My initial thoughts and feelings about the course is that I am excited and eager to make my promotional product and learn about coding. This is also because I want to use my VFX skills for my promotional video if possible. In addition coding has been something I would really want under my skillset or at least know a bit more about it. I have done a promotional video in the past before for a college group assignment. I have somewhat of an idea to what I want to do but I fear I may not be able to pull it off due to heavy use of VFX.

My Target Audience

My Target audience: Male/Female adults (Aged 21 to 30) who are working or partaking a lot outdoors.

Those who are frequently outside, especially between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm, when the sun is at its most intense. Also, those who work or partake in outdoor pursuits like sports, gardening, or hiking. In addition, if they reside in high altitude places, close to the equator, or in areas with a lot of reflecting surfaces like snow, sand, or water they should take extra steps to protect their eyes and skin from UV radiation. Last but not least, those who suffer from specific medical issues including skin cancer, retinal problems, or cataracts should also take precautions to shield themselves from UV radiation.

Identify and Craft the message (AIDA)

Attention: In contrast to the precedent, I want to have a character be able to see the effects of UV happening to people around him. Thus, also showing the audience as well. With that, I will grab the audience's attention by using visuals of people's skin getting corrupted and infected by using visual effects.

Interest: The setting and scene would be at familiar places such as the field or the beach which everyone is familiar with. In addition, characters in the scene would also be playing soccer or enjoying a walk at the beach. Therefore giving a sense of connection and familiarity to the audience.

Desire: The tone and emotion of the message of my video would be to make the audience worried and concerned after seeing such a vile and disgusting effect on the skin, though they may not look that way in real life, it represents the sense of damaging and harmfulness it has on to the skin and eyes. The sense of horror in the video would also be a key factor in achieving these emotions.

Action: The audience should feel the need to take action after watching the video as it should instill some fear and concern after seeing such shocking effects on the skin and eyes. The audience will further understand that, although we may not be able to see the damage on our skin, the damage is still happening.

Treatment

The opening sequence will showcase two guys playing football under the hot sun. We see one of the players running with the ball as he suddenly stops. It switches to his point of view, he stares up at the sun and as he stares, his vision defocuses as a faint burning sound effect can be heard. He looks back down to have his vision focused back, he looks at his arms corroding like an infection, the burning sound effect is enhanced and it sounds as though his skin is burning. He looks forward, staring at his friend in front of him. His friend's face and body can also be seen corroding and burning. A 'sudden realization' sound is heard as he steps back and screams, cutting to black. The call to action can be heard through a voiceover and is also shown.

1. White Hat: As I put on the white hat, I focus on acquiring and analyzing information about UV Radiation awareness. I look for information on the latest UV protection technology and products, as well as facts, statistics, and research on the effects of UV radiation on the skin. I will present the acquired information in my video by showing the source of UV radiation and the damage it may cause to your skin if it could be seen with the naked eye.

I will show the call to action by providing a positive message through a voiceover at the end.

Tone

Before the audiences have seen my video, they would probably know about UV radiation from the sun, but they never knew how serious it was. Thus, after the audience watches my video I want them feel the urgency to take action or instill anxiety in them. I want them to understand that although they may not see the damages occurring, it is still happening. Therefore leading them to take safety measures to protect themselves.

The colours that best suits the emotions of my video are orange to yellow colours. The beige colour helps to kind of cool the warmth. I mainly chose these colours as I think it suits the theme of my video and the message.

The font I chose are Lemon Milk Bold for my heading and also the call to action message, as it stands out and provide that modern look to it. It is also provide clarity and helps to emphasize my text. For my paragraph I am using Arial Rounded MT Bold as it helps with readability as well as matches the modern and clear look of Lemon Milk Bold.

The colours I chose, are the warm orange to peach colors. I chose these colors because it suits my message and narrative. The setting is at a field and is on a hot sunny day, thus it is only sensible to use these colors to set the mood and tone. It also helps to add that extra layer of intensity of the UV effect on screen.
