My name is Yahir Farias. I am 19 years old and this is my first semester attending Compton college. I was born and raised in Lynwood, CA.

Who do I pretend to be?

I Pretend to be the best version of myself mentally and physically even though I know I'm not I try my best to believe what I'm doing is the right path for me and my career however I can admit I can try harder.

Who do people think I am?

Honestly I don't know what people may think of who I am but I try my best not to worry about it since in life the only person who can make a change and affect myself is me.

Who do I wish I could be?

I wish I can be the person who doesn't worry what others think and never loses hope or motivation to achieve their goal academically or just through life.

How has race or ethnic identity played a role in any of these responses?

I feel like now people are more judgmental towards my race/ethnicity because of the current president and how because of the president more hatred is shown towards my race/ethnicity.

What was your first experience with race?

My first experience with race was being called a "beaner".

How old were you

I was 10 years old.

What emotions do you associate with the experience?

At the time I was confused about the word because it's not often the word is thrown out and I wasn't aware how a word could have so much hatred.

Have you ever talked about the experience?

No I ignored the situation because I thought if I'd react it'd be giving the word power over me.

How have your early experiences with race shaped your worldview?

I realized how separated people really were and some still are just because we don't look the same or come from the same background.

I believe that a person who has a negative sense of self can not have a positive sense of ethnic identity. The reasoning behind this is due to the matter of being poorly treated based upon your identity and how this can impact one's mental ability to act or control their self esteem.

I believe a person who is more aware of their cultural background and history can be more positive regardless of the hatred towards them. I feel like they can be grateful for who they are and encourage others to do the same. This can also motivate those who are impacted by negative events to never lose hope and keep achieving their goals.

I believe the spirit of Ubuntu is still alive and used today. the reasoning why is many African Americans learned to stick out for one another especially in hard times. African Americans learned that they need to help each other out in order to improve in life and show an example a great example would be the BLM movement as this shows working together like a family makes you stronger.

African and African American culture relate due to their praise in the spirit of Ubuntu whether if its through prayers or actions.

This changed my worldview since it showed me everyone should help each other instead of judging one another since the only way we can move forwards is with each other.

Theme 2:

I see African Americans as very spirited, this is because many African Americans seek to better their life, their home, their family, and their friends. An example would be the famous streamer Kai Cenat he chose to spend his wealth to provide for communities in help not only in American but also in Africa.

Inclusive metaphysical epistemology is the least present due to the outdated learning and spreading of the word.

Theme 3: Imani relates with me since I use it all the time without Imani many people would not have a reason why they may be in in this world it gives us a reason as to why we exist and this relates to the African American community since they have had faith in one another for years. An example would be Martin Luther King Jr he had faith the world would one day be equal and no one would be treated unfairly.

2. A lot of stereotypes have to do with one's intelligence, like claiming someone is well-spoken, which is more of a backhanded compliment.

3. African Americans can be affected in terms of economic status, discipline, and healthcare. Black women have the highest maternal mortality rates, as they are not taken seriously when it comes to medical concerns.

4. These theories affect one's sense of self belonging, self esteem, and acceptance for their ethnic roots.

5. This resource demonstrates how microaggressions can be roleplayed as a real-life scenario; useful for work or school training.

6. Avoid being confrontational; instead be direct with someone and address the issue with what they may have said that could be seen as a microaggression.

7. Something that stood out to me was how many factors can contribute to one's sense of self.

The strengths that Black neighborhoods and communities have are resilience, creativity, faith, entrepreneurship, and collective care. These strengths have manifested the ability to survive systemic injustices and lead to the Black communities thriving, and leading.

WEAKNESSES: What are the weaknesses of Black neighborhoods and communities and state one solution to an issue you have raised?

The weakness that consist within the Black neighborhoods and communities are lack of resources required to proceed in life. Education inequality, schools in many Black communities are underfunded and overcrowded.

OPPORTUNITIES: What are three ways in which Black neighborhoods and communities could play a role in the progressive movement of the Black community?

Black neighborhoods and communities can organize politically, invest in education, and build economic strength.

THREATS: What are three ways in which Black neighborhoods and communities could have a detrimental effect on the progressive movement of the Black community?

Ways Black neighborhoods and communities can begin to have detrimental affects can be believing in internalized stereotypes this can weaken unity and make it harder for the community to progress. Economic disinvestment and dependency on external systems for example when neighborhoods lack local businesses or ownership, it limits economic self determination and the ability to fund or sustain progressive movements from within the community. Community fatigue and distrust of leadership when residents don't have a role model to look up to it can make it harder to progress due to the lack of motivation.

The most important thing that I've learned from the units readings is how important it is for everyone to support each other and invest into each others communities or help in any way you can in order to improve our local businesses.

The portrayal of African American women as property in media affects the psyche of those seeing the images and the African American woman's dating prospects by damaging their self image and mental health which may lower their self esteem.

This can increase the biases that impact dating prospects and desirability.

   The factors that can lead to single Black unmarried females can be the increase in education, economic, and social factors which in women decrease the pool in which they can find a partner.

There is a stigma in the African American community for various reasons most importantly the cultural expectation in masculinity which prevents Black males in supporting or involvement with the LGBTQ community.
