Prior to the cyclone, hundreds of people were forced to evacuate what is called "vulnerable" areas, by the 9th of March and other areas were provided with materials such as sandbags to reduce damage and floods.
Trees had to be cut down to reduce damage.

Queensland
The damage in Queensland added up to $5.3 million AU.

Northern Territory
On the 11 march, 4000 people were told to evacuate to higher ground, 1,500 aborigines evacuated to shelter and 300 residents were evacuated. The damage in NT was significant as due to high tides, there was localised flooding is coastal areas. Up to 30 houses suffered severe damage including in some cases losing their rooves. 300 residents were evacuated. Homes and schools were destroyed. Damages here added up to $5 million.

Western Australia
Some roads/highways were closed for up to 36 hours. "Faraway Bay" in Northeast Kalumburu was demolished by the cyclone and several boats were found up to 100 metres inland

In Queensland, workers had no choice but to cut down trees to reduce the amount of damage.  

In the Northern territory, multiple trees were drowned. Most trees were leveled by huge wind gusts up to 290km/h. There were also cases where they fell on buildings.

In Western Australia, Large areas of forest was completely wiped out by the devastatingly destructive cyclone.

In the end, Cyclone Ingrid had a devastating effect on the environment   as it caused not only trees to fall on buildings and homes but also for them to be cut down to reduce the level of impact on the communities.

In far North Queensland, hundreds of people who were living in "vulnerable" areas were told to evacuate to shelters by the 9 March 2005.

In the Northern Territory, (Melville Island) 1,500 Aboriginal Residents were told to evacuate to shelters located through the island. And on Crocker Island, another 300 residents evacuated to shelter before the storm hit.

Tropical cyclones are formed by  several thunderstorms and a warm body of water.

It started with a low pressure system (meaning that it was windy and rainy) north of the Gulf of Carpentaria. It then officially developed into a Tropical Cyclone on 6 March 2005.

Description

Then it developed into a category rating of 5 by 8 March, 2005.The cyclone then reached the far northern coast of Queensland on 10 March 2005,
between 6 am and 9 am. 

After passing Weipa in Queensland, it gained force again as it moved to the Northern Territory.

Cyclone Ingrid then weakened as it moved inland, and then completely disappeared.
