My favorite childhood game was "a group looking for a group". One group would hide and the other group would seek them. We learned how to be quick and patient. We also learned how important it is to belonging to a group.

As a kid I used to play with a spectrum! My entertainment besides Manic miner, pinball and all tape recorded games was to develop BASIC games! :) On the teenage ages I liked adventure games and strategy games.

I loved playing a game called STOP. Someone would start saying the alphabet in silence, and another player would say "stop". The letter of the alphabet would be revealed and we would have to find words starting with that letter for animals, plants, fruits, important historical figures, trees, cities, countries, items of clothing, etc. Very good for developing vocabulary.

My favourite game as a child was role playing game. I learned about relationships and how to behave in differently situations.

Every child but one stood on a circle. The one outside the circle had a small stick on his/her hands. His/her task was to drop the stick behind somebody (him/her not noticing it) and run around the circle to the same spot before the other kid does the same. It was really exciting, you had to be careful and fast at the same time.

I mostly liked sports as a child, especially badmington and volleyball while bit older. I still like both. playing games taught me to be determined, never give up and how to be a part of the team - collaboration. I also liked game called countries-cities - it was about checking one's knowledge on different subjects starting from name's of the countries, cities, animals, plants, etc.. I found it quite competitive and entertaining and I have learnt that even while losing one can be a winner as every single time I have learnt something new from other participants of the game.

I loved one game: the trivial pursuit. And why? That's quite easy: i played in a machine, so i had to selected 1 of the 4 possibles answers. Even when i was failing, i also learn.
In any case, I belive that any (or almost any) game allows learn something (as some of the participants of tgis course said, respecte for rules, collaboration, etc.)

My favourite game was "The Ducks and The Hunters". It is a game played outside, the number of participants - no limit. Two kids are the hunters, they are on opposite sides of the field. The rest are the ducks, they are in the middle. The hunters throw a ball to each other in order to hit ducks. The kids who are hit are considered caught ducks and they are out of the game. This game is still played because it is very funny, a lot of movement, it developes different body skills and help children to socialize.

Collect tadpoles from frogs, pretend to make food with herbs, model the damp earth, build houses with sticks and stones. Eu adorava brincar ao faz de conta, explorar o pomar do meu avô, os bichos, as plantas. Recolher girinos de rãs, fingir fazer comida com ervas, modelar a terra húmida, construir casas com paus e pedras. My favourite game as a child was one called "stop". It still is even now :) Well it pushes for our imagination and knowledge and learn more words, if you don't know the game, you play it with a pen and a piece of paper, someone starts thinking about the letters of the alphabet in order, starting on A (silently), while someone else says stop. The one spelling the letters (lower or faster) silently should reveal the letter so all players start writing a word that starts with that letter. We used to make grids and decide together like names/Countries/Animals/Fruit/Objects.... and we get 10 points for having different words written or only 5 if we see the same word written-wins the one with more points...but everyone wins by thinking, remembering, reflecting, reading, writing and sharing :)

My children prefer fencing. When I was child I didn't know about fencing. I think that the favourite game depends on the possibilities someone has and his/ her mentality (like team games or the solitary one's)

It is basically a long rubber band held by two children (girls mostly played it) and the third one tried to jump across it in different ways. Those were the steps from 1-10. I liked it because I was quite good at it, it was fun and, by putting the rubber band higher and higher, we tested our limits.

Interesting question, and interesting answers here in the group. It's like walking down memory lane - many games come back to me from my childhood!
I would have to say I liked playing cards the most. We would always play during school break, at my grandparents' place. The whole family would be together, nad it was one opportunity to spend quality time with my grandpa, who would normally be busy with other things, but this is something he did with us kids. It was fun, I learned the rules, cooperation with my team mates, I would listen to stories my grandpa would tell us, it was a shared experience.

When I was a child my favourite game and activity was playing footbal with my two brothers. We were playing most of the time in a hallway in our family house. We played in two teams my and my twin brother versus our older brother. Winning the game and older brother was something that encourage me to play more, but also fun, happines that overwheled me every time I was playing with my brothers. I think that every situation in and every game gives you some experience and you learn something. What I have learnt playing football was team work, helping my brothers. The other thing that playing footbal have learnt me that defeat is not something bad, sometimes you won, sometimes not. If my team has not won it means we have to try more but we were happy by looking our brother that has won the game. I think that the fact we were learning by playing the game and doing the things that one has to learn (as fairplay, teamwork...) made us t learn it. the thing thaht I want to say is that by playing and through activity, not just by learning by heart one really understand the point.

