Perak Cave Temple or also known as Perak Tong Temple is one of the most attractive attraction here in Perak, Malaysia. Perak Tong Cave Temple is one of the oldest and most beautifully preserved temple in Ipoh. Within the huge limestone caves of Gunung Tasik, this temple was built in 1926 by Buddhists priests from China. The temple houses over 40 Buddha statues with the centrepiece being a 12.8-metre high sitting Buddha. The cave sits at the foot of a 120m high limestone outcrop – one of several hills in the area – behind a simple but pretty garden, decorated with lotus ponds, pavilions, pagodas and two bell towers.

At the cave entrance, visitors will go passing through the temple arch and will then witness a 15m high image of Buddha, which is the main feature of the natural prayer chamber. There are also several smaller chambers that lead off from the area that forming little grottoes fro images of deities like the Goddess of Mercy (Guan Yin) as well as images of Buddha in various poses. Other than that, there are also rows of stalls on each side selling jossticks and other religious items.

Beyond the main altar, there is a passage which leads into the cave's interior. One will definitely be fascinated with the mystical mural paintings found on the cave's walls as well as the numerous statues. Be prepared to bring a tripod into the temple for pictures as the interiors are often very dark and only lighted by candles. Visitors can offer a temple donation of RM 3 to access the narrow staircase that leads to the upper part of the temple and the monks quareters. After a steep climb of 385 steps, the cave opens again to reveal a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside and a small garden and pavilion.

The temple is located along Jalan Kuala Kangsar within the outskirts of Ipoh. Parking is free of charge for all visitors in front of the temple. There are also refreshment stalls for the thirsty visitor. Do not be surprised if you suddenly find a monkey in front of you eyeing your peanuts. The monkeys live among the hills and they are not dangerous to people.

https://www.tripadvisor.com.my/Travel-g298298-c98912/Ipoh:Malaysia:Perak.Tong.Cave.Temple.html

AFamosa in Malacca

As Malaysians, we all know the existence of AFamosa. In Malay, it is called Kota AFamosa while in Portuguese, it meant “The Famous”. This place is located in Malacca and was a former Portuguese fortress in 1511. Although it changed hands through the years, it is still famous for what it was known, Portuguese fortress. It is one if the eldest European Architectural building in Southeast Asia and the Far East.

In 1511, a Portuguese fleet arrived under the command of Alfonso de Albuquerque. His forces attacked and defeated the armies of the Malacca Sultanate. Moving quickly to consolidate his gains, Albuquerque had the fortress built around a natural hill near the sea. Albuquerque believed that Malacca would become an important port linking Portugal to the Spice Route in China. At this time other Portuguese were establishing outposts in such places as Macau, China and Goa, India to create a string of friendly ports for ships heading to Ming China and returning home to Portugal.

The fortress once consisted of long ramparts and four major towers. One was a four-story keep, while the others held an ammunition storage room, the residence of the captain, and an officers' quarters. Most of the village clustered in town houses inside the fortress walls. As Malacca's population expanded it outgrew the original fort and extensions were added around 1586.

The fortress changed hands in 1641, by the Dutch when they chased Portuguese out of Malaysia. In 1670, the Dutch renovated the gate which explained the Logo “ANNO 1670” carved on the gates of the fortress. However, again, it changed hands in late 18th century when Dutch handed the fortress and control to British. This was because it was to prevent from the expansion of the France Napoleon. British had their doubts and were wary on maintaining the fortress and ordered it to be destructed in 1806. It was almost all the way demolished but with the intervention of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore, who was sent on sick leave from Penang to Malacca in 1807. In the end, Captain William Farquhar, who was tasked to demolish the city, ended up saving the two gateways of the fort including the Santiago Gate and the Stadthuys, church and prison.

Nowadays, it has become tourist attraction and a water themepark was also built there with the name, Afamosa Water Themepark. Even until now, the rate of tourist increases all the time. Also, a Freeport Shopping Centre also was built there, to attract more tourist.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Famosa

http://www.malacca.ws/attractions/a-famosa-melaka.htm

Have anyone ever heard about Hang Tuah's Well? I bet everyone know about history of Hang Tuah but not everyone know about Hang Tuah's Well. This well is located in the town of his birthplace, Kampung Duyung.According to folklore, the great man himself had dug the well for his own personal use. It is not a normal well without any specialty. Besides, after he had passed away, it is said that the well has become the dwelling of his spirit, which took on the form of a white crocodile.

