This is the second stage of Erikson's timeline, and the children at this stage are focused on developing a greater sense of self-control.
When I was in this stage, sometimes my mom would let me pick out what I wanted to eat, and it would be something that I just had to have, but didn’t really make sense. I would try the nasty combinations that I just insisted on having, and that helped me learn to pick out some of the more tasty options.

Stage 3: Initiative vs. Guilt

This is the third stage in Erikson's timeline. During the initiative versus guilt stage, children begin to assert their power and control over the world through directing play and other social interaction. When I was in the stage, I was jumping between beds with my brother on vacation, which our parents had told us not to do multiple times. After a few hops between beds, I ended up slipping off one of the beds and my arm was laying right on top of the mattress. My brother, who was double my size and age at the time, landed right on my arm and snapped it. I think I had a hard time playing with other kids for a while after this because I felt like if I didn’t listen to my parents, I would get hurt again. This is right in the third stage Initiative vs. Guilt.

This is the fourth stage in Erikson's timeline, and it is the stage where children start to feel pride in their work! When I was 11, my parents had me start doing more chores around the house. I will never forget the feeling of pride the first time I cut the grass. I remember looking over the yard admiring my stripes when I was done. This really helped instill pride and hard work for me!

This is the fifth stage in Erikson's timeline, and it when children begin to develop a sense of self and independence. Growing up I had a lot of friends, and some of them were being bullied. I actually learned a lot from this as it taught me empathy and not to treat others that way.

This is the sixth stage, and one of the most important to me. In this stage a person focuses on building loving relationships with others. I am in this stage right now, and I think I am doing a pretty good job. My wife and I have an amazing marriage that we have built on love and trust, and two amazing children (almost) that we shower with love every chance we get. I am going to keep up on this, as there literally is nothing better than life. My family completes me.

This is the seventh stage in the Erikson timeline, and in this stage a person is really trying to figure out their place in the world, and what that person can do to leave their mark. I think when I am in this stage I would like to spend as much time with my children as I can, as well as get into some charity work. I would love to be able to give back before its my time to go.