Growing up, rubber band skipping was one of my favourite games. A long, round piece of rubber was stretched between two players, while the third player would attempt skipping it in different manners. There were two games I loved a lot. One is called 'Country, Town'. You have to write names in 6-7 categories starting with the same letter within a given time. When the time is over, the players compare their words for each category and only those are worth points that no one else have. The categories were: countries, towns, girl's names, boy's names, plant, animal, famous person - but could be anything you agree on.
When I was a child we had a hard cover geographical atlas for school. It was also big. (It has changed since then. I mean the quality of atlases used at school.) In the middle there was a world map and below the map there were lots of flags. The game was very simple: find out which flag I am describing. Unfortunately, I must admit that I am not good at recognising flags or placing countries but I loved playing it.

There are several types of games that can be used in different contexts but may not have the same results for different students. It is up to us, teachers, to choose which game can be adapted to each of our students.

When I was little my favorite game was cooking with small fake pots, using leaves and stones as ingredients. I liked the feeling of touching and mixing all the ingredients, it seemed to me to resemble mom. I was reproducing the actions I saw doing in the kitchen and I felt great and so capable. What I perceive when I compare myself to what my peers write is that our generations loved physical games, in the yard, made of few means but very creative. Actually, these memories make me melancholic! It's important to understand how different today's habits are compared to a few decades ago in the choice of games.

The "gears" of my childhood have for many years been the "Cuisenaire rods" (Regoli in italian). How I wish I could have the box with me now and keep playing with it. It is a plastic box containing various colored elements (always plastic) that make the idea, the representation of the number. I will always remember my passion for 10 (orange) and 1 (white). Obviously I didn't use them to count but to play as if they were buildings or as if they were characters from a fantastic story. Taking up the words of Papert, I think that the REGOLI were for me the gears of my imagination. Even now the reality around me is shaped like the rules !!! The love and passion I had in the game, in building, in assembling, in composing has certainly marked my choices in my studies (Scientific High School, Architecture, Technology Teacher) and in my personal interests.

I loved to play outdoors: climbing trees, jumping rope, rubber hopping, hide and seek… I needed to move around (I had/have tons of energy!), be in contact with nature (to be calmer!) and be with my friends …

I also loved (and still love) board games such as Scrabble, Cluedo, Risk and Pictionary… Strategic thinking, patience, simplicity, creativity, communication were some skills that I worked indirectly (and while having fun!)

My favourite games? Very difficult question... At every stage of my childhood I had different favourite games and even at the same stage I did not have just one favourite game: my favourite game depended on the person I was playing with. So, for example, when I was with my friend Erika I loved playing with Barbies and inventing stories or just "re-making" the Disney movies we loved most using our Barbies. This kind of game was very important for the development of my creativity and imagination. With my two friends Virna and Isabella I loved playing board games, such as pictionary, hotel, taboo etc These kinds of games were important for the development of strategic thinking. With the neighbors I usually played outdoors and I loved the game "strega comanda colori" (a typical Italian game). I think one of the most important thing I learned and experienced when playing is that the people who were with me were fundamental: if they did not have fun there could be no fun for me either. So the most important thing for me was not to "win" or to play "my" favourite game but to see that we were all having a good time.

Well, during my childhood I enjoyed playing various board games, but my favourite game was Mathable. It is a game based upon mathematical equations which must be formed on the playing board.It has been described as being like playing Scrabble but using numbers. The player who at the end of the game has obtained most points is proclaimed winner. I loved this game because my favorite subject was Mathematics and it was very challenging and kept me engaged. Through this game I practiced how to formulate mental equations and how to make the right decisions that earn the most points.

I think my favorite game was Cluedo. Because it was misterious and problem solving. I like problem solving games and misteries. It tought me how to eliminate, rethink and solve problems. Apart from that game I loved being outside in the forest. We used to build shelters in the forest and defend them from imaginary enemies. I was not a very playful child, I just loved reading. However, I remember playing board games with family members and friends. The one that is most vivid in my memory is Piticot (The Dwarf) and with hindsight, I realise that I learnt to anticipate, to calculate (I loved jumping to the right spot without counting, just adding numbers) and even accepting defeat. As seen below, the board gives you the feeling of travelling from one region to another and I really enjoyed that.