It is actually not because of the folklore story, but the water itself. It is very clean and clear. The water remains clear until now, and people said the water never dry up, even though after long periods of drought. People believe that the water contains a cure to all sorts if ailments. It was also said that the well use to be much smaller in size originally. Interesting isn’t? How can a clear and clean water can help the locals to cure their disease. It is not only a normal and ordinary Hang Tuah’s well. Besides, it is also believed that the albino crocodile cannot be seen by just anyone but only the pure-hearted can have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of it. It is not only a normal white crocodile. This white crocodile brought a lot of mysterious story about Hang Tuah death.

I’ve been there before, and I agree with the locals about the water itself. I took an empty bottle and fill the water. The water is really clean and still fresh and the locals said that the water remain the same after all these years. It is impossible to believe as we keep on thinking that all these kind of story is actually only a mythology, but probably we can believe some of the stories.

Be it a legend or a fantasy, Hang Tuah has turned out to be especially connected with Melaka and a portion of his 'heritages' are said to be in presence today. A few local people trust that the well contains Hang Tuah's soul as a white crocodile, which must be seen by the profoundly unadulterated.Last but not least, try to appreciate all of the historical places in Malaysia because we won’t let this kind of stories will be forgotten in the future.

http://asmaliana.com/blog/2007/10/05/hang-tuah-well/
http://www.tourmalaysia.com/malaysia-tourism/melaka-tourist-sights-hang-tuahs-well-perigi-hang-tuah/

Hey, there! So today, I would like to tell a story about one of the historical places in Malaysia which is The Old Courthouse, Kuching.

The Old Courthouse, Kuching is situated near the Kuching Waterfront in Sarawak. It was built after Charles Brooke was proclaimed as the Rajah of Sarawak in the late 1800’s. The purpose of building it was because of Charles Brooke’s intention in looking for a better venue for the administrative center of the government of Sarawak. At the time of the construction, the building was intended to serve as a government office and venue for state ceremonies. The Old Courthouse was built of ironwood and embellished with Sarawak motif.

Originally, the site of The Old Courthouse belonged to a missionary house (Timothy Tye, 2004). However, the structure was torn down in 1858. Apart of the missionary house, there were two other buildings that were demolished to make way for The Old Courthouse. A few historical event had occur at the Court House which were the ceded of Sarawak to Britain as a crown colony by Sir James Brooke, the third White Rajah and the sworn of Sarawak’s first chief minister, Sir Stephen Kalong Ningkan.

A clock tower was added to the building later after it was built and in 1924, a memorial for Charles Brooke was constructed at the building entrance square. In 2003, the building was converted into the Sarawak Tourism Complex owing to its heritage value. It is now houses a cafe and bar, museum and several venues for art and performance. There is usually interesting events happening, but if not, we can just wander around and take photos at the peaceful verandah.

Reference:
https://www.timothytye.com/malaysia/sarawak/kuching/the-old-courthouse.htm
https://www.lonelyplanet.com/malaysia/kuching/attractions/old-court-house-complex/a/poi-sig/1211530/356979
https://0fb2f703b28dce4e5dd0-f04566af1523fa82836f4f08c4767835.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/colonial_buildings_kuching-2.jpg

Pasir Salak Historical Complex

Well hello there! It’s been a long time since I write a blog. So today i would like to share a little bit about a historical place that have caught my attention which is Pasir Salak Historical Complex. Basically Pasir Salak is one of the most historical place in Perak and it is a good decision that the government organised this place so people can explore the history that happened in Perak. It was officially opened on May 26, 1990.

The most popular history in Pasir Salak is it is the place that J.W.W Birch was speared to death by followers of local Malay chief Dato Maharaja Lela Pandak Lam Maulud while the first British Resident of Perak was taking a bath on his boat moored on the Sungai Perak riverbank. This complex is located besides the Perak River and people could see the site where Birch was killed.

