This quote reflect that complex nature of human relationships. Morrie is emphasizing that when he is surrounded by loved ones and friends, he feels uplifted and energized, which shows relationships are a key factor to his own well-being. On the flip side Morrie acknowledges that there are days where he feels depressed and experiences dread, which is saying that it is normal to feel a range of emotions even when you have support. This is where joy of being surrounded by loved ones and sorrow are coexisting with each other.
