         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Dolores Clara Fernández Huerta (born April 10, 1930)</div><div>-She is a civil rights activist and labor leader. </div><div>-Her and Cesar Chavez are co-founders of the National Farmworkers Association. </div><div>-Chavez and Huerta has the same goals of improving wages and lives of farm workers. </div><div>-She started advocating when she was in high school, because of how she was treated. </div><div>-She was determined to bring change to society, by encouraging cultural diversity.</div><div>-She has received many awards, such as the Presidential Medal of Freedom.</div><div>-She was the first Latina inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Separate Is Never Equal: Sylvia Mendez and Her Familys Fight for Desegregation </em>(Jane Addams Award Book (Awards))</div><div><br></div><div>2015 Winner of the Pura Belpre Award</div><div><br>Summary: </div><div>Sylvia Mendez and her family fought for the ending of segregated schools in California. They were Mexican American citizens who spoke fluent English. Mendez’s parents tried enrolling her into an all white school that was close to their home. Members of the school board refused to allow her to attend the school, and recommend that she attend a school out of the way. The school they recommended did not have suitable conditions for students. Her family sought legal action. This all took place before the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling. The lawsuit her family organized with the Hispanic community brought an end to segregation in schools in their state.</div>]]></description>