Other than that, this historical complex contents other history of Perak. One of it is The Warrior Monument. It was erected in 1990 as a symbol of bravery, courage and pride of the Malay warriors who fought against the British forces in the 1875 rebellion. This monument was officially opened by the Raja Muda of Perak on 26 May 1990. The monument was sculptured in the form of a "sundang", a Malay sword widely used in the war between the Malays and the British in 1875 at Pasir Salak. The Sundang is originated from the islands of Sulawesi Indonesia and brought to the Malay Peninsula in the 17th.Century. The blade of these weapons are similar to the keris (double sided blade). The Sundang is mainly used for cutting and not stabbing as the keris. The Sundang is used in the Royal Ceremonies and named as: Cutam, Si Raja Wali, Sundang and Sada Maikah. It is carried by four personal named 'Kundang' on their right shoulders and was a much feared weapon in the war with the British forces.

There are lot more other history that they show in this historical complex. It is a good place to let people commemorate the importance of the bloody events of Pasir Salak which is regarded as starting basis for the country’s system of parliamentary democracy in Malaysia.

retrieved from: https://www.thestar.com.my/metro/focus/2017/11/13/more-than-just-about-birch-and-maharaja-lela-kampung-gajah-a-mustsee-for-tourists-as-it-is-steeped-i/#9AAbKx333bLezwY7.99

retrieved from: http://muzium.perak.gov.my/index.php/en/museums/pasir-salak-historical-complex

From then, Merdeka Square has been the venue for the annual Merdeka Parade. The flagpole which holds the flag of Malaysia is the highest in the world. Merdeka Square is a historical site where Malaya declared its independence. If you are a fan of the Malayan history, you can come here and take some pictures. The field in front of Merdeka Square was officially named as Dataran Merdeka on 1st January in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 1990. There are many attractions nearby the Merdeka Square. For shoppers, you can come over to Central Market Kuala Lumpur to buy some local souvenirs and food. The Central Market is made up of a few floors which are occupied by many stalls. The most convenient way to get to the Merdeka Square via public transport is by getting on any of the three train lines that runs through the Masjid Jamek station. Walk towards Jamek Mosque from the station and proceed to the corner and towards the Merdeka Square.

http://www.visitkl.gov.my/visitklv2/index.php?r=column/cthree&id=55&place_id=979

These days many historical things and places have been left for us to discover and learn from the past about many things that can improve our lifestyle. We also have to learn and know those histories so we will not repeat it. There are many historical places that people love to visit and it became a tourist attraction. One of them is Kota Johor Lama which I will share interesting facts about it.

The Johor Lama is well-known for its historical impact which reflects the event of the Malay Sultanate of Johor to the Sultanate of the Malay Sultanate of Johor. Kota Johor Lama is located at the left-side shore of the Johor River, about 27 km from Bandar Kota Tinggi or roughly 30 km by land via Desaru to Teluk Langat. The fort is situated in a rubber estate area on the shores of the Johor River.

The history of Kota Johor Lama began in 1540, when Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II (the second King of Johor 1528-1564) moved to Tanjung Batu which was just beside the Johor River. He then built a “kota” (fort) from fortified rocks. With the construction of the fort, the kingdom of Johor became a powerful one, able to fend off attacks from the Achenese several times.

In the Johor Lama, there’s a village called Panchor which leave a historical remarks on that place. It was here that the sovereignity of Johor passed over to foreign hands. Panchor also became a temporary resting place for the invading achehnese forces and the Portuguese also did erect a godown at this place. Now, Panchor is a small fishing village possessing some historical remains such as the Achenese anchor-stone at the beach.

http://www.jmm.gov.my/en/museum/kota-johor-lama-museum

http://tourism.johor.my/tours/kampung-johor-lama/

Legend has it that she was accused of adultery and executed by stabbing. It is then that white blood flowed from her to prove her innocence before her death.

The best known legend of Langkawi is of Mahsuri, a pretty maiden who lived in Langkawi between 1762 and 1800. Mahsuri was the daughter of Pandak Mayah and Cik Alang who grew up to be a beautiful young woman of marrying age. Mahsuri was then betrothed to Wan Darus which is the younger brother of the village headman Dato Pekerma Jaya.

When Wan Darus left to fight against the invading Siamese army their idylic life was disrupted. In the meantime, Mahsuri has befriended a young wandering minstrel named Deraman. The village chief’s wife Wan Mahora, who was always jealous of Mahsuri’s beauty, accused Mahsuri of adultery in the absence of Wan Darus.

