"They should've arrested the builder for cutting those down. They massacred the neighborhood. [Lost] More and more I think of those days, Linda. This time of year it was lilac and wisteria. And then the peonies would come out, and the daffodils. What fragrance in this room!" (Miller 7).

When Willy says this, I notice a mindset that wouldn't set someone up for a happy life. Rather than finding something to appreciate about his current circumstances or taking action to change them, Willy instead imagines the past and how many things were 'better' then compared to the present. As the video "The Tail End" said, our lives are progressing along further and further every day; we only have a limited time to make life into what we want it. Instead of constantly focusing on how things used to be, Willy would likely be better off pushing himself toward a more positive mindset OR deciding to leave the neighborhood that has changed so much.

“Figure it out. Work a lifetime to pay off a house. You finally own it, and there’s nobody to live in it”(Miller 4).

When Willy says this it shows how he only sees the negatives in this situation instead of focusing on the positives. Willy is very close to paying off his house which is a big moment in life. Also his two sons are both home for the first time in a long time which should he very exciting for him. Although instead of cherishing this moment and being happy, he somehow finds a way to make the situation negative. This mindset is one that people should avoid.

“I don’t want change! I want Swiss cheese. Why am I always being contradicted?”(Miller 6).

Linda was just trying to do something nice for Willy and change things up with a new type of cheese. Even though it is something so little as getting a new cheese to try Willy still gets really mad when it is clearly not necessary. This shows how Willy is always stressed and is a very negative person most of the time. Therefore this quote communicates a mindset that one should avoid.

“What the hell am I doing, twenty eight dollars a week! I’m 34 years old, I oughta be makin’ my future”(Miller 11).

Right before this quote he was talking about how much he enjoyed working on the farm and went in to detail about how it made him happy. Although the influence from his father made him feel he has to make a change. This is not a good mindset to have, because you don’t have to be rich to be happy.

“Bernard can get the best marks in school, y’understand, but when he gets out in the business world, y’understand, you are going to be five times ahead of him”(Miller 20).

There are other ways to find success other than school but that doesn’t me school isn’t important. Getting good grades in School shows people that one can do hard work and is hardworking. In this quote Willy communicates a mindset that one should avoid. Just being well liked is going to get you very far. Being well liked can help but if you aren’t willing to work not many people will want to do business with you. This is reflected through Willy’s life because even though he is well liked he isn’t very successful with business.

“You know why he remembered you don’t you? Because you impressed him in those days”(Miller 84).

The relationship between Biff and Willy has a sense of fake belonging. Willy values biff for what he used to be and what he thinks Biff is like and what he wants him to be like. Although biff wants to be valued for what he actually is.

“This is Miss Francis, Biff, She’s a buyer. They’re painting her room. Go back, miss Francis , go back”(Miller 94)

In this quote Willy lies to Biff about who Miss Francis really is, and tries to deny that he is having an affair with her. In this moment Willy should have been more open and told Biff the truth. If he did this I think it would’ve made both Biff and Willy more happy in the long run.