As I child, just like most of my peers, I used to play a lot in the street. My grandparents owned the canteen at the train station here in my small town and I loved playing hide and seek all around the place. Anywhere was a great place to hide. It was a magic place. Those memories will stay with me forever.
Together with hide and seek, board games were the best: Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble... If it rained, those were the alternative options to playing outside. And it does rain a lot here in Galicia!

Such games develop social skills, you learn a lot about each other, to compete in a group, to respect rules, to help each other and be part of a team. As I browsed through answers of my peers I noticed similarities in games, we were much more creative than kids today.

As a kid I used some of the old chess figures and coloured them in two colours. I used them as a two football teams. Some old blanket was a pitch and had two small iron-made goals. I could play that game for hours.

Trying to find new hiding places for each round I had to be inventive, something I was really fond of. I wanted to play that game for many reasons. As a child I adored playing the game Treasure hunt. Together with my friends I would go around our place looking for notes and directions how to get to the place with the treasure. The game was fun, it required ingenuity, a lot of walking, space orientation and it made us think. I see that a lot of colleagues mentioned playing outside games, which means living according to the way our grandparents and parents lived and an experience the children of today don't have. Children used to spend a lot of time outdoors, running, walking, talking, being inventive because they didn't have technology to provide them with games, the ways of spending their free time came to them naturally and enabled them with different opportunities for physical and mental growth.

My favorite game was Seven Stones. The game was fun and it was to be played between two teams. The aim of the game is to break the tower and then rebuild it before getting hit by one of the opponent. I loved it because it was the win of all of us.

To be honest, I cannot remember what my favourite game as a child was, I played a lot of different things - from running around outside with friends to logic games that I did alone. I really liked to play card games when I was younger. You had to collect four cards of the same animals, cars,... or beat the other person with an animal that was faster, taller, larger, ... so I picked up a lot of world knowledge by playing these games. One of my favourite games was playing "Who is who?"I could spend hours playing this game. For me, it was a way to developed oral skills and because it is in pairs, at the same time it was a reasonable quiet game. I remember my favourite game from when I was 7-year old in 1969: my own shoot ‘em up. In each side of my bedroom I lay two sets of small action figures (wild west cowboys and indians), and then shoot the opposite with small marbles. Most of the time I played alone so I had to move from one side to the other. I loved the perfection of the figures and I was always asking for new ones. The most important lesson? I learned how to occupy my time and never feel alone.

Anyway I remember also indoors games like “Towns, things and nouns” or monopoly; this last one can be used to develop and enhance problem solving skill. Sometime in my class I let my students play “Towns, things and nouns” as a stimulating exercise to repeat the lexicon.

As a child, I liked board games. They awoke my creativity, forced me to memorize things, but also brought the sense of competition. The extrinsic motivation to win was a strong stimulus to play, even more so when I needed to collaborate with other children from my group. It developed my logical thinking and allowed me to save a lot of data in my long-term memory. The group work and collaboration with my age mates motivated me to do my best.

When I was a child my favourite game was called “campana”. We played outdoors with our friends: with a piece of chalk we drawed a rectangle on the floor. This rectangle was divided in many boxes. Every box had a number. We had to throw a stone on these numbers and then to jump inside these boxes without stepping on the lines. We started from number one and then we had to jump on the other numbers. Then the game became more difficult because first we had to jump on two feet, then on one foot, then we had to jump on the back, and so on. This game was really useful my growth: I had to check the strenght and the precision in throwing the stone and in jumping. I had to keep the balance in the several phases of the game. It’s a pitythat you don’t play it almost anymore.

As a kid I was spending many hours with boardgames like monopoly. In past it was very absorbing and joyfull way of time spending. All kids from neighborhood were meeting around the board. Even if someone didnt catch up to play, he was observing or helping to others. Rules were quite simple so everyone was able to play it. My favourite was Monopoly because you had to play it sometimes for hours to finish the game, you had to be strategic but also lucky (just like in real life). Playing the game I learned about finance, practiced negotiation and patience and realized that I can’t control everything that happens. Games are great because they are different. I learned lot from them for example, when I was 4-5, I learnt counting by 5 because that domino game based on calculation, after your turn if the total is multiply by 5 you can get point.

When I was a child I enjoyed playing apples. In this game children are divided into two groups. Two players of one group stand opposite one another and the players of the other group gather between them. The two players throw a ball at each other trying to hit one of the children of the rival group. If the ball hits a player then they get “burned” and exit the game. However, if a player catches the ball, he wins an “apple.” The goal of this game is to get as many “apples” as possible. Each “apple” gives the player an extra “life” he can use in case he gets “burned.” What I learned from this game was to obey rules and cooperate with others!!