Mahsuri was tied to a tree in the scorching sun for days while awaiting her punishment. She pleaded her innocence, but no one believed her. She was finally sentenced to death, but none of their daggers or swords could kill her. Resigned to her fate, Mahsuri told them to kill her with her father’s ceremonial keris. When she was stabbed, white blood flowed from the wound, signifying her innocence.

With her dying breath, Mahsuri cursed Langkawi with seven generations of bad luck. Langkawi then experienced a period of tribulations – from the Siamese invasion to a series of droughts and floods, prompting the populace to believe in the Mahsuri curse.

Nowadays Mahsuri’s Tomb has become one of the most popular destination for tourist in Langkawi.

Reference

Retrieve from https://naturallylangkawi.my/about-langkawi/myth-and-legends/

SEC1705-0483

HISTORICAL PLACE: KELLIE’S CASTLE

Historical places around the world offer a firsthand look at work history. There are unstoppable list list of national landmarks that are worth seeing and will educate, entertain, and enlighten us especially as students. One of them is Kellie Castle an uncompleted masterpiece, which was used to be considered as a huge mansion during the time it was built. It was a symbol of richness, a sign of power, a home to an European family and, of course, joy of a father to his son, and love of a husband to his wife.

The mansion was built by William Kellie Smith, a Scottish who found his fortune through his investment in rubber plantation and tin mining in Malaya. It was late 1890s. He was in fact doing the right thing, on the right time, at the right place. His fortune grew like a rolling snowball. He went back to Scotland to marry Agnes, and had been blessed with a son and a daughter. He started the construction of Kellie's Castle in 1915. Dubbed by London Financier Newspaper 1911 as the most unique building in far east, the mansion was destined to be an uncompleted masterpiece, followed by the death of his master at the age of 56 from pneumonia while he was on his way to Lisbon to pick up his elevator. His grief stricken wife, Agnes, sold the castle to Harrisons and Crosfield and the castle was left abandoned before being made into a tourist attraction years later.

Originally, the castle would have boasted a 6-storey tower, an indoor tennis court, an entertainment area on the rooftop, a wine cellar, plus what would have been Malaya’s (later Malaysia) first elevator. It was designed in a Moorish and Indo-Saracenic Revival style with top quality craftsmanship in mind. To realise his dream home, Smith brought in 70 workers and imported bricks and marbles from India as well as exquisite tiles from Italy.

The uncompleted mansion designed with 14 rooms, a four-storey tower, flat roof top that overlooking the beautiful surrounding, and a lift shaft, which is believed to be the first elevator designed in Malaya. However, the building never reach its completion, and the elevator, left uninstalled.

Today, the mansion in Batu Gajah again brought us back to the British Colonial Era, where the European plantation owners gathered for afternoon tea, or sat around the dining table for beer and laughs.

REFERENCE

Kellie Castle, an uncompleted masterpiece [Web log post].

Masjid Kampung Laut, located at Nilam Puri, Kota Bharu Kelantan, is unique in its own way, why? Because this mosque is the oldest mosque in Malaysia. It also shows that Islam in this country was spread from the east side, and not from the west side. This mosque somehow amazed me because of its unique history, and the art craft, and the meaningful flood tragedy that changed the structure of the mosque, that gave a great impact toward us.

First of all, the history. Masjid Kampung Laut built in 18th century by the Islam scholars, with the help from the local residents. Before the current location of the mosque, which is Nilam Puri, Masjid Kampung Laut was located at Kampung Laut, Tumpat. That’s why it is called Masjid Kampung Laut, due to its first location.

Why does this mosque change place? It is possible? This happened because until 1966, this unique mosque was used as the main place for worshipping among Muslims at Kampung Laut. Until 1967, where the great flood engulfed in Kelantan. Because of the flood, the mosque floated and the latest location of the mosque, during that time, was in the middle of Sungai Kelantan. The mosque was in a very bad condition, due to flood. State Government, with the help from History Committee of Kelantan, have decided to demolish the old Masjid Kampung Laut, and recreated the mosque at Nilam Puri, with the exact image of the mosque, and with the same product used with the old mosque.

