Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But Jesus said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?”

And Jesus said to the crowd, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”

Then Jesus told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”

Lectio Divina How To

7:55-8:01AM – let students arrive. Welcome those that come (keep the mood contemplative).

8:01-8:02 – briefly describe Scripture & Sunrise (if there are new people), direct people to the padlet for the place to read the scripture.

The Lectio Divina practice can be described like this: We are doing a scripture meditation this morning. It’s a practice that invites God to speak to us through His word called Lectio Divina (which literally just means “Divine Reading”). We’ll be slowly reading a short section of scripture from the gospels (or the Psalm) 3 times. After each reading, there is a 1-2 minute pause. During the first reading, listen for one word or phrase that sticks out to you. Spend the pause reflecting on that word/phrase, write it down somewhere and say it over a few times. During the second reading, see if another word/phrase sticks out, or if the same one comes back. During the second pause, reflect again on what stood out for you and contemplate it. We will read a third time. In the third pause, return to one of the words/phrases that stood out, ask the Spirit to speak to you specifically why He is drawing you to that word or phrase for this day.

After the 3rd pause I will invite you to share on the padlet. Either just put what word/phrase was standing out, and if you have any insight into why or what you meditated on, feel free to write that as well. Then whoever can stay will break into a zoom room to quickly share with each other about what they would like prayer for for the day ahead. One person will offer up a closing prayer on behalf of the group, but remember to be praying for your zoom room friends throughout the day. The whole process will take about 20 minutes.

8:03 – Share the padlet again if anyone came in late. Offer a short prayer for the Spirit to speak to us through the word, read passage first time. Leave a pause.

8:07 – Read passage a second time. Leave a pause.

8:11 – Read passage a third time. Leave a pause.

8:15 – Close time with short prayer thanking God for His word. Invite people to stay on to write in padlet. Say you will send into zoom rooms in 1 minute and they can leave whenever they want/need to.

8:16 – Open up zoom rooms, make them groups of 3 (or 2-4 as you see fit/depending on numbers).