When I was in Kindergarten and primary school, i liked Lego a lot, playing with matchbox cars creating fictive racing and building our living room to a complete game landscape. I think this was a combination of the imitation of reality with fantasy. Later on I preferred computer games - especially adventures - most of my Englisch language skills have their base in using the computer... The thrill of looking for a super secret place to hide, then the thrill again to finish the game without being discovered... well I think that two major factors that made me love that game were the suspense and the fact it was a social game. We couldn’t play it by ourselves and if there were many participants it was super fun. All game taught us something and this in particular taught us about following rules, about being creative and thinking fast in taking decisions. I do this game in class with my students using people into the school (students, assistants, teachers). One student has to go out of the class and the others decide the person to guess. When the students comes into again he asks question about physical description or particularity.
I love this game because in Italy everybody knows this game, it is easy to play and students can learn how to ask questions (do/does) and many vocabulary. You can use also job game which is similar.

When I was child, I loved to play ,,Country, country, we need soldiers!" with my friends. This game is playing outside. A big group is divided in two groups. Players sit in two lines. First group says ,,Country, country need soldiers!", other group answer ,,Which of us?" , first group say a name, for eg. we want to Jim! and the Jim run along and try to break the side of the adverse team that holds their hands. If he succeeds, he returns to the team with a player if he does not remain a prisoner to the opposing team.

Of course that it developed my social skills as I played with my friends. However I also enjoyed playing noughts and crosses when I couldn't play outside. It stimulated my problem solving skills, observing and thinking skills! These were my favourite games when I was a child.
I read some answers of my peers and most of them refer games played outside with friends and table games. In my opinion these games reach all types of learners because they stimulated motor skills, but also thinking and problem solving skills in which anyone could play at his/her own rhythm.

When I was a child I loved playing with LEGOs. I loved that I was able to express my creativity and now I realize that it helped me develop fine motor skills, it made me think creatively in order to solve a problem. I also liked board games, such as Game of Life, Monopoly and Boggle (not a board game, I know) and whenever I would go to my grandparents house, us kids would play Hide and Seek, Statues or something we call Laštik (I think it's known as Chinese Jumping Rope) because it was loads of fun, and we always had a good laugh playing these games, it brought me and my friends closer,.

I grew up in the village and our favorite games were outdoors. There were a lot of games, we changed them all the time. One of the games was the Group looking for a group. These games helped us to develop social skills but also motor skills because we were active in nature as well. In this game we have to whisper to the child next to us, nobody else had to hear, a word, usually a long one, and saying fast. That child had to continue to the child next to him to whisper the word that he heard, and so on. The last child had to say loud the word. Usually, the word said by the last child was not the same with the first one. And it was so funny. This game developed our language, by developing the phonetic hearing.

When I was a child I used to play Cluedo a lot. It helped me learn to create my own strategies to solve the mystery, pay attention, infer who the murder was...at an early age. It requested concentration but it was a lot of fun at the same time. We all wanted to solve the mystery first, so we worked hard on combining the different clues in an effective way so I practised a lot of problem-solving skills such as deduction.
I also used to play MASTERMIND a lot. It is a code-breaking game for two players where you have to guess a pattern of hidden pegs. I had to use logic and deduction to be able to guess the right pattern.
I think these two games as well as others that I have read on this padlet have some things in common which make them appealing: they have a final goal...and that makes you want to overcome all the "obstacles" to find the solution. But both, overcoming the obstacles and solving the problem were equally fun.

I had a more then one favourite games as a child. Most of them were outdoor games like "Hide and seek” and “Hopscotch", various ball games, card games, Rummy, Hangman.

Playing outdoor games developed my mobility, orientation in space.

From playing card games I learned how to match colours, faces, shapes, to compare small-big. Playing hangman helped me developing my reading-writing skills.

One childhood game that I remember we played a lot was 'The (deaf) telephone” (I still love to play this game!) the players must sit in a circle or stand in line. They need to be close enough that whispering is possible, but not so close that players can hear each other whisper.The first person in the line/circle whispers a word or phrase into the ear of the person sitting or standing to their right.Players whisper the phrase to their neighbours until it reaches the last player in line.The last player says the word or phrase out loud so everyone can hear how much it has changed from the first whisper at the beginning of the line.

And it was so funny. This game developed our language, by developing the phonetic hearing.

