Hi my name is Kiana Delgado and I was born in Pacoima CA on January 4th, 2002. I have lived here my entire life. I have some family history in pacomia. My mom, her siblings, and my grandparents immigrated here from Mexico when she was about 14 years old. Technically I am the youngest child, I have an older sister, but my family adopted my niece (my older sisters daughter) into the family when she was about 2 years old and we grew up like sisters. So I consider myself and grew up as the middle child. On the top left corner I've included a picture of my sisters and on the bottom right corner is a picture of my cousin and I.

1st dance class

When I was about 4 years old, I took my very first dance class at Fox Studio of Dance and gymnastics. I started with taking gymnastics and tap classes. I immediately fell in love with it and wanted to keep continuing. The studio was close by my house in San Fernando and I started it with my cousin Samantha (who is pictured with me in the last post). My mom and my aunt thought it was a fun activity for us to do together. She didn't really enjoyed it as much as I did but later on I made some lifelong friends and great connections to some of my best friends today.

My nephew’s birth

On August 6, 20013 my nephew Mathew was born. He was the first boy to be born in my family since 1985. The first grandchild was a girl (my older sister) then after was all girls until my nephew was born. I love my nephew, he is like my child. In high school I would practically babysit him every weekend and some people thought he was child.

First time in Mexico

The first time I went to Mexico was when I went for my cousins quince. I went to my mom's hometown called Guadalajara. I was able to see where my grandmother grew up and where my mom spent her childhood in. During that trip we walked around the neighborhood and also got to see the avocado farm my grandfather owns. I was a but scared to visit because that house is rumored to be haunted by my late family members and I believe it.

New York

Fast forward to my junior year of high school. My family and I usually take two week long trips, one during spring break and one during summer. This year for our spring break trip was to New York. I have been begging my mom to go and she finally book it. We went on a tour, visited Time Square, Central Park, visited the 9/11 memorial. We also got to watch Aladdin on broadway and it my favorite show I have seen. Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie. It was the best trip I have ever took and have been begging to go back since then.

Last Competition and Graduation

In high school, I was on the dance team all four years. My senior year I was excited for nationals because we always went to long beach for. The competition before that we went to Las Vegas. Unknowingly, that was my last competition ever. Then the pandemic happened and my senior year was online for the rest of the year. For graduation, my school was going to it online where we just go on zoom and be done with it. I was upset about it because other school were getting a drive through graduation. The parents were fighting the school and we ended up with a drive through graduation. I did not get the actual graduation that I wanted but it was something that we had to fight for.

College

My first year at CSUN was online. Things were starting to open up slowly and then I got my first job. My freshman year was the lowest point in my life and somehow I manage to pull through it.

Florida

During the year 2022, I went on a trip to Florida with my boyfriend and his family. This was really big because it was a big step in our relationship and with the relationship with my mom. That was big step for her to trust me. I am really happy she did because it was one of the best trips of my life. I was there for a week and we did an amusement park each day. We went to all the Disney parks, universal studios, and Sea world. I really got to connect to his parents and they got to know me. That is one trip we still talk about this day.

Teaching dance

Ever since I was little Ive always wanted to teach dance. I did not know what I wanted to do but that was one thing I was for sure one. I actually got the call while I was in Florida offering a teaching spot at the studio I grew up in. It was tough in the beginning because I was new to this and it was hard for the parents to trust me. Slowly I got them to trust me and grew in my classes. This is where I fell in love with teaching so thats when I figured I want to teach in education. I also met one of my closest friends now. It is such a rewarding job seeing the children grow and sharing our love for dance is the best thing about this job.

College now

Now I am in my final semester of undergrad. It does not feel I'm going to graduate. I am really excited for finish and excited for a break. Between my bachelors degree and my credentials I am taking a semester break which I think its really needed.

Places to travel

Some places I want to travel is I want to go back to New York. I have been saying this since I went there for the first time. I am also taking a trip to Jamaica next year for my boyfriends dad birthday which I am so excited for.