Moving to the art craft, the craft that bring to the uniqueness of this mosque is the fact that this mosque was built without a single tack or nail, instead, they used woods and bamboos as support. This mosque has been there for around 300 years. So, it shows that this mosque was really strong back in the days, until the day that flooded occurred at Kelantan. The art crafts of this mosque is also similar to Masjid Agung Demak in Indonesia.

As a conclusion, I would say that this mosque is a precious treasure to Malaysian, especially Kelantanese. It shows that Islam has been here for a very long time, and to prove it, Masjid Kampung Laut has become a meaningful signature to Islam and Muslim in Malaysia, and it is our responsibility to make sure that this mosque will not be extinct and easily forgotten.

Inilah Masjid Tertua di Negara Kita : Masjid Kampung Laut Nilam Puri Kelantan.
Atkinson Clock Towe

The sight of an historical places reminds us of our past glory. There are many significant places that people visit especially on their holiday. Some people might be looking for a place as they just want to release their mind from something that burden them. Some people also looking for a place that they can make memories with and more interesting, there are people who are looking for a place that leave memories. For everyone who are looking for a historical place to visit, there is a place in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia which is Atkinson Clock Tower. You might be thinking why we should go there instead of going to place that have a lot of fun and many things to do. But clock reminds us of time and we all know that time is golden. Time is very precious in our life.

Before I start talking nonsense, lets know further about Atkinson Clock Tower. The clock tower was built in the memory of Francis George Atkinson, Jesselton’s first district officer who died of Malaria or ‘Borneo Fever’ at the age of 28 in December 1902. His mother Mrs Mary Edith Atkinson presented a two-faced clock to Jesselton town as a tribute to the memory of her son and it was decided later that a clock tower would be built in his honour. The structure was commissioned on 20 April 1905. A road was also named after him – Atkinson Drive, now renamed as Jalan Istana that links Tuaran Road over the ridge and downtown Kota Kinabalu.

The clock tower was originally built using Mirabau wood. Its construction was financed by Atkinson’s friends and most probably built with additional funds channelled from shipwright of visiting naval vessels (the internal carpentry of the clock tower has all the hallmarks of a ship’s carpenter). While still under construction the clock started working on 19 April 1905 and its chimes could be heard all over the town. The structure was finally completed in 1905. The clock was made by William Potts and Sons in Leeds, England. The company was established in 1883 and became the part of Smith of Derby Group in 1933. The UK office is now at 112 Alfreton Road, Derby.

It is hard to imagine how this relatively small but historical clock tower, standing on its own on this hill could ever be any ship’s point of reference; after 105 years, the narrow strip of land in front of the tower has been extensively reclaimed, with tall commercial buildings blocking the views of the clock tower to the sea. But one has only to look at early photos of Jesselton township from its formation in the 1900s to present day to see how vital the clock tower was as a reference point – and still is – as a marker for the growth of this quaint former British Colony township known as 'Jesselton' into 'Kota Kinabalu' - the bustling modern Malaysian city that it is now.

That is interesting, right? Let’s appreciate all we have back then and now. They are here to remind us something.

Retrieve from

Atkinson Clock Tower. (n.d.). I myself also have been to the Bujang Valley and it was mesmerizing to see how peaceful it was there. Other than the surrounding, the monuments there represent some of Malaysia’s oldest monuments. Not to be forgotten, the temple foundations there are very well-preserved. Some of them are about 2000 years old and you can see other younger temples as well.

The temples were once located directly to the sea but due to the climate change that eventually changes the location. Today, it can be found that the sea is several km’s further west. There are more than 50 temples that have been found in Bujang Valley but the ones that has attract me the most are the 4 temples at Merbok. How well the temples have been preserved is just unbelievable even though most of the temples is only foundations.

Findings in the area are now presented as the temple site. It was about 2000 years ago where it all started. These findings belong to a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom. The kings had taken the Indian culture and religion of the time. This shows that this can be the start between the early religion in Tanah Melayu and Hinduism. Candi can be found in other places as well such as Candi Pengkalan Bujang, Candi Bendang Dalam and also Candi Pendiat.