Like many others here, I liked outside games. One of my favourite was „Fischer, Fischer, wie tief ist das Wasser?“ (Fisher , tell me: How deep is the water?). It’s fun in a big group of children. All the kids are at one side, only „the fisher“ is alone at the other side. The kids shout : „Fisher, how deep is the water?“ The fisher answer for example: „19 meters!“ „How can we cross over it?“ Now the fisher have to be creative: „run“ or „Jump like a bunny“ or „crawl“ „
All the kids are running through the „water“ while the fisher is catching them. The same procedure is going on until most of the children are „fisher“ and there is only one person left.
At the beginning of this game, it’s easy for the fisher to decide. After the fisher catched one person, the two fishers have to decide together about the was of moving and the deepth of water. This game is a running game, children can learn different ways of moving. They also train to find decisions in a group.

As a child I liked two games, both played outside. First it was a game where we girls jumped over a streching rope in few different games (a whole serie of different moves or running and jumping over it in the repeating move but the strech was getting higher and higher till over the head, we had a song to sing while playing). The second one: there were two gropus, we were holding each other's hand and we were standing in a line, one group facing another one on a distance of five metres, than someone from the group called someone from another group and that child had to run and break through the arms of another group. If he succeded, he could take one member from that group to his own. If he couldn't break through, he had to stay in the new group. The group who had more membres won. I liked them because they were team games, I had to move, ro run, to jump over, to sing, there was a challenge every time and of course I could win, expecially in the first one. There was nothing so special in learning it, I only had to coordinate all my competencies. I've learned that the team is important, that if we stick together and we hold strongly, we can win.

I see that everyone of us liked different types of games, it proves our individuality. The same comes with our students, they are individuals and they are all different.

When I was a child, I didn’t use games because I rather play outside. I wasn’t very fond of games and there weren’t many. I’ve seen what my peers have written and I notice there are some like me (maybe the older ones)

What I remember was to play Loto (some cards with numbers and someone said the numbers from 1 to 90). It was more a matter of luck to win the game. Later, we did the game in other languages: French, English and German and it was more difficult, of course.

I also liked to play “Baccalauréat”: someone says a letter and you have to fill the columns with names that start with this letter (Ex: Letter A: countries: Belgium; animals: Bear, Objects: bottle….).

I liked it because it was challenging and we have to be fast and think and be concentrated. I wanted to play more because I wanted to win and I felt happy when I won. I think that when I played Loto, I had to knew the numbers in the language I was playing and, if I already knew them I wasn’t really learning much more but only soft skills such as respect, fair play, socialization, … When I was playing Baccalauréat, I was learning new vocabulary or checking the spelling of words.

My peers had different types of games but many of them also played outside games. Of course, depending on the country and the culture, games were different and each one chose the game he prefers.

I think the first game characteristic was the pleasure we had in playing and how it was important to play with other children (socialize). The fun is also very important. I believe we speak about “learning” because we know now that playing is also learning but I don’t think we knew by that time.

When I was little, computers began their reign in the world, so I actually grew up with video games. Most memorable game from my childhood is Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time. This game had lots of puzzles, tips, tutorials, questions, conundrums.. all written AND spoken in English. That was my first encounter with English language and by playing that game (and later many similar games) I learned basic English structures without even trying to learn. We would choose a letter randomly, then we would have to complete a list of words beginning with this letter - country, city, person's name, animal, object, band, etc. The first one to complete their list was the winner! The first game that came into my mind was ”Afrikan tähti” (’The Star of Africa’), which is the most famous board game in Finland. It was exciting because you never knew where you could find the most valuable gems or the Star of Africa, with "a robber" the situation could quickly change. You had to make wise decisions now and then. Winning the game was also nice. By playing the exciting game the players learn about the geography of Africa - towns, places, animals, … ; about paying with money – and sometimes losing it all; about the colours of different gems; and about playing together and what it takes. Nowadays teachers create their own versions of the game to be used in classes.
When reading the texts of our peers here, I recognize a lot of familiar things: playing outside with the siblings and friends, using the nature as source of imagination. We also used to play with real tools and made different things, e.g. ladders of rope and wooden steps, we fell trees to build huts, and used snow to make tunnels or snow castles etc.
At school we played about the same games as children seem to play all over the world, and some different versions of them. Playing together was always fun.
In our answers on this Padlet there are a lot of different aspects about games and playing: it's a huge field and if you have to choose the game with most fun the answers are different.

