There was good balance between group work and independent work. It was useful giving feedback every evening. It gave opportunity to rethink the information and discussions of the day. The content was very useful, well presented and structured.

Thank You so much for this experience, Rita!