To prove how huge the site is, they need to include diplomats from India, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Bangladesh, Japan, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei, Papua New Guinea, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. We as a Malaysian ourself, need to realize that there are such places which we need to preserve the history in our nation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bujang_Valley
http://www.penangheritagecity.com/bujang-valley.html

The legacy of the Dutch is still very much alive and felt in Malacca in a form of a red building called the Stadthuys. It used to be the administrative center of successive governments but now it is a history museum. The Stadthuys can be easily found as it is just beside the Christ Church. Opposite the Stadthuys is the famous Jonker Street visited by many tourists. The Stadthuys is one of the main attraction in Melaka that must be visit and not be forgotten about. The building used to be painted in white colour until they change it to red in 1911.

he renovated main building houses the Museum of History & Ethnography which showcases Malaccan customs and traditions as well as the city’s rich history, from the great Malay Sultanate to the Portuguese, Dutch and British occupations. Meanwhile, just behind the Stadthuys is the Museum of Literature where historical accounts and local legends are detailed in maps, prints and photographs. One admission ticket allows visitors entrance to both exhibits.

Beside the Stadthuys is also another fine example of the Dutch architecture which is the Christ Church that was built in 1753. Attractions nearby are aplenty. There is a Malacca River Cruise just nearby if you wish to see more of this famous area. There are also museums in the area such as the Cheng Ho Culture Museum and the Malaysian Youth Museum (Muzium Belia Melaka). Another attraction nearby is Queen Victoria’s Fountain which was built on 1901
https://www.maisinggah.com/bangunan-bersejarah-di-malaysia/
http://malacca.attractionsinmalaysia.com/The-Stadthuys.php
http://www.malacca.ws/attractions/stadthuys.htm

If you were on your way to visit Mount Kinabalu, chances are you might end up in the town of Kundasang on the way. But Kundasang is not just another sleepy Sabahan town, for within its hills contains a special place for some, called the Kundasang War Memorial. The Kundasang War Memorial was built in dedication towards the Australian and British POWs who perished during the infamous death marches by the Japanese Army during World War II [1]. It also dedicates the native Sabahans who has died in trying to help the victims [2]. In the series of incidents, the POWs were forced to walk from Kundasang to Ranau under harsh conditions, causing almost all of them to either killed when they collapsed or left to die. Even today, the path they took remains publicly accessible near the memorial.

At the entrance, you will be greeted by a giant gate and flags of the countries involved (excluding the Axis’, of course). It contains several scenic gardens connected by walkways, each symbolizing the nationalities of the troops who has perished there during World War II. With the towering trees, exotic flowers and lush greenery, if you had entered the gardens you could have felt that you have been in another country entirely. Surrounding it are the mountains and hills of the Crocker Range that can be seen from the gaps and balconies of the gardens, which makes it a very picturesque place. In fact, on a lucky day you might be able to see Mount Kinabalu in the distance [3].

The memorial also includes a gift shop and signposts telling the stories of the victims, with the identities, stories and dedications of the POWs publicly displayed around the gardens. The topmost floor is called the Memorial Garden, which includes a fountain and a view of the rolling hills of Kundasang. Every year, the British and Australian veterans and former POWs would visit this area with their families to give their respects and to remember their comrades who had died here [4]. Due to bleak conditions during the war, Kundasang is not the only place with a war memorial, so if you have some free time, make sure to give one a visit to learn the history of the people there.

[1] https://www.sabahtourism.com/destination/kundasang-war-memorial/

[2] http://ctliyana86.blogspot.com/2017/10/kundasang-war-memorial-park-sabah.html

[3] https://sashaeverland.wordpress.com/2013/09/06/sabah-day-2-24813-melawat-kinabalu-park-mandi-manda-di-poring-hotspring-ranau-melawat-lembu-di-dairy-farm-dan-menginap-di-cottage-hotel-kundasang/

[4] https://salamisimon1.blogspot.com/2016/06/kundasang-war-memorial-tugu-peringatan.html

Malaysia is a country in South East Asia (near Indonesia) whose strategic sea-lane position brought trade and foreign influences that fundamentally influenced its history. Hindu India, the Islamic Middle East and Christian Europe to its west, and China and Japan with one of successive phases of outside influence, followed by the mid-twentieth century establishment of independence from foreign colonial powers. Hindu and Buddhist cultures imported from India dominated early Malaysian history. They reached their peak in the Sumatran-based Srivijaya civilization, whose influence extended through Sumatra, Java, the Malay Peninsula and much of Borneo from the 7th to the 14th centuries.