My favorite game is called 7 roof tiles and we used to play it during the summer holidays. It’s a traditional game and every generation passes the game on to the next one. The game took place in a big courtyard outside the village church.  We were divided into two teams (A and B).  A tennis ball and seven small pieces of roof tiles are needed for the game. The 7 pieces of roof tiles are placed one on top of the other, forming a stack. Each player of team A throws the tennis ball from a certain distance aiming to knock down part of the stack of tiles. Once this is achieved, players of team A start running in the courtyard and hide behind columns or walls in order to avoid being hit by the ball which is now in the possession of the other team.  Meanwhile, players of team B have to touch all players of the other team with the ball, before they manage to rebuild the stack of 7 roof tiles. The player of team B holding the ball is not allowed to move but has to throw the ball to a co-player or aim at a player of the opposite team. Every player hit by the ball is expelled from the game. The winning team is the one who manages to rebuild the stack, or the one who has expelled all the players on the other team.
Collaboration and strategy play a major role in this game, we always enjoyed playing it with friends of all ages :-)

I adored crosswords since I remember. I used to sit with my mum and we would do the crosswords for hours (sometimes we still do that when I visit my family home). When I was a child, I loved board games such as parchis or "la Oca" and playing cards with my parents, sister and my cousins. Playing cards helped me think ahead and plan and develop strategies since I always wanted to win. Playing parchis or "La Oca" were not so challenging as there was not a strategy, you depended on the dice.
With those games I learnt to be patient, but also competitive and I developed my memory.

My favourite game that I played throughout my childhood since I was ~10 was a collecting card game - Magic the Gathering. I loved it because I could build my own deck of cards and create my own playing style and tactics. It taught me to plan ahead, use logical reasoning, look at things from many perspectives, do most with what you currently have at your disposal, and that sometimes it all comes down to (not) having a bit of luck, however good you might be.

When I was little I loved simple board games. Like bingo, Frustrations, and there was this game called Horse races. There were tracks for each horse and hurdles. You'd throw the die and "run", if you fell on a hurdle you go back to the start. Very frustrating but it taught me patience, persistence, focus on the goal and trial and error. What's most important I never gave up hope that I will win once.

My favourite game in my childhood was a game called Graničar (the Border Man). You play in two fields (two teams), hold a ball in your hands and try to hit another child from the opposite team (field). You have to hit them hard so they cannot catch the ball. Every child had only one life (one opportunity to play the game until they have been hit by the ball) but Graničar had 3 lives and often was the most skillful and very agile child in a team. I liked the game because I liked outdoor games and also the ones that include physical skills and agility.
I learned a lot through this game: to be patient, to wait for the right moment to throw the ball, to be precise, to follow the rules and to respect other children. I also learned you can't always be the winner.

The game that I like the most when I was a child I think is "guardie e ladri" (guards and robbers). You have two teams: one made by the "guards" and the other one made by "robbers".
The aim for the guards is to search and imprison all the robbers, the aim for the robbers is to steal something, without being caught.

My favourite game was a card game called Colours. The goal of the game was to track the colour that was assigned by choosing from the scattered cards facing down. The winner is the one who has no cards in his hands when there are no cards left to choose from. I adored this game because it was a nice way to spend time with my family (we laughed, joked, talked etc.) and the most important, it had an element of surprise - you never knew which card you are going to choose. This game taught me logic and practiced my memory because you had to memories how many cards of the same colour are still available and what card is the "weak" card of my opponent. I didn't really have a favourite game but I had lots of games that I enjoyed playing. There was a game we played outside which consisted in conquering the world (designed on the floor) by throwing a nail (a big one) to the floor. However, we could only conquer that territory if our foot could fit to the closest border, otherwise we would loose that bit. besides luck (a a big foot), I guess we could learn to think ahead (sort of as in chess), in order to create a strategy. It reminds me another game I always enjoyed playing, Risk! Although a great bit of luck is needed, we also have to think carefully on who to attack and which alliances are most suitable (some deceiving as well... politics! :-) )

I remember a board game - a learning game. It was fun because it always included the solution of the problem you had to solve at the end of each try. If you failed - it didn`t matter. You could start from the beginning and try it again. It helped to repeat what you had learned at school in a more active and self-controlled way of learning e.g. counting, calculating and reading.
Reading through the posts of my peers I was inspired how many different ways of playing/gaming they have experienced: inside/outside (where), family vs. friends (who), using different materials (with what), different kinds of games (what), different activities (how) etc.. This shows that games over such a great variety to address to all kinds of learning types. It opens so many ways to motivate kids and even adults to enjoy learning!

