respect comes naturally

Where I’m from I wake up to the sounds of pots and pans rattling on a weekend

I wake up to the smell of a nice warm meal waiting for me

Where I’m from I hear my dad lecture me about the same things knowing I need to fix it

I hear and remember, but still is repeated knowing that it’s only helping

Where I’m from Thanksgiving is like no other

All different types of dishes and people I don’t even know

Different foods that really aren’t supposed to be given on Thanksgiving

Where I’m from baseballs were always hit; anywhere

Now I find them everywhere

Where I’m from criticism comes from love not hatred

Where I’m from nothing can beat my family’s connection

I too have been nuked by a classmate,

I too have been embarrassed by it. 

Tomorrow, 

I will work on it

I will do better, I will strike him out.

After,

I too will go celebrate with teammates,

I too will make my parent proud, 

I too will be happy.