Malaysia is a country that full and rich with history. One of the underrated history building is The Dutch Fort or in Bahasa Malaysia ‘Kota Belanda’. Dutch Fort located in Pulau Pangkor, Perak and this building was built in 1670 by Erenigde Oostindische Compagnie ( Syarikat Hindia Timur Bersatu ). This building was intended to keep all the Tin ( Biji Timah ) that they got from the state. However, in 1960, the villagers have the unsatisfied feelings towards the Dutch on the way how the Dutch stole and got the Tin. Since the Malay did not feel satisfied with the Dutch way, they called and gather everyone in the village and together they destroy the building After the building destroyed, the Dutch re-build the fort and put around 80 guards to protect the building. After 1779, the Dutch left the building and focus on spices in Maluku, Indonesia. Besides, the Dutch is fighting with Napoleon in Europe and that is the reason why the Dutch Fort is an abandoned building.

Now the Fort is for tourist and a place to visit when people come to Perak to spend their time. The Dutch Fort is a building to explore and take many photos to keep many memories. The fort is set a short distance from the ocean and consists of three brick walls with round windows at regular intervals. A small park and some souvenir stores have been set up around the area for visitors and is a popular tourist sight on the island today and the entrance is free.

Read more:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4b/Dutch_Fort_Pulau_Pangkor_2007_007_pano.jpg/800px-Dutch_Fort_Pulau_Pangkor_2007_007_pano.jpg

http://www.arkib.gov.my/web/guest/kota-belanda-pulau-pangkor

http://kucingtanah.blogspot.com/2013/09/kota-belanda-pulau-pangkor.html

https://www.tripadvisor.com.my/Attraction_Review-g303994-d5489687-Reviews-Dutch_Fort_Kota_Belanda-Pulau_Pangkor_Manjung_District_Perak.html

Photo retrieved from:

https://www.thehistoryhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Inside-View-of-Kota-Belanda.jpg

SEC1705-0496

Bohey Dulang, Semporna, Sabah

Bohey Dulang, Semporna which located in the state of Sabah has become a world class tourist attraction these days because of its untouched nature even though some are not familiar with it. People could enjoy the breathtaking view from on top of the Bohey Dulang island. Back then, Bohey Dulang was not a sought-after tourist attraction amongst tourists and even Malaysians. However, in 1963, Bohey Dulang was leased to Kaya Pearl Company to establish the first initial center in Malaysia. This Island was greatly protected by armed personnel and strangers were forbidden to enter the Island. This is where it gets its nickname, Pearl Island or Treasure Island. 30 years later, in 1993, the pearl farm was closed. In 2004, with seven other islands, Bohey Dulang is gazetted as ‘Tun Sakaran Marine Park’ (TSMP) by the government of Sabah and as a national park, it gains more publicity by words of mouth.

Here goes the history of the place: The name Bohey Dulang came from the word “Bohi” (Bohey) which means water and “Dulang” which means pools or depressions in Bajau language, one of the ethnics in Sabah. According to legend, there was once lived a stunning princess in the name of Salamia, from Bum-Bum Island. In order to avoid a forced marriage by a notorious King from the Southern Philippines, her family hid her on Bohey Dulang. A few days later, she disappeared and believed to be hidden by the spirits of Bohey Dulang and turned into a fairy. Even now, locals still say that they can hear Princess Salamia singing and her dog barking during the night, especially on full moon. Sometimes, her spirit can also be seen wandering around the island.

I went visit to Bohey Dulang island once, and it was indeed an incredible experience for a lifetime. I went to The Bohey Dulang as a day tour with snorkelling at nearby island. It was pretty crowded and touristy but the scenery from the overlook was amazing. No fees needed, all you need to do for the view is you need to be concentrate during the climb, because it is not exactly easy and tiring for 600 meter climb. At present, this beautiful Island welcomes hundreds of tourists daily from people around the globe.

Retrieved from:
https://www.borneoholidays.com.my/en/bohey-dulang/

Photo retrieved from:
https://www.arunghayat-scuba.com/MY/package/daytrip-package/