I mostly liked word games. When I was a child, I loved to play all kinds of board games and I also loved playing dominoes, which I often did with my grandparents, but at school I loved playing "STOP" with my friends.

It is a “word game” in which someone starts saying the alphabet silently and we say stop. With the letter given we have to write words under the correct categories (starting with that letter) and when someone completes all the categories shouts stop. You can have as many categories as you wish according to the age and knowledge of the players. This game aims to help students remember the largest number of vocabulary words. We then check the scores. If more than one person has a word, it is worth 5 points. If no one else has the word, it is worth 10 and if no one else has completed that category it is worth 20 points.

It is an easy way to develop many skills and practice vocabulary.

My favourite game when I was a child was the skipping rope. I loved playing it during the school break, or in the afternoons in the streets with my friends. It wasn't only about skipping the rope but we had tens of songs to sing and jump to and several techniques so it was something to learn and share. I loved how we collaborated and did some sport at the same time! I found this video with some examples.

Such a game allows to work the vocabulary of the child, allows to widen our notions and our knowledge. Seen its importance that our children of today prefer this game, in a spare time I saw my pupils plying that game .

If those two games were played with boys and girls , there were moments when boys would play ball games or warriors while girls would play with dolls pretending to be in a fantasy world. And even if we all knew the boy had nothing but a wooden stick in his hand , if he pretended that was a shinny silver sword, none of us would ruin his fantasy ,even more, we would jump into it and add some more imaginary characters so we would fit in . If in our girly games I pretended I was the teacher all the others were students. We use to play teachers or doctors or family. We took turns in our invented role playing so each of us could be a hero. It was the whole world in our games , imagination and creativity helped us to develop social and emotional skills.

My favorite childhood game was dodge ball because I like all the games that are played with a ball and that include outdoor activities. There was nothing more fun for me as a child than to go out on a sunny day and play it with my friends. Dodge ball has definitely improved my strength, flexibility (avoiding to be hit by a ball), precision skills, fast reflexes. I have also learnt how to work in a team as well as to accept that it is OK to sometimes lose.
There are many examples of games provided by my peers: card and board games, hide and seek, word games, story telling, etc. A variety of examples indicates that games are perfect ways to involve all the students in a learning process no matter their individual differences because each student can contribute with what she/he does the best.

My favorite game indoors was monopoly, and outdoors was the Chinese jump rope. With the Chinese jump rope, I learned to compete and accept other winners and I learned to win too. But basically I realized kids are totally different from one another although they can be friends, and that winners always tend to be more popular especially if they are the owners of the rope. But with all imperfections we could get to an agreement because all wanted to enjoy the time outdoors. Indoors with Monopoly, I could spend hours playing, even my dad used to play with us. We were six siblings and we learned a lot about how the world is divided by the poor and the rich. I have read my peers comments, so my conclusion is that when all who want to enter the game have clear the rules of the game and the objective of the game -that is to have fun- you can accept the some limits in the behaviors of others(who might get angry when losing), but in the end all members learn that cooperation and harmony in coexisting for the purposes of the game is vital to attain joy -that is the main objective of the game.

30 years ago, playing was different. I loved to be outdoors...i hardly remember playing in the house (just the common board games and role play). My favorite game when I was little was "Name, Animal, Plant". Each child has one paper and one pen. On the paper we write categories we have agreed to include such as Name, Animal, Thing, Plant, Occupation, Food, Country / Town. A player starts saying from inside the alphabet by saying only the first letter aloud. The game starts with the letter to which another player has stopped. Players must write a word in each category as soon as possible starting with the letter chosen. The one who will first complete all the categories in one word, shouts "STOP".
The one who will have the highest overall score is the winner of the game..

I really enjoyed playing cards especially when I won. I was a very competitive person and I had good memory, so 80 times/100 I won. I think I developed a figurative memory, which was very useful as I started to prepare myself to pass my exams at the University. The most of my exams consisted of recognise something (a plant, a sample in a slide under the microscope light, a rock, a mineral).. images of everything I had taken a picture by my photographic memory. As somebody wrote, Monopoly is also useful to develop a business mentality I did not have. Chess help to be focused on something and, what is more strategy is important in this game. Name, Animal and plants, Katerina’s favourite game, or city, country and rivers ares useful to remember and classify and stimulate to study subjects such Geography, Science...I have never completed Rubik magic cube. My compliments Mario! Snake and Ladder board was interesting too. Gards, Robbers, Handball and other physical games are in my opinion the best one to develop skills and intelligence. However, I do not know why, as adults we show the tendency to forget all these useful and enjoyable physical game we played during our childhood. Are they not more played as much as we did or the major part of my peers found them not so exciting as board games? I did it.

