      <title>Math: How do we identify numbers 0-5? by Sydney Gerace</title>

      <description>Our activity was to recognize, identify, and write the numbers 0-5. I had students at my table where I would draw circles, and they would identify and write the number I had drawn. We then switched, I wrote the number and they created circles to represent the number I had written. We also watched a subitizing video in our whole group lesson that students then held up the number on their fingers and chorally responded with the amount represented. The content goal for this lesson is subitizing; students will quantify briefly shown collections and verbally label the arrangements without counting. The content goal for the lesson was to have students identify and write the numbers being represented. My language goal for the lesson was to have students chorally respond during the subitizing video, write the numbers during our number writing practice, and draw circles during our number identification activity. </description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Overall, I thought this lesson went really well and showed me some areas for growth with all of my students, outside of just my English Learners. A reflection I made was that I will need to continue to practice how students hold up the numbers when we are watching one of the subitizing videos. I had several students hold it up away from their bodies, so in order to create authentic assessment, I will reteach this expectation to incorporate more engagement. It was helpful to see student's abilities for writing numbers correctly as well as reading to identify the number I had written to then draw their circles to match the number that was written. I incorporated choral responding during whole group as well throughout the video both orally shouting out the number and by having students hold up their numbers close to their body. The video includes a signal which helped students recognize when to respond. Subitizing is a great way to incorporate quick math fact practice using reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Overall I think students were extremely engaged and excited to participate in the lesson. </p>]]></description>
