I actually feel a sense of relief when I read this quote. I like the idea of "reimagining" productivity because sometimes I actually do feel like a machine: like I have to keep working, regardless of my feelings (either emotional or physical). I do know, at my core, that I am human. That I need rest, that I need to relax, that I need to find joy. It feels good that someone is confirming this.

I've thought a lot about this idea of rest and productivity when doing this paper, actually. In a typical year, I might cover this paper in one or two days of class. But what I keep hearing from students is that they feel exhausted and overworked. So I asked myself: does productivity have to look like grinding through something really quickly? I honestly think the answer is no. There is a different way of doing things.

I think it's so important to slow down. It allows us to find joy and peace within ourselves, and it allows us to be our best selves. And when we are our best selves... honestly, we can be MORE productive. Or at least we can produce things that are of better quality. And isn't that what we want?

People aren't machines but they are so very close. A well oiled machine needs oiling or else it's gears start grinding and tearing. The gears can break even if a small dime is put in, but all are not created equal because some can have massive weight loads while others have low. But no matter what rest is the oil that humans need, though rest is not defined it can be anything you need from sleep to skiing, to all their own.

Productivity is when your pace your work speed so your work can be the most efficient as you can be. It's not went you're rushing to get things done, with low quality work. In order to be productive you need to rest because unlike machines, we have our physical limits.

The quote to me seems a bit too optimistic to me. Yes it is really important to take rests since you need sleep to survive and it helps with your productivity. You should totally sleep when you can, but sometimes there are a lot of strict deadlines and projects that need to be completed. When this happens you should figure out if you can complete the task within the time frame without sleep and if you can't it's better to sleep. But if you can I think it would be better to do that, as long as you haven't been overworking yourself constantly. I do agree that we do have our limits and should stop sometimes but other times stopping your work can be really hard.

We have gotten used to having exhausting being "productive" for us. When hearing this quote, I had to step back and think about how exhaustion shouldn't be normal, and that isn't what productivity should mean for me.

I agree with this up until a certain point. Personally, I've got a lot of patience and resilience, so I can normally do all my assignments in one sitting. This quote just kinda seems like the people who need breaks just have to build up their fortitude to be able to do a few assignments per sitting. I mean I guess you should take breaks occasionally, but you shouldn't be taking breaks every ten minutes unless it's an activity that's really easy to fatigue in. I'd say you should take a break every hour or so for maybe 15 minutes and then get back to it.