When I was a kid my favourite game was a "detective game" in which participated my friends from neighbourhood. The point was to think about the clues that one kid, who had a role of a "criminal" leave (like evidence) and thge rest of us were divided into two (or more) teams and we were competing which team was able to find the criminal first. That game has taught me to work in team and to think logically.

My favourite game from my childhood was Hide and Seek. I liked this game because it can be easily played by a group of children. The rules are simple: a child (“it”) closes their eyes and counts to a predetermined number while the other players hide. When the counting is over, the “it” child calls “Ready or not, here I come!” and goes searching for the other kids. The player found first will be the next seeker and the player found last is the winner. By playing this game I learned to communicate, cooperate and interact with my friends.

My favourite game as a child was a card game called colours. You would scramble cards, place it down and put one card facing up in the middle. Every player has to pick a card from the scrambled ones and pick them up until he finds the matching colour of the facing up card. Then he has to assign different colour for the next player. The aim of the game is to have no cards in your hands when all the scrambled ones are picked up. The game was great for me because you had to think logically, memorise how many cards of the same colour are left, what is your opponents "weak" card and the best part is that it had an element of surprise. You never knew which card you would get. It also taught me how to respect others, how to be patient and it was a great game for socializing with my family. From looking at the answers of others, I think that most of the games taught us about team work and how to be creative.

As a child, I used to be the teacher of my little toys or brother. I remember that all of them had notebooks and pens and they would sit in a row in front of me, as I was putting them marks in a self-made catalogue. I would also write with chalk on the doors, a thing which used to drive my mother crazy. As Cennet said, I used to play the same game when one of the children said a letter and all of us would write countries, towns, plants, animals, rivers and names with that specific letter. It helped me a lot with Geography. Or on other occasions, I would play a contest in which my grandpa would say a country and I would tell him the capital city of it. It was fun, but also extremely useful.

As a board game I liked to play ”country-cities ...”, a game where we had to write on a sheet , in a table: countries, cities, rivers, mountains, animals, objects starting with a letter chosen by the players. When I was young, I liked playing "board games". I liked because we played together. Every weekend, we played PARCHIS, and everyone looked for their own strategy to win the play. We also played to "guess who", "cards such as "1000 km", snakes and ladders, "la oca (the goose game)". In fact, we spent a lot of time playing more than watching TV. I used to jump rope a lot as a child. I liked it because it was dynamic, it involved jumping and sweating, which was good (I had a lot of energy as a child). As a child, I spent a lot of time outside with my friends. One of my favorite games was called "gumi-gumi". It was a simple piece of rubber tape (2-3 meters long), which holded two of a players, and the others (in turns) had tu step on it, go under it, jump over it,... with saying some rosarys at the same time. It teached me to have allways enough friends arround, play together, wait for my turn, and so on.

I love playing puzzle-like games. For example, I played "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", The Original Sims, 100 to 1000 Puzzle Pieces, etc. The reason I like these type of game was because it helps me to think strategically. I learned that in every topic, content, situation, event, etc., has a connection to something, just like a puzzle. The way I learn first was by making mistakes then finding out a solution then making a connection then putting the pieces altogether as one. The game stimulates the mind in which you find and make a connection, similar to a real life connection.

All the learners here provided games that I once played too when I was a kid. Some are new and never heard of and some are what I had played before yet improvised in a different way. All I can say that games no matter where stimulates the enjoyment of "play".

As a teenager I used to play Stop, a game where you are given a letter and categories. You write a word beginning with that letter and when you're done, you yell: "stop".
By playing this game I came to realize that in order to be on top of the game, you needed to expand your lexicon so I was motivated to read a lot more.

I used to LOVE computer games. It was in the beginning on the 90s and GTA1, Mortal Combat and other strategy games (Age of Empires for ex) were just released for Windows. I was really awful at any racing games (and still am).
Outdoor games, anything competitive or where I was the leader or organiser or adventure and exploration activities.

I mostly played outside, there were planty outdoor games that I liked. I also liked board games, cards, geography quizes... I was never bored like nowadays kids.
