Into the Wild is about a young man who wants to find himself. He sets off on a long aggravating trip from Stampede Trail in Alaska to Atlanta in the United States. Gallien states that Alaska is "the unsullied enormity of the Last Frontier that will patch all the holes in their lives".

As it is only chapter 2 of the book, we are already revealed the dead body of Chris. His body is found next to a bus he seemed to be living in, but the bus site is miraculously encountered by six individuals on the exact same day. The discovery of Chris’ body is like a threshold for something even bigger to be discovered. How did he die? Why is he way out here? What is so important about the notes he left behind? This leaves me to wonder why he went all this way just to end up like this.

Chapter 3 Carthage

In chapter 3 Carthage, we learn that Walt, his dad, is currently an aerospace engineer. He worked for NASA and Hughes Aircraft. This is actually really impressive. He is a hard working man from what it sounds like. If I had to make an assumption, Chris left because his father was almost never around. Walt did all of this before starting his own consulting business together with Billie, Chris' mother. Just like her husband she is also a hard worker if she wants to work in this kind of field of work. Chris also has one sister and six half brothers from his father's first marriage. We actually learned so much about his family in just a single chapter. His parents are actually pretty impressive. I hope we learn about his siblings next!

Chapter 4 Detrital Wash

Chapter 4 was actually a huge plot twist about Chris' car. The car that Chris loved so much was abandoned in a river. The type of car was a dodge. Covered in mud, the car has been hidden under a tarp and is parked on a dry riverbed, apparently struck by a flash flood that was later discovered by officers. Chris hated the authorities and wanted nothing to do with them. How ironic is it that the police for Chris' car and use it to do drug bust. As these chapters go on we begin to wonder more and more about about Chris and the kind of person he is; why does he hate the authorities so much, why did he abandon his family and car. Or maybe I should say, what is the real reason for this?

Chapter 5 Bullhead City

We learn a little more about Chris and what kind of person he is. He hates having to deal with responsibility or being asked to do anything. Instead of dealing with anything asked of him, he runs out. This indicates that he is selfish. He uses words like "consequence" (page 40), as if he is in danger of something. This may also be the reason he ran away from home. From the way things are looking, he wants to live on his own so nobody can tell him anything. He also does not take care of himself like a decent human. Chris is described as "unkempt" (page 42) meaning he has an untidy or disheveled appearance. If he can not even look decent enough to go out into public, what make him think he can survive in the wild?
