How I typically teach...

Being ready for online & blended learning...

"Not ready"
partly sums it up!

In the areas of: Technology Skills, Learning Communities, Adaptability, & Relationships, I have had more exposure due to currently advising students remotely.
The internet was still new and not something used in the classroom when I began teaching, so the implementation of resources such as: manipulatives, tricks, and additional books were used, in addition to teaching to the students' learning style and working at the students' pace.
As the years have gone on, still working F2F with students, I have continued to utilize the same resources, new ones I have discovered, yet have reached out to search engines to gather more information.

I found this on Luna. Even going back to 2nd grade, I had wanted to go into education, to work with students, to see that excitement when they "GOT IT!" To see my tutoring students grow so much, in so many ways, over the years and apply what we had worked on a year or two before, I knew I had done something right.

What excites me about online and blended learning...

When I was in school, I would occasionally read ahead, so I was prepared for the next class, a behavior I encouraged in students I have worked with.
-With students being able to go online ahead of time, watch a premade video at their own pace, multiple times, if needed, go to some other provided links for more information, then meet for the next class, these students are prepared for the lesson, can come with questions, and actively work in class.
-One of the hardest parts of preparing a lesson is that it is geared toward the bulk of the class, with advanced learners that can be bored and slower learners that are lost, falling behind.
-Also, there are so many more tools to utilize when using online/blended learning, this can open up so many more opportunities. You're not limited to just what you can get your hands on, you can utilize items you can click on to bring to the classroom!

What scares me about online and blended learning...

I have been teaching off and on for over 20 years, and F2F interaction is so important.
-My biggest concern is losing that connection of the F2F for classes that are going all online/remote.

-After reading the article by Dunlap & Lowenthal, I still have these concerns, yet I know there are so many ways to make sure the students can succeed and, for example this course, that we, as educators, prepare in advance.

-My experience with BB has been limited to assistance with advising, by using it myself in this class, I can better direct my students how to use it.
-I have very little exposure to online tools, such as Padlet. Zoom was also brand new to me. These are things that concern me, as I need to learn how to utilize these items to give the students the best opportunities possible.
-Students have cancelled appts due to Zoom/internet not working, how will this affect their learning in an online/blended course?

Since this is my first time teaching in higher ed, I want to make sure I am fully prepared...which won't happen overnight!

-I chose to use Padlet for this assignment, any of the tools listed could have been used, yet are there certain tools that are more efficient for certain types of classes/assignments? Or is it a preference of the instructor?

-I like the flipped model, students already being exposed to the material. Is there any type of "success" rate with this method, better retention of material, for example, higher confidence?
