If I could choose one person to take with me on this journey, I would definitely take Sacagawea. Sacagawea was born in 1788 which made her 16 or 17 when she went on the journey. She met Lewis and Clark while she was living with Mandan and Hidatsa in North Dakota. She was taken when she was 11 or 12 by the Hidatsa tribe and lived at the Awakitxa Village. When she went with Lewis and Clark she was very helpful to the group which is why I would want to take her with me. She helped give directions since she knew the land very well, she helped find food since she had to get her own food, and she also proved that the Americans were peaceful. That is just a few reasons why I would take Sacagawea.

Another member that I would take on the journey with me is Seaman the dog. Seaman the dog was a Newfoundland who was brought along with Lewis and Clark to help with tasks. Seaman would be a good member to take with you because that breed generally is a very good dog. They can be easily trained , and can learn well. They have strong noses and memory, and also thick fur to keep them warm during the winter. Seaman had some very good skills that helped the group out because he helped sniff out food, he helped hunt. He helped keeping everyone warm, he helped attack predators, and much more.

Oregon Grape, Berberis aquifolium

On February 12, 1806, Lewis record in his journal that he discovered a patch of berries that is now called Berberis Aquifolium. He had noticed these berries in the cascades of the Columbia River. He described the berries like this: “The roots are creeping to the surface of the ground, The stem is 18 inches high and as large as a goose” and much more. I think that Lewis must had been curious about the plant because of it's weird size and shape.

Western rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis)

The Western rattlesnake was founded by Lewis and Clark on the Fourth of July, 1804, near Kansas City. Private Joseph Field was bitten by this rattlesnake on the ankle. Luckily, he survived and just had a sore swollen ankle for a few days.Since rattlesnakes can vary the amount of venom injected into their pray, very little venom was injected into Fields ankle which saved his life. I think that Lewis and Clark and everyone would have been very shocked to find this dangerous snake, and they must have been afraid that Field was going to get poinsend. The Western rattlesnake is a grey brown and white snake that can easily blend into its surroundings, which is why the group did not see it coming.

The Oto Indians were part of the

Southern Sioux tribes who lived along the Missouri River near the present-day border of Missouri and Nebraska. The Otos hunted buffalo and they were farmers. They lived in houses that resembled oven shape, and it was covered in things like dirt sticks and more. Smallpox had wiped out most of then so the population was around 250 people. Since they where buffalo hunters, they weren't there when Lewis and Clark passed by, but they met up later on. The Otos were peaceful and offered trade.
